We love spending time with our family and friends. Most of our time spent with them includes playing some type of game, whether it be a board game, card game, or yard game. We love to play corn hole and croquet in our large front yard. Spades and Five Crowns are two family favorites that leave us in stitches. On game nights with friends, we tend to share our favorite games and learn how to play theirs. When our younger cousins visit, Jessica always likes to have a fun activity planned for them. Our most recent experiment involved making green ooze which mesmerized us all. In the summer, we enjoy watching fireworks and eating snow cones on the Fourth of July with Jessica’s cousins. We like to catch up with family we may not see throughout the year on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
We are fortunate enough to have our parents live close by and many of our extended family members live within a few hours of our home. Most family members we can take a day trip to visit, and we plan long weekends throughout the year to visit family in other states. Both of our families are very supportive of our desire to adopt. Adoption is a familiar concept to them. Several of Jessica’s cousins were adopted, and Chris’s father was adopted by his step-father. They are all eager for the day we become parents and are looking forward to showering a child with love and affection.
We live on over 5 acres of land in a rural area of Virginia. There are a lot of woods to explore and places to run on our property. Living in a rural area provides plenty of wildlife to see. We most frequently have visits from rabbits, deer, and turkey but have also seen foxes, turtles, and eagles. We love to spend time in our kitchen together where we make many home-cooked meals and baked goodies for family and friends. The kitchen also tends to be where we catch up on our days, play games, and craft. Our families join us in our home for holiday meals, birthday celebrations, and summer cookouts.
While our home may be rural, we still have many amenities close by, including a large network of libraries with children’s activities, playgrounds, lakes, parks, and museums. A local college holds a Pecan Festival in the fall and a concert series with games and food in the summer. We enjoy seeing the different artisans, listening to music, and tasting local foods. Chris’s company also hosts a variety of family friendly events each year, including a family day at Busch Gardens or King’s Dominion, Easter egg hunt, pumpkin carving contest, and a Christmas party. We are so looking forward to taking our child to these fun events!
