Thank you for giving us this opportunity to tell you about ourselves and why we want to adopt. We are Josh and Josh. Our friends call us the "the Joshes." We are grateful that you are willing to consider an adoption plan for your child. We know words cannot express the love between parents and children.
We recently married after being together for ten years. Our lives have been eventful and fulfilling, and like everyone, we've known both joy and sorrow. We think our life experiences have helped prepare us to be great parents. We are fortunate to have jobs that will allow us to spend time with a child. Josh S. works as a nurse at a hospital within walking distance from our home. He is able to set his own schedule. Josh J. is a federal government lawyer and his office is only a few miles away. We have a very sweet dog, Max, who follows us around the house and loves going for long walks. We're convinced that he is as excited as we are about having a new family member.
We'd like to give you a quick sense of who we are:
Josh S.: My parents provided a warm, loving home. I'm the sixth of eight children and grew up in Las Vegas. We were very tight, and still love to get together whenever possible. During annual family reunions we reminisce about childhood memories, play board games, do outdoor activities, laugh, and eat LOTS of sugar! We keep in touch using a group video message app and with a family blog. I studied organ performance in college and graduate school, but later went into nursing as a second career. I still play the piano and organ at a local church, and can't wait to teach my own child. I lived in the Dominican Republic for two years where I learned to speak Spanish.
Josh J.: I grew up in a suburban town in Rhode Island. I had a wonderful childhood and love to visit with family several times a year, especially my adorable niece. We were a close family and my parents always made sure we ate dinner together - a tradition I will continue with our child. I spent much of my childhood acting in plays and participating in local children's theater. My supportive parents carted me back and forth to every rehearsal and attended every show. I love to cook, especially for friends and family. I went to college in Chicago and later attended law school in the Midwest. I've been in the Washington, DC area ever since.
We are definitely ready for the challenge of having a child. We hope that, if desired, the child will have the opportunity to know and meet you. This includes e-mails or phone calls, and a visit, if that is something you would like. We intend to send you pictures as the child grows. We also plan to tell the child about her or his adoption as soon as possible and believe early and open communication, without any secrets, promotes a healthy atmosphere.
We will do everything we can to meet the child's needs in every way. We are committed to providing loving and unconditional acceptance, and opportunities that promote self-esteem. We will teach him or her the importance of being honest, loving, kind, and respectful of people from all walks of life.
We knew that we would not be able to have biological children, so have always wanted to adopt. We are so lucky to be able to give a child a full, rewarding, and loving upbringing. We have so much room in our hearts for a child, and hope that you will consider us as parents for your child. You would be giving us the greatest gift imaginable and we would be forever grateful.
Josh J. and Josh S.
