We are so grateful that you are taking the time to review our profile. We are a young, active, and laid back couple that have been together and planning for adoption since high school. We cannot wait to share our love, energy and adventures with a child. We respect your decision, are thinking of you, and wishing you the best as you embark on this journey!
While we both love our jobs, time off is truly cherished. Together we seek out many adventures. We have backpacked through Europe twice and cannot wait to take our child abroad to experience new cultures, meet interesting people and witness some beautiful sights. In addition to traveling we enjoy being active. We are fortunate enough to live in an area that has great access to hiking, mountain biking, skiing and all sorts of water sports. One of our first baby-related purchases was a child hiking carrier so we can explore the scenic Pacific Northwest as a family.
We also love to entertain and enjoy hosting family dinners, movie nights, and out of town guests. We spend most our free time together but recognize the importance of having our own space and interests. Having taught shop class, Skyler enjoys spending his free time perfecting his woodworking skills. He looks forward to teaching our child to be both cautious and creative in the wood shop. Taryn loves to keep bees, garden and cook and cannot wait to teach our child the importance of using fresh, healthy and local ingredients. We are so lucky that our flexible schedules allow us to spend time together doing what we love!
We are excited to be adopting a child of a different heritage than ours and feel fortunate to live in an open-minded community that accepts people of different race, culture and sexual orientation. Throughout this process, we have constantly been considering how we can expose our child to an array of cultures. Fortunately, we both work in multiracial environments and are surrounded by friends and co-workers of different race, religion, and cultural backgrounds.
What is more, we are passionate about traveling and enjoy immersing ourselves in the various cultures throughout the United States and beyond. We have both visited over a dozen counties and know the importance and beauty of cultural diversity. During our time abroad we have met many amazing friends and genuinely enjoy learning about different traditions, religions, and cultures. Our plan is to continue traveling with our child, exposing them to cultures around the globe, all the while modeling and promoting love and acceptance for people.
Education has always been extremely important to us. While Taryn has her Master’s in Speech Language Pathology, Skyler has his Master’s in Education. Skyler is a first-generation college graduate and taught in the public-school setting for 6 years before transitioning to coaching college basketball. Taryn currently works as a public-school therapist in a prestigious school district. We will support our child and encourage them to pursue higher education in a field that they are passionate about. As educators, we feel prepared to support our child as they pursue their educational goals.
In addition to promoting quality education that fits our child’s unique learning style and needs we also plan to offer opportunities to acquire important life skills through hands-on learning opportunities. For example, we intend to travel with our child. Traveling will allow them to learn about various cultures, populations, religions and perspectives outside of what they encounter daily. Additionally, our child will be given the opportunity to pursue their passions. Whether our child wants to learn to play an instrument, join a sports team, or participate in an after-school program we plan on supporting them and giving them the tools they need to be successful.
