Adoption in Our Lives
Family Paddle Boat Ride

Our most memorable moment is easily the birth of our son, Owen! We drove 8 hours to Missouri for what we thought would be a few hours of meeting with his birth parents about a month before his due date. As soon as we got back to our hotel after we met, we received a message from them that his birth mom went into labor. Six hours later, Owen was born. With no more than one change of clothes and nothing packed for the baby, we became parents for the first time!

With Owen's Birth Family

We knew that every long second that we waited and counted was worth it. Words cannot express the immediate unconditional love that we felt for him nor could we even begin to say thank you to our birth parents for there are no words that can express that gratitude we have.

When we went back to finalize his adoption, we were very blessed with being able to see his birth family while we were there. We also have a Facebook page strictly for them to receive updates and pictures, and our son loves to see pictures of his birth family too. We look forward to showing him this page and all the comments and pictures that his birth family has shared in return. We hope to continue a similar process with our next child's birth family. We want him/her to know about you as much as possible. Above all, we want your child to understand how much love you have for him/her and how very special he/she is to all of us!

Fun Facts About Us:

  • Jeff and Owen's favorite time of the day is wrestling on the bed and playing loud music for dance time. Laura and Owen love to cook together, go for a bike ride and have cuddle monster time.
  • We have 10 nieces and nephews who love to include Owen in everything they do.
  • Our favorite thing to do is spend family time together.
  • Adoption has touched our lives in many ways. We both have close friends who adopted. Also, we each have a very close friend who was adopted.
  • We met at work 10 years ago, and we still work together.
  • We enjoy going to the zoo, arboretum, parks, library, etc. We also like to go camping, reading, and playing outside.
  • Jeff coaches wrestling, and Laura coaches softball.
  • We’re amazed by the countless number of people praying for another baby for us, including Owen every night.
  • We are excited about moving into a bigger house with a big back yard to play in.
  • Owen’s birth parents deciding to place him for adoption is the most selfless act that we’ve ever witnessed, and we’re humbled that we get to do it again.
  • What it Means to Be Parents
    Christmas Morning Smiles

It may sound cliche, but we truly love everything about being a parent. We love being with Owen every moment that we can. We don’t know if it’s just the long wait, but we’ve enjoyed everything from playing with him on the floor to the 2 a.m. feedings. We love cuddle time after he wakes up from naps, going for walks, family dinner time, reading books, and playing chase around the house.

Laura was able to stay home full time with Owen, and we both love being home during the summer. We have taken him various places such as the zoo, arboretum, aquarium, farm, park, library time, etc. It was great seeing him experience all these for the first time, and we love seeing how much more he can do and experience when we take him back.

Our favorite age seems to be wherever he is at currently and changes as he gets older and we watch him do something for the first time. At first, Laura never wanted Owen to get older, but she has accepted it because she knows that she’ll be able to do it all over again with the next child.
