We live in a family-friendly suburban community. Our house is on a large lot, which is a little over one-acre and there is a lot of room for children to play outside. We have a pool with a slide and hot-tub that the kids (and the adults) enjoy throughout the year. We are often outside by the pool cooking out for friends and family. For Halloween, the kids ride on our trailer and we drive throughout the neighborhood while they trick-or-treat. We have a number of younger children that live around us and they are usually outside playing. We are involved in school activities and find that this is often our second home. Many of our friends are members of our church as well.
We love having everyone at our house but also enjoy the convenience of one set of parents down the street where we gather as well. Another set of parents that live a few miles away have ten acres with a creek and a beautiful pond where Allie and John love to fish and feed the horses. We also love our community park that is filled with slides, wet zones, bike trails with wildlife, soccer fields, baseball fields and even an amphitheater which we attend a few times a year for drive-in movie night.
We share close relationships with both sides of our families. Most of our family lives within several minutes from us and the others are still in our state making it possible to see everybody on a regular basis. Everyone in our family is very excited about the adoption and can’t wait to welcome a new baby into the family.
We live just a few houses down from one set of parents which is nice when we have our weekly visits for good food and fun with the family. The ages of the children in our extended family range from newborn to twelve years and more on the way! We love this time together and take advantage of it as much as possible.
Our daughter, Allie, is extremely close to her cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and even great-grandparents. When we’re not having an event with our extended family, Allie loves having her cousins over to play.
When we get together with extended family, we enjoy swimming (if we are at our house), being outside with the kids, exploring down by the creek at her grandparents or watching Allie fish in their pond. One of the annual traditions that we most look forward to is our family’s annual 4th of July party. We cook out, swim, go to the fireworks store together and end the day doing fireworks in our driveway. The kids (and adults) always have a great time.
