Our Leisure Time

Hiking the Cascades

We both have activities and hobbies that we enjoy together and ones we enjoy separately. Together we enjoy hiking and hunting. Our hikes have taken us all over and our favorite places to go always involve big views of the mountains. There's something about that feeling of being on top of the world that we both love.

Hunting has been a tradition in Ken's family for generations and now we both share the passion. Hunting not only involves us, but our dogs as well. You'll never see more excited dogs then when we ask them if they want to go "find the birds." When you have a dog that not only serves as a companion, but one that you've spent so much time training and teaching, they very much become a part of you. We've had them since they were puppies and have watched them discover the world, develop their personalities, and learn new things. We both enjoy the goal of self-sufficiency that is hunting; bringing in our own meat and knowing where it came from is important to us.

Ken also love to go skiing and golfing while Chris loves woodworking and to practice martial arts, garden, preserve food, and read. It's important to us to not only have activities we enjoy together, but have things we love to do individually as well.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Trying Not to Laugh - For Us That's a Hard Thing to Do!

Ken About Chris: I find my wife to be the most thoughtful, caring person I could have ever hoped to marry. She has always been supportive of my ideas and dreams and at times helped pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow. She has never been afraid to speak her mind and once she's determined to do something she goes for it fully. She makes me a better person without trying to change me; she's my best friend and I can't wait to take this next step with her and make our family more complete.

Chris About Ken: My husband Ken is hard working, dedicated, and confident in who he is. These are all qualities I've always admired in him. He has never discouraged me from any goal or project I've set my mind to. When I told him I wanted to tear apart our kitchen and completely renovate it myself, he said go for it. That kind of trust and encouragement is priceless to me. He's always there for me whenever I need him, he accepts me and loves me just the way I am, and he always knows how to put a smile on my face. I feel lucky and blessed to have him as my husband and I can't wait to take this journey of becoming parents with him.

Cultural Diversity

We both interact with people of different races and cultural heritages. Many of them are our friends and people in our community that we respect very much. Acknowledging and appreciating people who are culturally different than us is very important, and we want to teach this child to accept and respect people of all cultural and social backgrounds. It is the differences in all of us that make each person special and those differences should be acknowledged, even celebrated. We also want this child to love their own cultural background. It is important to us that we instill this child with pride on who they are, where they come from, and respect for the heritage of others. This is important in raising a child that is confident in who they are and is respectful towards others. We feel that both of these qualities are important in helping a child become a productive , courteous, and considerate adult.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our house is a two-story, four-bedroom home. Your child will have their own room this is right next to ours. We combined two rooms downstairs into one larger, open living room area. We are planning to put a rug down in the open space so your child can have their own place to play and spread out their toys.

Neighborhood Playground

The neighborhood we live in is full of children of all ages. There will be other kids around to play with as they grow older. There are also lots of moms in the area that arrange play dates at many of the local parks. Your child will not lack for friends and social interactions with a variety of other children.

Our community holds quite a few events every year. We have annual parades on the fourth of July and during the fair in August. Every Friday during summer the park down the street hosts family friendly music or movie nights. The YMCA is across the street from the park and offers swimming and other fun child activities. There are walking paths that weave in and out of our neighborhood that pass lots of smaller parks and native areas.

Our Extended Families

Ken's Parents

Ken's family lives in the same neighborhood as we do, so we see them frequently. When we get together we often catch up, play with their new puppy, or watch football. Sometimes we have dinner together and we typically spend holidays with them.

Chris is the dessert maker for the family, so all holidays involve her making a themed dessert. Christmas is the only holiday she makes the same thing every year, pistachio cake. Everyone requests it so she now makes it every year.

Chris & Her Brother

Most of Chris's family live in Iowa, so we do not get to see them as much. She does talk to them frequently, though, so that helps her remain close to them. She does have one brother that lives close, and when we all get together we usually have a movie themed day. Sometimes it's a movie that we've all been wanting to see, or sometimes it's a bad B-horror movie that makes us all laugh.

Everyone in both our families are very supportive of our plan to adopt this child. They cannot wait to have a new member of the family to dote over.

From Us to You

We want to thank you for choosing to read through our profile. It means everything to us that you have chosen to consider us as potential parents for your child. We understand that this decision is one of the hardest ones you can ever make, and we also acknowledge that there's no way we can truly know how difficult this is for you. But we also want you to know that we respect your reasons for considering an adoption plan. Yes, we are very excited to have your child join our family, but we also want you to know that we do care about you, as well. We want the best for you and hope that this adoption can be the beginning of a good relationship between us.

When your child comes home with us, we want you to know that we would love for you to still be a part of their life. Your child will always know where they come from and how they became a member of our family. It is our hope that we will be able to have an open adoption so you can be an important person in their life. We believe that the more people that love a child, the better off they will be. In this case we hope that you will want to be a part of their life, to be able to watch them grow and be a part of that, even if it is from a far. This is our hope, but we also want you to know that we will always respect your choice. Because there's no way for us to really understand what you're going through now, and what you will go through once the adoption happens, we want you to know that no matter what you choose we will always respect your choice. We are open to exchanging emails and phone calls with you. It would even be great if we can occasionally video call so you and your child can see each other. In the future we would be open to some visits as well if that something you are open to. At the very least, pictures will be sent so you can see your child as they grow.

Please know that your child will be loved and cared for by us and our families. There will never be a day that goes by that they will not be wanted and cherished. Your child will be loved by us with everything we have and we will be sure to tell them every day how much they are loved. We look forward to watching them develop their personality, discovering what things in life bring them joy, and supporting them to pursue their passions. We will support them on whatever path they choose to follow in life and always encourage them to be the best person they can be. We will make sure they are happy, healthy, and have the best opportunities we can give them to have a great future. They will have both our families behind them, encouraging them through every step of their life as well.

There aren't words to express the gratitude we have for considering us for the gift of your child. We thank you, again, from the bottom of our hearts.

With much love,

Ken & Chris
