Birth Mother Scholarship Program

Are you interested in taking a class, receiving your GED, attending a training program or going to college?

American Adoptions has a scholarship program for birth mothers! We want you to be able to fulfill your educational goals and dreams. That's why every birth mother who goes through the adoption process with American Adoptions will receive a scholarship application and be considered for a financial scholarship to assist with the costs of education. American Adoptions offers educational scholarships for the college or school of your choice to help cover the cost of your tuition or books.

Twice a year, the American Adoptions Scholarship Committee meets to review scholarship applications received from birth mothers for the fall and spring semesters and chooses the winning scholarship applications. Unfortunately, we are not able to help every applicant with a scholarship. Every birth mother should understand that choosing adoption for your baby does not guarantee a scholarship would be available. If you are interested in learning more about the Birth Mother Scholarship Program, please contact your Adoption Specialist for more information.

The deadline for the spring semester applications is January 1st.

The deadline for the fall semester applications is August 1st.

* The number of scholarships, and the amount of each scholarship awarded each semester, vary depending on the number of applicants and tuition amounts.

Recipients of the scholarship are eligible for up to eight semesters. In order to renew an existing scholarship for all eight semesters you must:

  • Maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average (GPA)
  • Complete a scholarship reapplication form and submit it prior to each semester's deadline, along with copies of:
    • Your grade card from the previous semester
    • Your class schedule and tuition invoice for the upcoming semester

Numerous women have gone to college since American Adoptions' inception of the Scholarship program in 2001. Autumn was the first recipient to ever receive a birth mother scholarship. Autumn graduated in the spring of 2004 with a degree in sociology. She has gone on to pursue a graduate degree in social work and looks forward to a career in adoption, working with birth mothers. Way to go, Autumn!

My adoption story began on March 24, 2009, when I was told the most shocking news of my life. A physician at the Women's Clinic told me that I was three months pregnant. The reason this was so incredibly shocking was because I had not been sexually active in any way, shape, or form nor had I had any pregnancy symptoms in the past three months. About 20 minutes later I was told the most devastating news of my life. A counselor from the Women's Clinic told me that I was most likely a victim of date rape.
