Eileen's Adoption Story

We Can't Wait to Be a Family of Four!

Having been adopted myself as an infant, I grew up always knowing I was adopted. My adoptive parents shared the story of my adoption with me from the time I was an infant. Through this repetition, the story became a part of me. As I grew and had questions, my adoptive parents were always very honest, open and happy to talk with me about my adoption and share what they knew about my birth parents and my story. Having this open and honest communication provided me with a sense of security and enabled me to explore and share my feelings. From my own experience of being adopted, I understand the significance of creating a positive image of adoption. Brad and I plan to be open and honest with our children, so that your baby will understand their journey into our family and where their story began. We want your child to know about their birth parents and have a connection to their own special history. We understand that each adoption is unique, just as every individual is unique, and that adoption is a complex process with few common denominators. Every adopted child experiences adoption differently. I hope that my personal history will provide us with valuable tools to support and guide your child as they grow and deal with the array of emotions that may arise. We are looking forward to the opportunity to have an open adoption to ensure your child can have an intimate connection with you as well as access to and knowledge of their personal background.

Our Lifestyle

Family Hike at Minnehaha Falls

We are a very active family with a passion for nature and the outdoors. We enjoy living in an area where we can appreciate the changing of the seasons and participate in a wide variety of seasonal activities. In the winter we enjoy snowshoeing, sledding, building snow forts and snowmen, and then warming up with a cup of hot cocoa. In the spring we savor jumping in puddles, playing in the mud, and family explorations searching for the first signs of spring flowers blooming and the sound of spring peepers. In summer we relish long days swimming at the lake, canoeing, grilling out, picnics in the park, or just playing in our yard and neighborhood for hours on end. In the fall we revel in the cool, brisk days, spending time playing in the leaves, taking long nature hikes, or visiting the apple orchard, pumpkin patch and Christmas tree farm.

We value connecting as a family and we love spending time together, whether it is trying new things, discovering new places, or enjoying simple activities at home. We have dedicated ourselves to building a family filled with laughter, love and happiness. Brad’s job provides a great deal of flexibility. He is able to work from home, allowing him to end his workday at 3:30 p.m. This early schedule and no commute free up extra hours that he is able to spend with the family. Being a stay-at-home mom allows Eileen to dedicate a great deal of time to our daughter every day. We feel very fortunate to be able to devote so much time to our family and will appreciate having that time even more as our family grows.

Our Life Priorities

Family. Family is where you learn how to laugh and love, how to share, and how to treat other people. Family is where you learn to appreciate and honor differences. It is a safe place to make mistakes, thereby developing the skills of understanding, empathy, and forgiveness. Family is where you learn how to love unconditionally. We are very child-focused in how we decide to spend our time and energy. We love encouraging our daughter’s current interests. A family hike means walking at our daughter's pace, taking in all the surroundings, exploring nature by pursuing her interests, whether that be a stick she has found or inspecting tracks in the mud to see if we can find the animal that made them. As parents, we feel it is important to join a child in exploring the world, running through the fields, climbing trees, collecting rocks, jumping in puddles, and playing in the mud. Our family is centered on enjoying every moment we have together, whether it’s a game of tag, jumping in a pile of leaves, riding our bikes, having a picnic, or cooking together. We believe that through sharing in these simple joys, we have built a unique and irreplaceable connection with our daughter. It is through these strong connections that we are building a lifetime of happy memories.

Our House and Neighborhood

The House We Call Home

We have a bright, cozy 4-bedroom split-level home with a unique open layout and large windows allowing in lots of natural light. Our backyard is fenced in with plenty of open space to run and play and enjoy time outside as a family.

We live in a quiet, residential neighborhood in Minnesota, on a hillside overlooking a beautiful park and lake. The park provides walking and biking trails, wooded areas, a pond and a nature center giving us access to many kinds of wildlife. There are two new playgrounds on either side of the lake, and an amphitheater where we enjoy concerts, plays, and other activities.

In our neighborhood you can frequently see children playing in their yards and riding bikes. One of our neighbors hosts backyard family movie nights in the summer and the children delight in an outdoor movie experience. On the fourth of July there is a big celebration in the park with family-friendly activities and musical entertainment. That evening many of the families gather in a neighbor’s yard, where the children play and everyone watches the fireworks display over the lake. On Halloween another family has a bonfire and hot apple cider waiting for neighborhood families after trick or treating.

