Our Lifestyle
In the Mountains

Our friends consider us very active, outdoor-loving people. We are very hard working, love our careers and love having fun. In the summer, we spend time biking, hiking, running and traveling to visit family. During the winter we cross country ski, snowshoe and fat-tire bike (you can do this on snow and ice!). This past winter Kasey started teaching Christina to downhill ski, we plan to continue working on this over the next few years.

We have less active hobbies as well. Christina enjoys fusing glass and even paints on occasion. She also knits, crafts, reads, and snuggles with her cats. Kasey enjoys spending time in the wood shop building furniture and home decorations. He also plays with the dogs, reads and watches TV. Together we enjoy working on the garden, cooking, playing board games, and hanging out with friends.

Throughout the year, we spend a lot of time traveling. Most of the time we are traveling to visit family either at their homes or a vacation destination. We love traveling to new states and countries, and also enjoy more local traveling, exploring the fascinating state of Maine and surrounding areas in Canada. We are always planning our next great adventure!

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Christina With Our Nephews

Kasey About Christina: Christina is an incredibly loving, caring, compassionate individual with a work ethic that is second to none. Perhaps one of her best qualities is how she is able to make me want to be a better person. She lives her life with purpose and is always willing to help people. There are times when I have to remind her that she does need to take care of herself occasionally. She is always willing to try new things and is ready for the next adventure. Sometimes this means doing an intense mountain bike race (without mountain biking experience), or starting a homeless outreach program at her medical school. She is the embodiment of integrity, compassion, and perseverance. I hope these are all qualities that we will be able to pass to our children.

Christina About Kasey: Kasey is hard working, giving and adventurous. While I was in Medical School/Residency, Kasey was my rock. He worked a good paying, thankless job for 7 years, so I could conquer my dreams. He even did it with a smile on his face. He is now pursuing a career in nursing. His hard work ethic allows him to be a full time student, take care of the house, spend time wood working and still have time for traveling! He constantly makes me feel like the most important person on the planet. His smile is heart crushing and his humor has me laughing constantly. His desire for adventure has us continually exploring the world. Kasey is truly my best friend, I cannot imagine life without him.

Cultural Diversity

During our traveling experiences we have been exposed to many cultures. We love participating in events from cultures different than our own. We enjoy reading and learning more about the cultures we visited. We look forward to addressing cultural diversity from day 1 with our child. We plan to help integrate them and ourselves into their cultural heritage by learning and participating in events and traveling experiences that will help them better understand their heritage. As a family we will strive be involved with other members of their cultural heritage.

It has been very eye-opening to see Christina's sister integrate her children into their cultural heritage (Chinese and Alaska Native). She has done this by involving her children (not just her adopted children) in several cultural events and socializing her children with other members of their culture. We plan on following her example and integrating our children into their cultures. We also plan on reaching out to other individuals that we know personally to get advice on how to best effectively teach our children about their cultural heritage.
