Jared & Allyson

We have been preparing to adopt children since the day we met and are so excited that the opportunity is finally here! We are looking forward to sharing a life of travel and laughter and food and family with the child who comes into our life. It is an honor you are reading our profile and we hope you see the love and the joy we have for life and each other.

What Made Us Who we are Today

Our Little Family

As a teenager, Allyson suffered debilitating pain that no one could diagnose. At the same time, her family decided to live and travel in a motor home. As they traveled the country, seeing historic sites, meeting new people, and exploring new places, she also went to new doctors, hoping for a diagnosis. She was finally diagnosed with endometriosis. At 24, she had to have an emergency hysterectomy to save her life. All of the pain and struggles she faced, combined with her love of travel, cemented in her a fierce determination to never let circumstances prevent her from achieving her goals and from experiencing the joy life has to offer.

Jared says that being raised in a large family, as well as his beliefs, have made him who he is. His family of seven moved around quite a bit, usually in Utah, as his father’s employer transferred him, or when changing employment. Jared learned to work hard at a young age, earning money by mowing lawns and selling baked goods around his neighborhood. As a 17-year-old high school senior, he enlisted in the Army Reserves. After serving a mission for our church, he finished college and was commissioned as an officer in the US Army. Since then, he has lived all over the world, and continues working hard at everything he does.

Cultural Diversity

Allyson grew up in California, Chicago, Miami, Arizona, and Maine. She learned Spanish in Miami, Russian in Chicago, and French in Maine. Including people from other cultures in her life has always come naturally. Jared’s job has given him the opportunity to travel around the world, making friends and learning about so many other cultures. As a family, we embrace the cultures of each of the places we travel, buying artwork, eating local foods, learning languages, and making friends everywhere we go. Our home is a hodgepodge, with papyrus scrolls from Egypt interspersed with family photos on the walls, Chinese ceramics on bookcases, next to Greek sculptures, and Hawaiian wood carvings. As a librarian, Allyson has collected books on every culture and era, and focuses on providing multi-cultural materials in every library she works in. We believe it’s vital for a child of ours to learn about and appreciate not only their own native culture, but the cultures of others.

Education We will Provide

So Happy Together

We both believe education is incredibly important and plan to encourage our children to complete as much education as they can in order to succeed in the field of their choice. However, while we both have Master’s degrees and will encourage our children to strive academically, we recognize that not every person needs to have an advanced degree. As an educator, Allyson firmly believes that a four-year college degree is not for everyone, but that everyone should choose a profession that will enable them to provide for their families, contribute to society, and provide a sense of accomplishment in their daily lives. Whether that’s being a doctor, lawyer, plumber, electrician, or chef, going to a trade school, serving an apprenticeship, or going to med school, that’s up to them. We will provide the encouragement and support they need, and help our child get whatever schooling necessary for them to be their best self and lead a happy, productive life.

Our Extended Families

Allyson & Her Mom

Both of our families are scattered across the US but we are very lucky to currently have one of Jared's brothers living an hour away. This means we get to see our nieces and nephews every weekend! Each of us has four siblings - three brothers and one sister. Jared's family gets together at least once a year to celebrate family events. Most of them live in Utah, so they see each other more often. Allyson's family is stretched out across the US, so they get together less frequently but keep in contact through frequent group texts and emails. Of course, we also use Facebook to keep tabs on all of the nieces and nephews. All of our brothers and sisters have children - 30 total!

Playing with Nieces & Nephews

When we are able to get together with our families, one of our favorite things is to play games and cook together. Whether its paintball with all the big kids, baking desserts and playing card games with the teens, or pushing the little ones on the swing set, there is always something happening. When we first got married, Allyson made sure to start collecting games of our own to play with friends and family who came to visit.

Both of our families are excited about us adopting, but especially Allyson's; her oldest brother is adopted and has expressed his desire to help however he can with his future niece or nephew! Everyone is looking forward to welcoming the newest member of the family.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Each of us lived in a quite a few different places before we met and, once we were married, we almost immediately moved to Germany. We just moved from Germany to Western Texas, in a quiet little cul-de-sac on the North-East side of a medium-sized city. We love our little house because it has typical southwest character: full of light, with cool places to escape the heat, shaded by roses and a fig tree in the backyard. We spend most of our time in our family room, reading or on the computer, and just enjoying being together. Allyson loves to work in the craft room/guest room as well, where she's set up both a workbench for her metal-smithing and jewelry making, and a desk for paper crafting. Jared loves to go hiking in the mountains, hanging out and working on his own projects.

Although we haven't been in our house long, we have already established a wonderful support structure. That's partly due to the fact that Jared's brother, with wife and FIVE kids, lives barely an hour away. We spend many weekends with them: playing with the kids at the splash pads or the park, swimming, going out on double-dates, or playing games together as a family. We are also blessed to have an incredible church group. As Mormons, everywhere we go, we have a built-in church family, and we are always active members of our local congregation.

From Us to You

Our names are Jared and Allyson, and we thank you for taking the time to read this letter. We know that you are facing one of the toughest decisions you will ever make, and we are grateful that you would consider us to raise your precious child. Even though we have never met, we are praying for you and the journey you have ahead.

We empathize with you as you experience difficult emotions and make important choices that will affect the life of your child. Although our life experiences are not the same as yours, we have both lived through tough times and come out better people. Our greatest ambition is to create a family that loves and respects one another. We understand that this choice will be a great sacrifice, made by you to ensure your child is loved, cherished, and provided with unlimited opportunities. We have been married for three years now and have been planning for this moment, for this child, the entire time.

Due to Jared’s employment, we have been privileged to travel the world. We have seen many great things and experienced diverse cultures. However, no matter where we have traveled we have found that happiness comes from our family relationships. As faithful members of our church, we believe that families are central to happiness in life. This child, your child and ours, will be a part of a faithful family. They will grow up surrounded by joy and laughter, music and books, animals and open spaces. We both have been greatly blessed with parents who love each other and have sacrificed for us. And we both have siblings with many children. We often spend our holidays with these extended families. Our nieces and nephews are each other’s best friends. Even more importantly, all of us adults enjoy each other's company, too. Your child will be welcomed with open arms and loved by all his or her aunties, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

We love hiking together several times a week and are looking forward to continuing to do that with our child. Allyson’s dad was always teaching her and her siblings about the natural world, so she’s excited to share that same interest in animals, plants, and minerals. Plus, we each have a family tradition of making cinnamon rolls! Even though we both think our way of making it is the best, the fact is that it’s the experience of being together, playing together, and even competing together, that is important to us as a family. Our hope is that this child will grow up surrounded by love, by adventure, and by family.

We hope that by sending you letters and pictures of your child as he/she grows that you will feel comforted and peaceful about your decision as life progresses. Like you, we look forward to discovering the talents your child has been blessed with. Will he or she be an athlete? A dancer? Talented in music? Or will he or she be more interested in subjects like math or science? No matter what they express interest in, we will support him/her in pursuing these interests.

Thank you for reading this letter and considering our family as a home for your child. We respect you for your willingness give your child to another family to raise. It is a noble and selfless choice. Both you and your child will be blessed for this decision. Should you choose our family to raise your child, we will always teach them to love and respect you for the great sacrifice you have made for them, to ensure their own future happiness. Best Wishes and God Bless You.

Gratefully yours,

Jared & Allyson
