We live on the outskirts of a large metropolitan city in the Midwest. Our home is in a quaint neighborhood with a park-like setting. It is heavily wooded, and has a flowing creek that runs along the sidewalks. We regularly see deer and other wildlife in our back yard. Our neighborhood has an annual fall bonfire, a holiday light ‘flip the switch’ party, and luminaries are set up along the sidewalks for Christmas. One of the highlights of our neighborhood is that it is close to everything. Our home is close to the largest public city park in our state. It has lots of playgrounds, woods to explore, and a nature center. It also has a couple of lakes, with a swimming beach and boating activities. We enjoy taking a picnic there and exploring the hiking trails. We are close to our downtown area where we have a wonderful children’s museum, a large zoo, and libraries. There are also lots of green spaces to explore, sporting events to enjoy and great places to dine. We can’t wait to bring our child to our city, home and introduce them to all of our neighbors.
Both of us grew up in very close families and have extremely supportive families. All our grandparents lived close by. We have lots of family/shared meals together, along with celebrations and holiday traditions with our families. Both of our parents have been married 50+ years. Family has played a huge and important part in our lives and will continue to do so with our child. Karey’s parents, two younger sisters and their families live within an hour away. This includes one niece and five nephews, ranging in age from 4-15. We get together regularly and spend almost every summer weekend together at our grandparent’s lake cottage about 2 hours away. Karey’s family has been making memories at our lake cottage for over 60 years. We can’t wait to begin making new ones with our child. Brad’s parents, older brother, and his family live within 30 minutes from us. His brother’s family includes two nieces that are college students. Everyone in both of our families is thrilled that we are pursuing adoption, especially all of our nieces and nephews. They are excited to have another cousin to play and hang out with.
Our extended family includes our close circle of friends. We typically hang out every Thursday evening, sometimes sharing a meal. We enjoy sharing in the lives of our friends as they raise their children, and we can’t wait to add to the chaos of our group get-togethers with a new baby.