Living in a peaceful community just outside of the twin cities, we feel we have the best of both worlds, close to state parks, nature centers, zoos, and lakes. Easy city access adds many wonderful libraries, city parks, children’s theaters, science and art museums, sporting venues, restaurants, and ethnic festivals that offer many diverse cultural experiences. Education has always been an important focus for us and our home is located just a mile from a top-rated K-8 school and high school.

Our Extended Families

Crafting With Grandma

Our extended family has always been extremely important to us. We grew up in the same hometown in Wisconsin, so we are able to spend quality time with both sides of the family whenever we visit. Our daughter Quinn looks forward to spending time with her grandparents, aunts and uncles and enjoys playing with her cousins, as well as making family trips to the zoo, swimming pool, children’s museum, and local petting farm.

Reading With Uncle John

Eileen’s brother-in-law plays a significant role in our lives. He lives just 10 minutes from us and we spend time with him regularly. He joins us for every holiday celebration as well as backyard cookouts, family hikes, and our yearly trip to the pumpkin patch. Whether they are kicking a soccer ball around the yard, drawing pictures, or telling stories, Quinn’s uncle John is one of her favorite people.

Recently we have started to take a spring vacation in Florida, where Eileen’s parents spend the winter/spring months. We enjoy beach and pool time with Eileen’s mom and dad and Quinn adores their undivided attention and her special time with grandma and “bumpa.” She loves building sandcastles, finding seashells, and jumping in the waves with bumpa, swimming in the pool, and eating lunch on the condo balcony with grandma as they search for manatees and dolphins playing in the Indian River below.

From Us to You

Adoption is a bond that ties two families together. We believe that considering adoption for your baby is an act of love, valiant and courageous. We honor you in this complex process and hope to establish a meaningful, lifelong relationship with you. This could be the start of an incredible story, where our lives meet and together we begin a brand new chapter. Through this letter, our profile, and family video we hope to provide you with an open and honest look into our family and the life we will offer to another child. We are ready to open our hearts and lives to you and your baby.

We have been together as a couple for 13 years, married in 2006. However, our story actually began in high school when we were both cast in the musical Oliver. During this time we developed a close friendship but after graduation we went our separate ways. Our paths crossed again when we attended our 10-year high school reunion. We spent the evening reminiscing about our high school days. We felt an immediate connection and were surprised to discover that we were both living in Minnesota just minutes from one another. We began dating, sharing our hopes and dreams, and building a loving relationship based on friendship and mutual respect. Our life together has been a great journey presenting us with many joys and challenges, teaching us to laugh often, love openly and honestly, and value every precious moment together.

Our dream to become parents came true when we welcomed our daughter Quinn in 2011. She has filled our lives with more happiness than we could ever have imagined. We enjoy the time we share laughing, being silly, playing, exploring nature, making crafts, snuggling up with a favorite book, and giving and receiving extra hugs and cuddles. We are proud to see the thoughtful and caring person Quinn is becoming. Quinn is so very excited over the prospect of becoming a big sister. While we love our little family, we have always envisioned a larger family and are eager to welcome another child into our lives. We are looking forward to showering another child with unconditional love, understanding, patience, and support, providing them with enriching experiences and amazing opportunities.

Adoption has always been part of our lives. Eileen was adopted as an infant and was raised in a family with both adopted and biological children. When we discovered that we would be unable to conceive again due to infertility issues, adoption seemed the natural next step. We had talked about adoption years ago when we first discussed having a family and both believed that someday adoption would be a beautiful way to grow our family. We look forward to welcoming another child through adoption and we know we will love this child with all our hearts.

We are supportive of open adoption and are eager to work together to create a plan that will honor and respect the level of openness you choose for yourself, your family, and your child. We will happily exchange photos, letters, and emails as well as set up a special website or Facebook page to share pictures, milestones and other significant updates. If more contact is right for all involved we would be open to exploring those options as well. Please know that whatever you choose we will honor and respect your wishes.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We hope we have given you a sense of who we are. If you are interested in learning more, we would love the opportunity to share more of our lives with you. As you consider the future for your child, we hope that you will find what you desire. Whatever your decision, we wish you peace and happiness.

With Loving Kindness,

Brad & Eileen
