Father Of The Baby

Birth Fathers: An Introduction

The father of your baby may or may not choose to be a part of your decision-making process. Whether he is supportive or not, you are not alone – many women, just like you, have experienced situations similar to yours!

Father is Supportive

In the event of an unplanned pregnancy, some fathers exhibit wonderfully supportive behavior, and are willing to work as a team with the mother to do whatever both feel is best for the baby’s future.

Father isn't supportive

Unfortunately, if the father of the baby is displaying less-than-ideal behavior upon finding out that you are pregnant with his child, chances are, he will likely not be supportive of your decision to place your baby for adoption, either.

Father is Abusive

Fathers who are abusive to you prior to learning about the pregnancy are likely to not only continue their pattern of abuse, it may worsen as time goes on.

Father Refuses to Sign Adoption Paperwork

American Adoptions can help you through the adoption process, even when the father of your baby is being anything but cooperative.

Father Hasn't Supported Any of His Previous Children

If the father of your child has failed to support previous children, there is more than a good chance that he will do the same with yours

Father is in and out of the picture

If the father of your baby displays a pattern of coming into and going out of your life as it is convenient for him, you can bet that this will not change upon the baby’s arrival.

Father is completely out of the picture.

American Adoptions has worked with many women who did not have contact with the father of their baby -- whether it was by choice or because they did not know who the father was.

Father is Different From Present Boyfriend/Husband

Sometimes, relationships end, even upon finding out of a pregnancy.

Father is in Jail

If the father of your baby is in jail, speak to your Adoption Specialist. She will be abel to explain to you your rights and the adoption process according to your state's laws.
