Chinmay & Rebecka
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about us. Adoption has always been a part of our plan in building our family, and we are so excited to get started! We understand what a huge responsibility it would be to be parents, let alone adoptive parents and promise to love any child we welcome into our home with all our hearts. We look forward to potentially walking this path of adoption with you.
Our Cultural Heritage
Chinmay's family is from India, and while he was born in Texas, from a young age his family made sure he always knew who he was. Chinmay is fluent in Gujrati (his family's native language), familiar and comfortable with his cultural traditions, and a fan of all Indian foods and snacks. Rebecka's family is primarily of Mexican heritage. She has had fun exploring her heritage while introducing Chinmay to cooking traditional meals, immersing themselves in the Spanish language and celebrating Latino holidays and traditions.
As an already multicultural family, we have learned to incorporate each other's heritage into our home all while maintaining a strong sense of personal cultural identity. We have become familiar with each other's culture and even embracing aspects as our own. From Chinmay learning the family tradition of tamale-making to Rebecka learning how to wear traditional Indian garments, we have fully embraced our spouse's cultural heritage and work hard to incorporate it into our lives. No matter our child's background, we know how vital it is that they develop a strong sense of cultural identity, and that responsibility lies fully on us. From seeking out members of their community, to incorporating food and customs into our family's daily routine, we plan to take an active role in helping our child embrace their heritage. We believe this will give them the confidence and strength to succeed in the world.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Chinmay About Rebecka: Rebecka is such a warm and loving person. She cares deeply for the people around her, always looking to make their lives better. It's the main reason she loves Christmas so much; so that she can show her love by baking and sharing cookies, inviting friends and family into our house, and picking out the perfect present to make someone feel loved and important. I can't wait for us to bring a child into our lives, not only so that she can make them as loved and cared for as she has made me feel, but so that she can show them how to do them same.
Rebecka About Chinmay: Chinmay is one of the most sincere and humble people you will ever meet. His care in planning the perfect date night or making sure our days at home are full of fun and cuddle time with the dog are ways that he makes our lives full. He makes his family feel safe, cared for and just simply loved. I know that the life he wants to create for a child will be full of genuine love and warmth, and that child will always feel that wherever Chinmay is, is home.
Our Professional Lives
We are both emergency medicine physicians, and this has a big impact not only on who we are and how we approach the world, but also how it affects our lives at home. Rebecka works at the local county hospital for roughly 14 shifts a month. She finds personal and professional satisfaction in caring for patients that are dear to her heart. This leaves her over half the month to be able to focus on things at home and with her family. In addition to working at the hospital, Chinmay also has leadership roles at the local medical school and residency. To accommodate for these responsibilities, he works less shifts in the ER, and has a more fixed schedule. This allows him to follow his true passion of teaching emergency medicine to the next generation of physicians. One of the best parts of our jobs is the support we have from our employers – who work to ensure we have a good work-life balance. They have been very enthusiastic about our adoption journey, including being ready to accommodate time off when the time comes and adjusting our schedules to help us manage the changing needs of our family.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a small city in the middle of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Living within 30 minutes of two large cities gives us access to many museums, theme parks, aquariums and zoos! We are also surrounded by ranches, farmland and many small lakes balancing out the hustle and bustle of the nearby cities. Our little city prides itself on its vast network of walking and biking trails that connect the city's parks which have been a blast to explore. We were lucky to find a close knit neighborhood with a mix of different family makeups and genuine people as neighbors.
When we were looking to purchase our first home together, the most important feature was a central space to host both of our families during the holidays. Our living room has become the true center of our home. It gives our mini dachshund, Dijón, a racetrack to run around all the furniture; our friend's kids space to finish their homework or work on their next dragon art masterpiece; and our families a place to catch up with each other while watching the big game. Our backyard was more than anything we could have ever dreamt allowing us to host friends and family for summer BBQs, pool parties and enjoying a relaxing day sitting in the grass while their kids play in the playscape.
Our Extended Families
We both come from very large extended families with very close relationships to our siblings. Rebecka is the oldest of three daughters, and Chinmay has a younger sister.
While Rebecka's family lives in California, we visit with them often and make a special point of spending the winter holidays there. Rebecka's mom works as a youth minister with her local parish, and her father works as a milk man for a large dairy. Rebecka's younger sister is a nurse, and her youngest sister is a trained chef working as a food service manager. We have been grateful with how frequently her family visits and have been assured even more visits with a child in the home.
Chinmay's parents live within a couple of hours of us, and we see each other regularly. His mother is trained as a mother-baby nurse currently working from home for the State. His father is an engineer who loves electronics. They love having our dog Dijón around their house and enjoy spoiling him when we are traveling. We are lucky to be able to spend time with them nearly every month and also visit Chinmay's extended family and grandmother (Nani). Chinmay's sister currently lives out of state in Illinois completing her schooling though we are hopeful she'll be returning soon!
Both of our families were beyond excited when we told them we were starting the adoption process, and our moms especially cannot wait to welcome a new baby into the world and our family.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to read more about us. There is so much about this process that can be intimidating, and we hope that learning more about us can alleviate some of that. Our hope is that together we can make this process feel safe, and the journey is one of love and respect.
We are Chinmay, Rebecka and Dijón (our 12-year-old mini Dachshund) and we live in North Texas. We both work as physicians in our local ERs, and Chinmay also works at a nearby medical school teaching students. We love to experience new places and cultures through travel. Our favorite parts have been taking local cooking classes, getting to know people in the area and exploring the history of a place we've only seen in books. We hope to share our love of adventure and thirst for knowledge with a child one day. While we love to travel, our home is our safe place. We like to sit and cuddle on the couch, read a fun book by the pool or play a card game for bragger's rights. Like our house, our relationship is one of comfort where we can truly experience peace and joy - from a warm cup of tea on the porch to a spontaneous dancing session in the dining room. We feel that raising a child in this place of love, warmth and adventure will truly allow them to flourish and become a beautiful part of this world.
We have not come into this world of adoption lightly. We've talked about adoption as a means of building our family even before getting married, and this process has allowed us to dig deeper into who we are as individuals and as a family. Our vision for a future adopted child is that they are surrounded by the love and support that we were both fortunate to grow up with. Both of our families have such strong roles in our lives and we know that any child we adopt will be met with open arms and even bear hugs.
We hope to instill a sense of pride in our child that they are a part of a family created through adoption. A sense of pride that every one of their parents has made choices solely with their future in mind. We strive for an adoption plan that fits the child best. We are hopeful for an open adoption and know that research supports it. We also know that every situation is different and not always accounted for in research. If you chose adoption, our wish is for a relationship that you feel is best for your heart and your child. We are open to in person visits, sharing letters, emails or photos, or just seeing where the relationship takes us all. You would always be an important part of our lives as well as your child's and we hope that is reflected in our time together. Regardless of the role you wish to play, with your permission, your child will always know who you are so they can better know themselves.
We know how lucky we are to have found each other, and we believe the love we share will only get bigger with a child. Chinmay makes everywhere we are feel safe and like home. He is warm, kind and hardworking - all characteristics that will make him an amazing father. Rebecka is strong, loving and supportive which has helped us create our feeling of home. While there are so many unknowns in this world - we know that our home will always be one of love. We can only be humbled by the responsibility entrusted to us by potential birth parents. We feel that it is our primary obligation not only to a child, but also to their birth parents, to help that child become the best version of themselves. We are full of nervous excitement hoping to bring a child into our home.
We thank you for taking the time to learn more about us!
