Adoption in Our Lives

Vacationing in Florida

Prior to adopting Henry and Walter, we had seen and experienced the joys of adoption numerous times through our extended family and friends. (Three of Paula’s cousins are adopted and many of our close friends had also adopted children.) We had witnessed the miracle of adoption and how it filled these families with love and happiness.

Yet nothing prepared us for the incredible and wonderful experience of adopting our two spectacular boys. In 2008 and 2012, we were fortunate to adopt our sons Henry and Walter. They are the most miraculous gifts and blessings. We feel like we hit the adoption jackpot!! We treasure every moment with them and cannot explain how much we (and our extended families) love them, and how much joy and happiness they bring to our family.

We maintain contact with both Henry’s and Walter’s birth mothers. In addition to providing letters and pictures, we also exchanged email addresses and update them on their accomplishments. We enjoy sharing their growth and experiences, and it contributes to their adoption story.

We hope to add another child to our family. We would cherish the opportunity to share our love and affection with him/her. Henry and Walter are also excited about having a baby brother or sister. Henry stated, “We need more people in this family.” We whole-heartedly agree!

Our Leisure Time

Touring San Francisco

We love to have fun! We have a family tradition of picking fruit (strawberries in the spring, peaches in the summer, and apples in the fall), and then going around to our friends and family to deliver the fresh fruit and our homemade jam. In the winter, we bundle up, drive out to a tree farm, and cut down our own Christmas tree. We enjoy attending live events, including the theater, symphony, and a variety of sporting events, especially baseball, hockey, and college football. Since we are big Nebraska Cornhusker football fans and Paula’s father has season tickets, we try to go to at least one game a year.

During the summer, Fritz’s schedule is flexible so it is a great opportunity to travel. Some of our favorite memories are from trips together: attending a ghost tour of Colonial Williamsburg, walking through the giant redwoods at Muir Woods outside of San Francisco, driving on the left side of the road in Ireland, playing in the surf in Florida, taking a special behind-the-scenes tour of the White House, participating in a cowboy sing-along and wagon ride at Big Cedar Lodge, and jumping off the dock at Table Rock Lake. We love to experience new things together!

Discussing Adoption

We Can't Wait to Welcome Another Child Into Our Family!

We plan to discuss adoption openly and honestly with the child, and answer any questions he/she may have. We will emphasize the difficult yet loving decision made by the birth parents, and we will share the adoption story so the child will understand how he/she came to be a part of our lives. For instance, we were fortunate to spend time with both Henry’s and Walter’s birth mothers in the hospital and afterward. We listened to their stories, took photos, and talked about their hopes and dreams for each of them. We used this information to create individual adoption scrapbooks to celebrate the beginning of each of their lives. We would love to do this for your child also. He/she will know it was generous love and sacrifice that gave us the opportunity to share our lives together.

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

Our home is a charming ranch with both the character of an older home and the updates to make it modern and efficient. It has bright rooms, hardwood floors throughout, and a cozy fireplace. We have a lovely backyard with both covered and open patios, and every summer we plant flowers and a vegetable garden.

Our block is made up of established families and young families just starting out. We spend a lot of time outdoors with the neighborhood children: drawing with chalk, playing games, riding bikes and scooters, digging in the sandbox, and greeting our neighbors as they walk by. We have become the house where everyone comes to play!

We live in a quiet neighborhood in an older suburb of a large metropolitan city. This suburb is sought after because it is convenient to all of the “big city” amenities, yet still safe, inviting, and family-friendly with a highly-rated school system. We are within walking distance of two parks (with playgrounds, ball fields, and tennis courts), multiple schools, and a community center with a large outdoor aquatic center, indoor ice rink, outdoor roller-hockey rink, and fitness center.

Every 4th of July, our city hosts Community Days which include a parade, barbecue, fireworks, and carnival with rides, games, and outdoor bands. This is not only a community tradition, it has also become one of ours: we walk down to watch the parade in the morning, visit the carnival for a few hours, and then return that night to see the fireworks.

