We can only imagine how difficult it must be for you to consider adoption. It cannot be easy to evaluate so many prospective parents, to imagine your child growing up in so many different family scenarios, and to feel secure in your decision. Our hearts go out to you. We can only assure you that if we are lucky enough to be the adoptive parents of your child, we will do everything in our power to raise this child in an environment of tolerance, happiness and peace. We will provide every opportunity for this child to fulfill his or her dreams and aspirations.
We would like to tell you what your child’s life would be like in our family. We own a cozy home in Oregon with fruit trees and a vegetable garden in the backyard. We have a dog and a cat and we generally love animals and being outside, hiking, camping, skiing and biking. Our favorite trip together was bicycling through the trails and remote areas of Scotland. We often play basketball outside with Jenny’s young nephew when we see him. We are very excited about the idea of sharing our love of the natural world and of being active with a child. We believe that this is an empowering foundation for a lifetime of health and well-being, and this will allow our child to feel connected with nature and with our community. There is a large, beautiful forest on the edge of our town that extends to the Pacific Ocean, 50 miles away, and we love to hike and bicycle through the forest. The coastal towns have white sand beaches and many seals, sea lions and other wildlife including large whale migrations.
Our home is in a very family-friendly neighborhood, with many parks and schools within walking distance of our house. There are bicycle paths that children can ride without danger from cars. There are organized sports leagues nearby and a community center offering art and music classes for children of all ages. We have a piano in our house, as well. Jenny and her side of the family have strong musical traditions and often play music when they are together. Jenny was in her college marching band and plays several instruments. We will help our child to find their own best sources of happiness by giving him or her abundant opportunities for exploration in music, sports, arts and community involvement.
Education is also very important to us. We both have advanced degrees, and Jenny is a professor at a large university where she teaches and mentors many students. We understand the tremendous inherent value of education in today’s world. We very strongly feel that education opens doors to everyone, and should be available to everyone. We want this child to have every opportunity to explore new learning opportunities and follow his or her interests. Jenny’s mother and sister are both elementary school teachers and are eager to lend their expertise in developing early reading skills and focusing on age-appropriate development.
We have close family in California and everyone is excited to have a new little one to dote on. Johann’s mom lives just steps from the ocean, and we are excited to have picnics on the beach in the warm summer months. It can get pretty windy too, which makes for perfect kite flying conditions. Jenny’s immediate family all live within a few hours’ drive of each other, and her mom’s kitchen is always open and full of wonderful homemade treats. Jenny’s very large extended family live in the Midwest, and our holiday visits to see them are always loud, boisterous, and absolutely packed full of children and fun.Thank you again for taking the time to read our profile and to get to know us.
