Dan & Melissa
Thank you so much for reading our profile and getting to know us! Choosing us to be parents to your child would mean more to us than you could ever imagine. We greatly admire you for considering adoption as a means to offer your child life's greatest opportunities. We are extremely excited about the future and if you were to choose us, you would be fulfilling our most important life goal of starting a family.
We love spending time with our family and friends, whether going to a movie or dinner, playing cards, board games or just hanging out at the house. We both enjoy attending sporting events and playing sports ourselves. Dan plays volleyball one night a week and can jump higher than people half his age. Staying fit and healthy is very important to us, but doesn't rule our lives, which you can tell by the buckets of buttered popcorn we eat at the movie theater or the pints of Culver's frozen custard you can always find in our freezer.
Our careers are important to us, but we make time to be together and attend family functions. Large family gatherings are held frequently and the more children, the merrier! We have young nephews and cousins that would love nothing more than to have more family members to play with.
Dan has his own business and would be thrilled to shift his schedule to be able to spend time with our young child at home. We both want to be able to spend as much time as possible with our children to give them the love and nurturing they deserve.
We take multiple vacations throughout the year and have been waiting for the opportunity to take our child on those vacations with us. To see our child's face the first time they go to a zoo, see the ocean or ride a ride at Disney – those are the things we look forward to as parents!
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Dan About Melissa: Melissa has many qualities that I love, admire, and respect. I admire her problem-solving abilities and how she tackles any problem put in front of her calmly and rationally. Her intelligence is unmatched; she excels in her career and, prior to that, in school. She has a great sense of humor and is extremely witty, always ready with a quip or a comment. I respect how Melissa has maintained her composure throughout our journey to parenthood. From overcoming the loss of not being able to carry a child, to her positive and eager outlook on this adoption process, she is strong. Melissa is an honest and loving person. She is very compassionate, always able to feel how another person is feeling and to put herself in their situation. Melissa has all these qualities and many more and I look forward to seeing her share her gifts with our child.
Melissa About Dan: Dan is a very caring man who goes out of his way to help any, and everyone, he can. I have always respected his hard-working and dedicated attitude. Dan is extremely determined and disciplined, character traits that aided him in establishing his own business and have led to its continued success. I admire Dan's excitement and enthusiasm to become a parent. He has so much love to give and will make an excellent dad. Dan's enthusiasm on Christmas morning is typically unmatched and I am so eager to see his excitement when he has a child to share those types of moments with.
Why We Chose Adoption
“Two or three" is the answer we would have given 15 years ago if you asked us how many kids we planned to have. We were early in our careers and had just bought a house. Our plan was to wait a couple years before trying to start a family to ensure we were financially set to provide for our children. A few years later, we realized that getting pregnant was going to be more difficult than either of us had ever imagined. Primary physician visits led to fertility specialist appointments, and we found ourselves several years behind our planned timeline for starting our family. We never imagined getting to the point of IVF but accepted it as part of our journey. Our dream of becoming parents seemed to slip further away as we coped with the loss following each new treatment and failed attempt.
Throughout those years, we attended multiple seminars and classes to learn about adoption. We were open to adoption but needed time to heal from the losses we had suffered. Today, we are back to our optimistic outlook and are enthusiastically focusing our energy on growing our family through adoption. We have dealt with the sadness and heartbreak of our experiences and are ready to welcome an incredible child into our hearts. We visualize a future where our dreams of loving and nurturing a child become our reality. We see this adoption not as the end of our long journey to parenthood, but as the start of us living and sharing our dreams with our child.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a moderately-sized city, located in scenic southern Wisconsin, where we enjoy rivers, rolling hills, farmland and woodlands. Perhaps what our city is best known for is its abundance of beautiful parks and recreational areas. Convenient boat launches, numerous ball fields, playgrounds, two public golf courses, tennis courts, over 2,300 acres of parkland and 25+ miles of paved bike/walking trails are just some of our community's amenities. We have numerous annual events in our community, including county fairs, seasonal festivals, holiday parades, fireworks and light shows. Attending festival concerts and sampling fair food are two of our favorite summer pastimes.:
We live in a ranch style home with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Our basement is finished with a large recreational room, weight room, half bathroom and laundry room. Our favorite room is the living room, where we watch TV, talk about our day and enjoy each other's company. We have plenty of space to grow our family!
