Our Leisure Time
Looking Out Over Seattle

We love to travel and to see the world whether it be domestic or international travel. Early in our marriage we decided that we would rather have memories than gifts, so we take the money we would spend on special occasion gifts and go on trips. We have been to some exciting places: Las Vegas, Disney World for a belated honeymoon, New Orleans to watch the Saints play, Philadelphia to explore America's history, Seattle which is our favorite city in the US, San Francisco so Sara could see the Pacific for the first time, and Christmas in London for our five year anniversary. We have been to other places as a couple and individually but those were some the most exciting. We look forward to sharing our love of travel and seeing the world with a child. We will also use travel as a way to expose a child to diversity and different cultures.

We also love sports. We both played soccer growing up and it is an important part of our lives. Many of our travels including watch various sports teams. Tom continues to play soccer in an adult league in the area. We look forward to introducing sports to a child and including them in our love of playing and watching soccer and college football.

Tom also likes to bird watch, hike, and generally enjoy nature in his spare time. He will be able to introduce a child to various aspects of nature and encourage the love of exploring.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Excited to See Tom's Favorite Soccer Team Play in London

Tom About Sara: I love Sara more than anything else in the world. I'm so glad that our life has turned out that way that it has because she makes me the happiest person in the world. Sara has been my friend for almost 20 years, and we have been married for almost nine of those years. If she had her way everything in the world would be planned out perfectly, but luckily I'm there to throw a wrench in her by the book planning by being more spontaneous (when we need to be). She likes just about everyone she meets and will give the shirt off her back to make you happy if that's what needs to be done. Sara makes me want to become a better person, through her caring for others. I think she will make a great mother because she wants everyone to excel and become the best person that they can be. She will help provide structure and routines to help with learning and caring for other people.

Sara About Tom: Tom is the love of my life and has been since we were teenagers. We didn't date or become serious until our late 20's, but he has always been a friend and someone I could rely on to support me. Tom is a loving, spontaneous, and charismatic person who is able to find humor in even the most difficult times. When my grandfather was in the hospital he was able to bring humor and wit to family members to help with the tension and sadness, which is probably why my Grandmother loves him so much. Tom is patient and understanding with children and will make an excellent father. He loves to teach children new things and believes everyone should continue to constantly learn new things. When I watch Tom with our nieces it makes my heart flutter because I know that he was born to be a father.

Why We Chose Adoption

We tried for a few years to conceive a child but we were unsuccessful. We mutually decided that we did not want to pursue any additional medical intervention, so we started researching adoption options.

Even before we decided to try and have biological children, we have always been open to adoption to build our family. Tom has childhood friends that were adopted and so he has always been interested in the idea. We are not the only ones in Tom's family adopting as his sister and her family is adding an internationally adopted child to the family in early 2018. We have done a lot of research on adoption and the many types, and we look forward to an open adoption. With an open adoption we are not only fortunate to add a child to our family but also the birth family.

We do not feel like a child has to be biological in order to be our child. We have endless love, security, and many passions to share with a child.