Our Extended Families

Fritz's Family

Our entire family is incredibly excited and enthusiastic about our plans to adopt again. They are extremely supportive and looking forward to the arrival of a new child to shower with love and affection.

Fritz and his three younger brothers were raised in a rough-and-tumble all-boy household, with constant fun and activity. They shared many first experiences together including swimming and tennis lessons, skiing, and playing musical instruments. During their annual road trips, they crammed together in a station wagon and drove around the country visiting relatives, exploring national parks, bodysurfing in the ocean, and touring historical landmarks.

Paula's Family

Paula grew up as a middle child in a large traditional family with three brothers and two sisters. Every night, the family gathered together at dinnertime to discuss the day’s events. Both of Paula’s parents are excellent cooks, and since her father is Italian, there was always a great amount of food, too!

Fortunately, some of our siblings and their families live only 10 minutes away (including eight nieces and nephews!), so we see them frequently and are an active part in each others’ lives. Our two boys love to spend time with their cousins. We enjoy picnicking, swimming, playing at the park, and visiting the zoo, museums, and outdoor theater. We also cheer each other on at numerous games, concerts, and programs, and we celebrate birthdays and holidays together.

From Us to You

Our names are Fritz and Paula. We would like to thank you for reading this letter and for considering adoption for your child. We understand that this is an extremely difficult decision and hope you receive love and support to guide you during this time. Hopefully, this letter will help you learn about us as a couple and what kind of life we would offer your child. If you choose us, please believe that we would unconditionally love and support your child and provide him/her with a safe, stable, and caring family.

We would first like to tell you a little about ourselves. We met the first week in college and quickly became best friends. After spending every free minute we had together, we were married. This past summer we celebrated our seventeenth wedding anniversary. We cannot believe it has been that long! We complement each other perfectly and truly approach our marriage with love and friendship. We are a team and enjoy sharing both exciting and ordinary times together.

We always knew we wanted to have a family. We love interacting with children both personally and professionally, and we chose majors and careers that involve helping children (principal/teacher/coach and school psychologist/coach). Since we are unable to have biological children, adoption has always been the natural choice for us. In 2008 and 2012, we were privileged to adopt our sons Henry and Walter. What an incredible and extraordinary experience! The boys are amazing, and they are anxious to grow our family and become big brothers. Our family and friends are also very excited and anticipating the day that they can love and spoil a new child.

We are fortunate that our stable financial situation allows Paula to stay at home and care for the family. Since Paula is not working, she focuses her time and energy on being a caring mother and supportive wife, managing the house, and preparing our lives for another child. She is ecstatic to be a stay-at-home mom and believes that this is her most important job. In addition, with Fritz’s schedule and ability to take time off during the summer, there are many opportunities for family time.

We cannot wait to pass on our favorite activities, traditions, and love of knowledge to your child. We are also excited to discover new family-oriented activities together and start unique family traditions that grow from his/her interests and talents. We are eager to share activities like making pancakes with Daddy on Saturdays, snuggling up with our favorite books, planting flowers and vegetables, hiking at the nature center, picking fruit fresh off the tree, and visiting our local children’s museums. Our traditions, such as swimming in the ocean every spring, dressing up at Halloween, hosting our family Easter egg hunt, and cutting down our Christmas tree will have added meaning and importance. We also value education and would provide the best opportunities and learning environment possible. We would encourage strong values and morals, and teach generosity and respect. We want to give him/her a childhood similar to our own filled with love, happiness, and stability.

Please trust that we will be open and honest about sharing your child’s adoption story. We will admire and honor you, and your child will always know that your decision was made out of love and strength. We would like to learn more about you and your desires for your child, and we will happily share letters, pictures, and emails as your child grows and matures.

Finally, thank you for considering adoption and for reading our letter and profile. We believe that children are special blessings and if you choose us, we will be forever grateful. You will have answered our prayers.

May God bless you always,

Fritz & Paula
