Bill & Cate
We are excited to be starting our family through adoption. We have been together 11 years and have worked to build a happy life together. We can't wait to be parents. Cate looks forward to diapers, endless bottle washing and late night feedings. Bill looks forward to playing games, answering all sorts of questions, repairing bikes and scraped knees.
Adoption in Our Lives
Cate has an aunt that is adopted and a sister-in-law who is both an adoptee and a birth mother. Through Cate's sister-in-law we have learned the importance of staying in contact with birthparents. We have seen the extreme pleasure that was displayed when the letters and pictures arrived in the mail. This showed us that keeping in contact helps cement that their decision was the correct one. It also helps the birthparent be a part of the child's life and see the child mature and grow in all of their endeavors.
Rob and Michelle, the couple that introduced us, have two adorable adopted children, Jackson and Blake. Much like us Rob and Michelle can’t have children on their own. In their adoption journey Rob and Michelle have been a few years ahead us, showing us the way. They have shared advice, as well as baby clothes and toys and continue to be supportive in all of our efforts.
Favorite Vacation Spot
Our favorite vacation spot is at Christmas Mountain Village in the Wisconsin Dells. We like to rent a cabin for the week and mostly relax with our books, movies and games in a quiet pine forest next to a golf course just outside the Dells. We visit the pool and hot tub and occasionally go into town for a night out. If there is a science fiction or superhero movie playing we will try to catch it at the Dells Drive In. The picture quality isn't the best but the popcorn is excellent! We visit each of the dozens of t-shirt shops lining main street, and pick up some fresh made candy at Swiss Maids Fudge. Almost every year we visit Paint It! Pottery so Cate can hand paint pottery as gifts for our family, and Bill can paint a videogame themed coffee mug that he can’t quite work up the courage to take into work. We have gone horseback riding, and taken the Upper Dells boat tour to watch a dog jump across Stand Rock. Every time we go we try to look for a new and fun experience and we can’t wait to have a child join us on these trips!
Our Religious Beliefs
We were raised in the Lutheran faith, and both attended church on Sunday regularly as children. Now we attend church on special occasions like Easter and Christmas. We tend to view our faith as a personal matter and do not often burden others with our beliefs. We pray, believe in tolerance, charity, and forgiveness. We recognize that we are not perfect and try to do better. We also do our best to live by the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
We do plan to baptize our children in our faith. At the appropriate age they will be prepared and instructed in Confirmation for the Lutheran Church much as we were. We will provide them with the basis of our faith and experience and will continue to love and support them regardless of where their personal journey of faith takes them.
Our Extended Families
We don't have family in the immediate area, but we try to see our family as often as possible. We typically get together for birthdays and holidays. There is always a lot of chatting and catching up!
Cate has an older sister and a younger brother. Her sister has four sons. The oldest of which has a daughter and two sons. Cate also has a younger brother. He and his wife have two daughters and a son. Bill has a younger sister who has a daughter and two sons. Her daughter also has a daughter.
When we're with family Bill spends time fixing family computers and helping everyone figure out their new technology. His father, Ron, always make sure there is a heavy, greasy engine in the garage so they can sneak out to do some work and talk about their projects.
Cate loves to spoil the nieces and nephews to make sure everyone has nice things to wear throughout the year. With so many nieces and nephews on her side of the family a lot of time is spent working out the details of when we can all be together next.
Our families and friends have been behind us 110% in our adoption endeavor. Our extended families are eager to welcome another child into their lives. Our nephews, nieces and little cousins will certainly be thrilled to welcome a new baby. We are blessed to have loving families that have so much to share.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our house has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, kitchen, dining room, living room and a room we call the waiting room. It’s supposed to be a dining room, but its waiting for us to figure out what else to do with it. In the meantime we filled it with books, board games and comfy places to sit.
Our subdivision was developed to promote a real sense of community. There are several families in the neighborhood with kids. We often see them playing outside in our yard and their own yards. We see them taking walks with their parents and can chat with them from our front porch. We'd like our children to be active in the community. Our hopes are to participate in programs at the county humane society which is also near our home.
We have a park nearby with swings, slides and a jungle gym. During a recent family get together, we took 7 kids to the park for an hour or so – we had so much fun! We also like to regularly visit the Zoo and the Children's museum. These are two of the many kid friendly destinations in our area that encourage play, laughter, fun and child development.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking time to view our profile. We already know that you are a brave, unselfish, loving woman and man. We promise that your child will grow up knowing this. We would be so blessed to have that honor and thankful that you are considering us as parents.
We were introduced in 2005 by mutual friends on a double date to Cheeseburger in Paradise. We have been together ever since! Knowing a biological child was not in our future, we chose to pursue adoption. It was an easy decision for us as we had witnessed our close friends (the ones who introduced us) become parents through adoption. We are so excited to be on this journey!
We picture ourselves down on the floor with an infant playing, being involved with every aspect of their young life and sharing our happiness with them. We have a sunny home that Cate has filled with everything we need to care for a child, from bottles to bright warm clothes. We look forward to toys scattered everywhere, and the sounds of children at play. We live in a friendly neighborhood with a park nearby and children of all ages racing from yard to yard, riding bikes and playing with one another.
We will be loving, caring, and actively involved parents. We look forward to providing guidance to a child to help them make their way through life. At every stage we will encourage them to discover and develop their interests. Early on there will be books and crayons but later in life they will show us what they want to be. We will share things with them that we enjoy; our love for reading, storytelling, playing games and having new adventures together. We look forward to attending sporting events, dance recitals, plays, and will always encourage them in what they decide to pursue in life.
As parents we will give a child unconditional love, support, endless patience, and broad shoulders to cry on. When they make mistakes we will be there to help them learn from them. When they fall down we will be there to pick them up, hug them and send them off in a new direction.
We hope that the child will share our love of the theater. One of our first dates was to see the musical Chicago. We have also seen, and very much enjoyed, Cats and, most recently, Phantom of the Opera. We've made the trip to Spring Green to American Players Theater. It is an outdoor theater deep in the woods that is open from June until October. They have recently built an indoor theater that has shows through November.
We will tell your child about you and the courage, care and love that went into your decision. You will be in our thoughts and prayers throughout our lifetime. We are eager to meet you and share this time with you. We are open to sharing pictures and letters with you; you can count on our honesty and respect. We are interested in getting to know you if that is what you choose and talking about what the future may look like together.
We look forward to our time together,
Bill & Cate
