Constipation

Constipation is one of the most common problems and discomforts that more than half of pregnant women state they experience during pregnancy.

The reason for this uncomfortable issue is that the uterus begins to put pressure on your rectum.

Not only can this cause constipation but also the onset of new pregnancy and the hormone changes can slow the movement of food through your digestive tract.

Many physicians prescribe Iron Supplements to pregnant women however, if you are experiencing constipation – this can often make it worse.

Remedies &/or Prevention:

  • Just like you would do when you aren’t pregnant, a HIGH FIBER diet is recommended. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains etc.
  • Drink A LOT of water.
  • ·Exercise regularly but not strenuously – walking, swimming, yoga, etc...
  • When you have to go, GO….don’t hold it.
  • Ask your Dr about taking a supplement such as Metamucil
