The best moment of our lives was the day our son, Jackson, was placed in our arms. We received a phone call from our specialist that he had been born and we dropped everything we were doing. Trina called her Mom and brother who live a few houses down and they ran to our house. We were throwing everything into the car (including our wet laundry!). When we made it to the hospital, we walked into the room and looked at our son, we felt a love and bond that words cannot describe. It was that very moment we found our purpose in life. Jackson's family was in the room and it was amazing at how we immediately felt like family to each other. We all stayed in the same hospital room together for 2 days, we shared stories and laughed like we had known each other for years. We have a love for Jackson's first mom that is immeasurable. We want to give him everything she dreamed for him and more. To this day she expresses how perfect we are for Jackson. He is loved by so many people, what a beautiful way for him to start life!
We live in a metropolitan area in a racially and ethnically diverse neighborhood. We are surrounded by people from many walks of life, many religions, many races and many income levels. We want to teach our children to respect others and themselves. There are a lot of opportunities in our city for culturally diverse festivities, events, education and arts. Our son is biracial and we have experienced foster children of different races and understand that exposure to heritage is important. There are more biracial children that live on our street than any other race. We understand that different races have different experiences and obstacles in life and we will continue to educate ourselves and be aware of those differences. Being a same-sex couple we understand what it feels like to be different from others. We believe individuality should be celebrated and everyone should be proud of who they are. What is in a person's heart is what matters most!
