My adoption story began on March 24, 2009, when I was told the most shocking news of my life. A physician at the Women's Clinic told me that I was three months pregnant. The reason this was so incredibly shocking was because I had not been sexually active in any way, shape, or form nor had I had any pregnancy symptoms in the past three months. About 20 minutes later I was told the most devastating news of my life. A counselor from the Women's Clinic told me that I was most likely a victim of date rape.

Deciding on adoption was one of the hardest decisions of my life. I knew exactly the kind of life I wanted for my baby and I knew I didn’t have the means to give him that life. I simply wasn’t ready or able to parent a child.

The summer of 2008, as a single parent of four beautiful teenage children, I found myself in a devastating position…pregnant. I was ashamed and scared. I didn’t know what I was going to do or how I would make it through.

My daughter saved my life, and I like to think that I saved hers. Bringing a child into this world has taught me more that I ever would have imagined. The whole experience has given me a chance to start over and I will never let it go to waste.

When I found out that I was pregnant, I was really happy, but then the father and I had split up. I then realized that I had absolutely no connection to the baby. I felt very bad that I felt this way, but then I thought there are millions of people that can’t have children. I called American Adoptions and they were friendly and very helpful.

Thank god for adoption. Thank you Angel Adoption and American Adoption for making this all possible. Most of all Melissa and John, Thank You for taking my little Angel in as your own with the unconditional love I already have seen first hand you have for her.

When I found out I was pregnant I was 20 years old, had a 1 yr old baby, constantly arguing with my boyfriend, and living in a hotel. I obviously was in no mental or financial shape to have another child.

It’s an amazing feeling being able to do something so life changing for someone else. It also pushed me to want to make something better of my life. The adoption is open so when my son wants to make contact I will be able to show him his adoption story and where he was born. I will be able to show him that adoption not only gave him a great life but also helped me to make more of my life.

Choosing adoption for my daughter was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. However, I am grateful knowing that my child is loved and cared for by her adoptive parents. They can provide for her and give her everything that I wish I could have given her. American Adoptions also helped me by providing me with a place to live and the resources I needed to get back on my feet. I am very thankful to them for that.

The biggest gift I could ever have given myself and my child would be giving a couple a baby to complete their family; not because I had to but because I wanted to. Michelle and Dave are two of the most wonderful people I will ever meet in my entire life. Now finally, at the age of twenty, going on twenty-one, I know adoption isn't just giving a child away, it's much deeper than that. Adoption is love and a family combined into one. It means more than one could ever imagine.
