We are so excited about adopting a child and introducing them to everything our family and community has to offer. We both love working with children and have hoped for a child of our own to share our lives with. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering us and reading our profile and we look forward to this upcoming amazing experience for all us.
Kathy: I've always dreamed of being a mother. I look back and see how so many things I did were to prepare myself for giving this to a child. Books or games I kept that I thought my child might like; learning to play a musical instrument, because they might like to learn too; or learning different sports they might like. I feel as though we've been preparing so long – surely it must be our time soon! I coach high school sports and what I like about it best is being able to help children find their own inner confidence – help them achieve things they never thought was possible.
Alex: Being a father will be the most rewarding experience of my life. Teaching a child how to become a kind, decent human being is perhaps the most important task a person can do in this world. As a teacher, I have taught things to thousands of kids over the years and it would be really great to teach my very own child for a change. I also look forward to going on family vacations to places like Disney World and Universal Studio
Kathy: My parents had a lot of hobbies that they would share with my brother and me, but we never felt forced-upon and they let us be who we wanted to be. My parents loved sports and encouraged me to try any or all that I wanted (at various points in my childhood, I did gymnastics, tennis, swimming, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey). I learned to love the outdoors when we'd go hiking as a family and looking for wildlife. My parents also taught me how to play guitar and clarinet. Most of all, whatever we chose to do, they wanted me to love learning – and I hope I can pass that love on to my child.
Alex: I enjoy swimming, hiking, playing board games, and good conversation. I really love music and play the piano, guitar, and sing. It would be really fun to teach my child an instrument or two to play. Imparting them with a love for learning is also something I look forward to. As a middle school teacher I enjoy seeing the expression on kids' faces when they discover something interesting that they didn't know before. My motto as a teacher is "Make learning something new a part of every day."
Alex's mother is American of European heritage, while his father is Mexican. Kathy's family is European. Alex grew up both in Mexico and in the United States and understands what it means to be of two different heritages. Since marrying Alex, Kathy loves having this background incorporated now into her own and we feel we can be supportive and truly understanding parents to a child who is either white or Hispanic or a combination. Alex still speaks Spanish and uses it sometimes as a teacher with students. We recently had our DNA tested to see our heritage which was a wonderful experience – or experiment, as it rather felt like. Kathy is 99.9% European and .1% Mongolian; Alex's heritage is all over the world – Northern and Southern European, Native American, and even some Asian.
