Personal Adoption Story
Autumn's Adoption Story

After I graduated from high school I found out I was pregnant. My emotions were running in all directions and I couldn't think clearly. However, I knew I had some important decisions to make.
Abortion would be the easiest, but also the chicken way out. My other option was to go ahead and have the baby, which is what I did. I knew I couldn't support a baby on my own since my boyfriend had already left me. I didn't want my parents to raise the baby because it was my responsibility, not theirs.
I was still young and had so many goals I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to go to school and get an education and I also wanted the baby to have a father figure and not a broken family. I decided to look into adoption. I contacted American Adoptions and was assigned a great social worker that helped me out with my situation. I was allowed to choose the terms of the adoption and pick the family and meet them before the baby was born. At the hospital I saw the looks on their faces and the excitement in their eyes and I knew that I wasn't giving her away, I was giving her a family.
This experience has opened many doors for my future, which I was unclear of before this incident. Now I know that I want to help others that are in the position I once was. I plan to graduate college with a degree in Sociology and work for an adoption agency. I want to make lives better for the birth family, the baby, and the adoptive family. Adoption helps turn a bad situation into a happy ending.
