We place a great deal of importance on family, and our families play a crucial role in our daily lives. Most of our immediate family lives close by, and we spend many holidays and weekends visiting with family.
Much of Jacob's extended family live in the immediate area, including his parents, his two younger brothers, aunts and uncles, and 5 cousins, as well as several grandparents. We often go to Jacob's grandparents’ house for large family gatherings to celebrate birthdays and many holidays. Throughout the year we enjoy a wide variety of homemade specialties such as grandma's fried chicken, cornbread, rolls, and various homemade cakes and pies. Jacob's granddad also makes his own amazing ice cream and fudge.
Carie's mom and brother also live close by, and we often get together with them for dinner and other events. Every July 4th, we cookout and enjoy the neighborhood fireworks show at Carie's mom's house. Every Christmas, Jacob's grandma hosts Christmas lunch, and both our families go over to celebrate and exchange gifts. We also get together for Easter and Thanksgiving celebrations.
Both of our families are thrilled about our adoption opportunity, and are committed to help in any way that they can. In particular, both of our mothers are delighted about the prospect of being grandmothers!
We live in a two-bedroom townhouse in North Carolina. Our home is spacious and has a large living room and kitchen that provide a wonderful space for cooking meals, spending time as a family, and hosting events. Our second bedroom is on the same floor as the master and has its own attached bathroom with a bathtub. We feel that this will serve as the perfect setup for a nursery.
Our neighborhood is a tight-knit, quiet community where families take walks and ride bikes, have weekend gatherings around the fire pit, and an annual summer kick-off celebration. There are kids of all ages in our neighborhood that enjoy playing together and riding bikes on our private streets. We have access to a nearby community pool, many great parks, and modern and inviting playgrounds.
We live in central North Carolina, less than a three-hour drive to the beach and the mountains. Our family owns a mountain house that is a great vacation space complete with a pool, tennis courts, and access to a golf course. We love spending weekends at the mountain house enjoying hikes, gorgeous views, and time with family. We cannot wait for the opportunity to introduce and share our home and community with our child.
