While Theresa was born in Germany, we both grew up in Colorado and cannot imagine raising a child anywhere else. When we moved into our house two years ago, it was with the intention of growing our family. Our neighborhood is surrounded by 600 acres of open space and hiking/biking trails where we hope to spend our weekends exploring with a child. There are also two neighborhood parks with playgrounds, soccer fields, and basketball courts, along with a swimming pool to splash in on hot summer days. We are only about an hour away from the closest ski resorts where we can't wait to go tubing, ice skating, and skiing as a family. The zoo, aquarium, and dozens of museums are also only about 25 minutes away.
Our neighborhood has a social committee that hosts a 4th of July bike parade, movie nights in the park, pool parties, pictures with Santa and more. There are events and activities for families all year long. We also picked this neighborhood because it is in one of the most highly ranked school districts in the state, which was incredibly important to us when choosing where to live.
Our home has 4 bedrooms and we've already picked the perfect room for a nursery that is close to our room and gets lots of natural light. We also have a loft that we cannot wait to fill with toys and books for a playroom space just for children. Our favorite room in the house is definitely the kitchen/living room. It is the perfect space for cooking meals together and having family all around.
We are lucky that both of our parents live in the state along with Theresa's brother and his family. We spend every holiday together and have family brunches, dinners and barbecues together at least once a month. When we are all together we love to play games like Rummy or Yahtzee or if we're outside, cornhole. There's also always a plethora of food to go around, both of our moms love cooking and inevitably make enough to feed an entire football team! Since Theresa's family is from Germany they have always celebrated Christmas Eve -- opening gifts, looking at Christmas lights and having fondue for dinner. Then on Christmas morning we head to Eric's parent's house and spend the day playing games, watching movies, and of course eating!
Our entire family is thrilled that we are adopting and they cannot wait to love on another grandchild/niece/nephew/cousin. Our families are loud, full of energy and have so much love to give to a child. We feel blessed that we have an extended family that is incredibly open and accepting and we have no doubt that your child will be welcomed with open arms and open hearts.
