Time is something we truly value, so we try to balance our lives to enjoy the leisure time we have. We have many of the same interests, and we enjoy doing things together. We just discovered the joy of gardening. It has been fun to work together to care for the garden and pick our own vegetables. Gardening goes hand in hand with our love of cooking and grilling, as well as our love of the outdoors. When we are not in our backyard, we love exploring hiking trails near our home.
We each have our own interests as well. James enjoys everything hockey! When he’s not watching or going to a Washington Capitals game, he’s playing. He also loves playing golf and often plays with friends and his father. Another interest James has is building. He recently remodeled the house and constructed a new shed to house all of our yard equipment.
Michelle enjoys taking and teaching fitness classes — she finds it very rewarding to help people meet their fitness goals! She teaches two formats, Barre and Zumba, but also enjoys participating in yoga, PiYo, and body sculpt. Michelle is also active in several church activities. She attends a weekly ladies' Bible study and loves to sing in the choir. With summers off, Michelle enjoys volunteering her time with vacation Bible school and mission trips.
Knowing the benefits of early intervention, reading will take place from day one. We will provide an environment that is rich in words, songs and stimulating toys. With every stage of the child’s development, we will allow the child to explore, create, imagine and build. Children are naturally curious about the world around them, and we will expose and guide this child through discoveries of the outdoors, museums, grocery stores, forests, beaches, zoos, theme parks and the list goes on! We will partner with family and the community in educating this child. Our family visits are always full of activities and fellowship around the table. Our nieces and nephews will be so excited to teach this child sports skills and fun games. The church will also play an important role in education. This child will have the opportunity to attend Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and various church activities offered on Wednesday nights. Our local YMCA offers a wide variety of activities too. We are looking forward to seeing what the child’s interests will be, and we will be there to support and nurture these skills. We are very fortunate to live in a community that offers top notch schools, and we will be involved parents in all of his or her activities. College will be something we encourage and plan for.
Our spirit of adventure and exploration is something we are excited to share with a child! We are very fortunate to live in the state of Virginia where there are so many wonderful attractions and seasonal activities which are all within driving distance! We enjoy exploring the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains to include hiking the abundant trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive, as well as apple picking in the fall. Visiting Colonial Williamsburg and Bush Gardens at Christmas time, seeing the cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. in the spring, and spending time on the Chesapeake Bay and playing on the sand in Virginia Beach in the summer are seasonal activities we enjoy.
It will be fun to share our favorite places we have marveled at with a child! The dramatic California coastline, the majesty of Niagara Falls and the beautiful shell covered beaches of Sanibel Island, just to name a few. Finding new, off the beaten path spots are exciting too! We love discovering and taking time to enjoy all the adventures a new place has to offer.
We become like little kids when we visit the zoo and we love seeing animals their natural habitat! The Richmond Zoo is very close to us and the National Zoo in D.C. is only 1.5 hours away. We have also been to some other great zoos near family members to include one near Savannah and the Houston Zoo. Visiting the Yellowstone National Park, going whale watching and taking a cruise to Alaska are on our bucket list. It would be a big dream to go on an African Safari one day too!
