Our Leisure Time

Our Family

We are a couple that is full of energy and fun. We are fortunate enough to have flexible work schedules which allows us to enjoy many activities. Although we live in the countryside, we also enjoy going into the city for family fun. Together we enjoy yoga, hiking, cooking, and farming. We have fun going to all sort of concerts to listen to live music and dance. We love attending and planning outdoor festivals in our community. We look forward to sharing our annual Fall Festival out at the farm with our children.

Benton with a Student from the School He Volunteers At

Benton spends every Thursday at an inner-city school, where he volunteers in the classroom and takes the students on field trips out to the farm and to cultural activities around town. Maggie enjoys volunteering with our local food bank and teaching interns how to farm. She also has families out to the farm to experience a working farm as well as for art activities, cooking classes, and garden walks.

As much as we enjoy the farm lifestyle, we also enjoy traveling and visiting different cultures. Seeing the world is important to us so we take trips to different cities around the U.S. and abroad such as Africa, Europe, South and Central America.

Addressing Cultural Diversity

Giving a Cooking Lesson

We were raised to be open minded, compassionate, and loving individuals. Our parents instilled in us early on to care for all people. We will be sure to do the same, and instill in our children the importance of having an open mind, an open heart, and a caring attitude. While we come from similar cultures, we have friends, family and neighbors from all walks of life. We will share that diversity with our children. We will attend events and gatherings around town that are open to all types of people from all cultural backgrounds. Through our volunteer work, travel, and education we have been exposed to many cultures and plan to do the same for our children. We will stand up for our family through educating the people around us, staying positive, and always showing compassion for each other. We will discuss race with our children and be sure they feel confident as the wonderful people they are.

Our Pets

With Ducks at Our Farm

We are animal lovers. Not only do we love our dog who lives with us but we also love all the farm animals. We have a seven year old dog, Oscar, who loves children. He is important to us because he teaches us about unconditional love, patience, and loyalty. He also makes our household feel more like a family and is always excited to greet us when we get home.

We have raised chickens, ducks, and pigs with much success. They were important in teaching us how to work together and how much hard work and dedication it takes to raise something from one day old to adulthood. On the farm we still enjoy spending time with the cattle, horses, sheep, chickens, and ducks that live happy lives. The farm animals always bring a smile to the faces of the families that visit. We look forward to Oscar meeting our child and the child finding much joy in visiting the farm animals.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We are both from Kentucky and love living in our hometown. We are blessed to have the best of both worlds — city life and farm life. We live on our family farm but visit our city's picturesque downtown community a lot. We visit a large park on the river where we enjoy picnics and walking our dog. There are also family friendly restaurants, fun shops, and museums nearby. Many of our friends with children live in neighborhoods close to us and love to visit us at the farm.

The Farm

Our house is cozy and sweet. We live right next to a horse barn so we spend a lot of time visiting the horses and taking walks in the woods. Our house is two stories with two bedrooms downstairs and one upstairs. We spend a lot of time in our kitchen and living room cooking, listening to music, dancing, reading, and playing games. The porch and view of the farm are what we enjoy the most about our home.

On weekends, we love to have friends with children over to visit the animals on the farm. We also have cookouts where we grill burgers and our family and friends bring side dishes. We enjoy swimming and hiking in the summer and relaxing around a fire in the winter.

Our Extended Families

Visiting Family in D.C.

Spending time with our families is very important to us. We have three sets of grandparents that live nearby. Maggie’s mom and stepdad live in walking distance and we stroll over there to play in their big living room and go swimming. Benton’s mom and dad live on a farm down the road where we fish and enjoy Sunday Suppers. Maggie’s dad and stepmother live in the city and we go there for family gatherings where we make cheeseburgers and hot dogs.

Maggie & Her Dad

Benton has an older brother who lives next door. He comes over for dinner and to play with our son, Miles. Benton has an older sister and brother-in-law with three boys that we love to visit in Washington, D.C. They come and stay with us for a week each summer. Maggie has two older brothers who live in town and are both married to wonderful women. The six of us get together once a month and enjoy evenings out listening to live music or going to a play. Miles has two cousins he plays with a lot. They live nearby and are 10 months old and two years old.

From Us to You

Hi! We are Maggie and Benton and we would first like to thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We are a happy couple that has been married for seven years. We live on a farm with our two-year-old son and seven-year-old dog and a lot of farm animals and extended family. We are extremely grateful you are considering us as potential parents should you choose to pursue adoption. We understand you have a difficult decision to make and we wish you much peace and thoughtfulness in your decision.

Our lives are filled with adventure, creativity, community activities and family gatherings. It is our desire to share our blessings, traditions and love with our children. While we enjoy our careers and volunteer work, the time has come in our lives where we are ready to prioritize family life. Our desire is to grow our family through adoption. We have dreamed of adopting and having children ever since we met. Adoption has always been in our hearts. Three years ago we decided to start the adoption process and try to get pregnant at the same time. The adoption journey proved to be a beautifully challenging process and so did getting pregnant. After a miscarriage and some issues with infertility, we ended up getting pregnant in January 2016 and have a healthy two-year-old son. Our faith and hope in adoption has always been there by our side as our guiding light. Adoption is a precious gift and we are ever thankful for your courage. Maggie will be taking time off work to stay home and nurture this child during its early years. Benton is an incredible father and very much enjoys being around children. He enjoys spending time with his three nephews while visiting them regularly. While continuing to pursue his career, he is a supportive and active father. He takes Fridays off from work for daddy time, allowing Maggie to get some farm chores done.

We will enjoy activities as a family such as, visiting the animals on the farm, enjoying time with friends, taking walks in the city parks with our dog, playing on the playground, exploring museums, farmers’ markets, music classes, and art classes. Children are a blessing that we look forward to raising. Throughout their whole life we will surround them with unconditional love and support. We live near some wonderful schools that offer hands on academic and creative learning along with extracurricular activities such as sports and arts activities. As our children grow we will encourage them to build on their strengths and pursue their passions.

We plan on providing this child with the best life we have to offer. Our desire is not only to provide a loving home, but to provide the best education possible and give this child the tools they will need to be a productive citizen. We want to expose our family to travel and see other parts of the world and cultures.

We are passionate about telling this child their adoption story at an early age. We will express respect, gratitude and love while telling this story. It is our desire to share photos and letters of milestones over the years so you may see this child is being well cared for and surrounded by love.

Thank you for reading our story and considering us to be the parents of this child. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to welcome this child into our home.

Warmest Regards,

Benton & Maggie