Our house sits on over an acre of land that backs up to a field. We have a spacious yard for play and our neighborhood offers a perfect one mile, low-traffic walking/biking path. Families in our rural, residential subdivision vary from young couples just starting their families to retired people living with their grown children and young grandchildren. Our subdivision has a neighborhood park with several planned events, including an annual summer block party and a bonfire gathering after trick-or-treating each year.
Our Extended Families
Our families are overjoyed with our decision to adopt. We have been trying to start a family for many years and the addition of another grandchild/niece/nephew/cousin is highly anticipated. We have six siblings between the two of us and six nieces and nephews. The aunts are eagerly awaiting baby time and will make awesome sitters.
To say we have large family gatherings for birthdays and holidays would be an understatement! With many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins nearby, there is always something to celebrate. Our families really know how to throw a party, with all sorts of food, music and games for all ages!
We both have family living nearby, so we get together often to play games, have family dinners or just hang out and watch movies. Every summer, we enjoy fishing, hiking, large cookouts (with way too much food) and Milwaukee Brewers outings. We spend many weekends in Melissa's hometown, which has proudly been named "The Waterpark Capital of the World."
Currently, we have siblings living in California and Idaho. Traveling to see them always gives us something to look forward to, especially during the winter months. We love to spend time by the ocean and in the mountains.
From Us to You
We are so grateful that you are taking the time to read our profile and learn a little about us. We can only imagine how difficult this decision is for you and we want you to know how much admiration and appreciation we have for you. We have wanted a family for so long and we truly feel that we are in the best possible place in our lives to care for a child (or twins!). We can provide a safe, secure and loving home and want more than anything to offer a child as many wonderful life experiences as humanly possible.
We have been together for nearly 20 years and happily married for 15. We met in college and have been together ever since. Dan's hard work and dedication have allowed him to build a business where he can set his own hours and work from home. Being a part-time, stay-at-home daddy has been a goal of his since we began planning for parenthood over a decade ago! We struggled with infertility for many years and always came back to the idea of adoption. Adoption is an incredible gift that will grow our family while positively impacting another and we feel privileged to be on this amazing journey!
We are a fun and energetic couple who loves to travel and try new things. We are sports enthusiasts, watchers and players of several sports. We both grew up participating in sports, everything from ballet to hockey. We cheer for our home state's collegiate and professional teams and have been known to mix our love for travel with our love for sports, occasionally traveling to other stadiums to watch our Milwaukee Brewers play baseball. We have even been lucky enough to attend the team's spring training in Arizona twice!
In addition to physical activity, we strongly value education, both in and out of the classroom. We will constantly strive to introduce our child to new, exciting learning opportunities outside of the classroom through participation in sports, clubs, music and other hobbies while encouraging continued dedication to classroom education. Some of our most cherished memories are from our school years and we want our child to experience the same enthusiasm we felt as children for both the learning and social aspects of a formal education.
As parents, we will encourage the values our parents instilled in us with unconditional love. We will be mindful to always lead by example, demonstrating honesty, integrity, hard work, respect for others, empathy, humility and kindness. Our child will love and be loved by us and the extended family and friends we hold so dear.
We cannot wait to experience new life adventures and create lifelong memories with our child. We have so much love to give and we know that your love does not end with adoption. We want you to feel assured that we will always honor you in our home. We will share your loving story and explain how, together with you, it became "our story". We want to develop a healthy relationship for all and would be happy to send you pictures and updates if it is your wish to keep communication open. If you have any questions for us after viewing our profile, please feel free to reach out.
With love and respect,
Dan & Melissa
