Exercising Safely During Pregnancy

While there are no guarantees that any type of exercise is 100 percent safe, many women cite the benefits of low impact exercising such as water aerobics, yoga or swimming. Many doctors and fitness experts say that light to moderate exercise during pregnancy can lessen the impact of labor and childbirth.

Below is a list of exercises that are often cited as safe during pregnancy.

  • Walking during pregnancy is the safest and easiest way of keeping in shape during pregnancy.
  • Water aerobics
  • Swimming (but be sure your breathing is consistent)
  • Pilates
  • Yoga
  • Light Stretching
  • Low-impact dancing
  • Cycling on a stationary bicycle
  • Specific targeted pregnancy exercise classes

Before starting any exercise program, you must first consult with a physician!
