George & Moira
We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about us! If we have done our job well, you will get a glimpse into our lives filled with loud laughter, family dinners, dog hair, faith and robust love. You must have so much to think about right now but we want you to know we cherish you and your baby.
Since we are very proud of our Irish heritage, we like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. We quite enjoy going to our neighborhood St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We even entered a float and marched in the parade this year. Moira drove our Jeep and George followed along behind with a friend and handed out beads to the crowd. We even brought our dog, Eli, along.
We also host Easter dinner at our house, inviting family and friends over for a feast of ham, lamb and wonderful desserts. We also host Christmas Eve. Even though it can be quite cold at Christmas time, we leave the front door open in accord with an old Irish tradition that while the Holy Family could not find a place to stay on the first Christmas Eve, everyone is welcome into our house on Christmas Eve. We invite family, friends and people who otherwise would be alone for Christmas for holiday cheer and togetherness.
Favorite Vacation Spot
There are two vacation spots that we truly enjoy getting away to. One is County Kerry in the southwest part of Ireland where there is a family farm to visit as well as many, many relatives to see. We love the beauty of the country and the tremendous Irish hospitality. The people are warm, witty and kind and the land is green and fragrant. George loves to work with the cattle and see old friends he has known since childhood. Moira likes catching up with family and seeing more of the Irish countryside each time we visit.
Fredericksburg, Texas is another place where we love to get away. It is a small historic town in the Texas Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio. It is a charming community with fun dance halls, great BBQ and wonderfully friendly people. We love going down there for 3-4 days at a time and just relaxing in the slower pace of Fredericksburg. The town is quite picturesque and offers a lot in the way of great restaurants and family friendly entertainment. We also take drives out to the other appealing small towns in the Hill Country and do a bit of antique shopping while sightseeing. We often discuss the idea of a vacation home in Fredericksburg in our future.
Education We will Provide
We both know and cherish the value of a good education. We were both fortunate to attend Catholic schools and we would like to see our child attend Catholic schools as well. Our child will receive not only a good education but a good example and proper moral formation and faith tradition. We also intend to provide a college education. Since George has a Law degree and Moira is working on her Master’s in Business Administration, we would certainly support our child in post-graduate endeavors if he or she wants. We also want our child to be well-rounded and able to experience the world firsthand through travel, sports involvement and cultural events. First and foremost, we want to be our child to be happy and able to look at the world through interested and engaged eyes.
Our Extended Families
We have strong relationships with our families and make sharing our lives with them a priority. Both of us are close to our parents and still look to them as examples of remarkable love for family. George’s side of the family lives within ten minutes of us and we frequently see them for Sunday dinners, birthday parties, or just stopping by for a cup of tea. Moira’s side of the family is back in Texas and we make it a priority to visit them several times a year. They are also a big part of our lives and could not be more supportive of adoption. We have 11 nieces and nephews who are constant reminders as to why we want to be parents and they are so very excited to meet our new family member when he or she arrives. We alternate Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays between our two families and always host Easter. We always include parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, and sometimes fellow lacrosse players from my nephew’s college!
We also have a great group of friends who are like family to us and have been so enthusiastic in their support for us to grow our family. Most of them have children of their own and we have a great time sharing in their joy. We regularly attend sports, fundraisers, and music concerts to support their children’s activities and we love it.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a wonderful neighborhood that is within a large city but has a charming suburban feel to it. Our street is filled with large, gorgeous trees and all single family homes with residents of all ages. We have many families with young children as well as some retirees who love seeing the kids. It is the sort of neighborhood where everyone says “good morning” or “hello” when out walking the dog. In the summertime, it is common to see a block party on a Saturday and all the families and neighbors out having a great time. During Halloween and the holiday season, the houses in our area are all decked out with bright, creative and festive displays. Ours is one of the neighborhoods people bring their children to for the good trick or treating and we love it. We have regular neighborhood music festivals and farmers markets within a 2 mile radius of our home. There are several wonderful parks near us with fantastic play equipment and water sprays during the summer.
We live in a comfortable 4 bedroom and 3 bath split level home with a basement that will make a great playroom for those cold winter days inside. We have a cozy back patio and garden area on which we love hosting BBQs and shrimp boils. Our favorite room is the kitchen as it always feels like the heart of the home.
From Us to You
We want to tell you that you and your baby are loved. Even these words seem inadequate in the face of the decisions you have ahead of you, so please know we are thankful you are reading our profile. That you have taken the time and energy to search for the best future your child can have makes you a wonderful parent. Regardless of what you decide, you are a remarkable parent. You are taking a brave step into the unknown. We celebrate you and love you for doing so.
We have known each other for almost a decade. We met at the World’s Largest Block Party in Chicago and found appealing qualities in each other because of our sharp wits and similar senses of humor. We were friends initially for about five years. Once we started dating, we were engaged within 5 months! We had a beautiful wedding surrounded by our closest family and friends and we recently celebrated four wonderful years together. We have a cheerful house filled with laughter and love.
We knew that we wanted to start a family right away but time and biology conspired against us. We both agree that every child is a gift from God. While we had discussed adoption, we did not begin in earnest until we discovered that God had that plan for us all along. Since then, we have been taking classes and readying our home for our new bundle of joy.
George is an attorney who practices real estate law and builds houses. Moira runs an online business from home. Moira looks forward to being a stay-at-home mom while George looks forward to have someone to take out to the jobsite with him after school and on Saturdays. We both like to travel, having been to Spain, Argentina and Brazil in last year and a half. George still has family in Ireland and we go to visit them somewhat regularly at the family’s farm.
We want you to know that we will surround your child with love and affection. We will provide him or her with a safe and stable environment and the opportunity for a great education, whatever he or she decides to pursue academically. We live in a large metropolitan area. We will take advantage of the cultural and social opportunities our city has to offer. Our child will have the chance to attend museums, music fests, concerts in beautiful city parks as well as fun days and nights at baseball and hockey games. Moira is a library fanatic and cannot wait to participate in “Mommy and Me” reading circles. We have so many things to share with our child; whether it be family barbecues, vacations to Ireland or Fourth of July celebrations.
We will be very open about telling our child that he or she was adopted. We will let him or her know what a wonderful gift they are to us and that we love them even more for it because he or she was gifted to us. We look forward to sharing letters and pictures of the baby’s milestones, progress and accomplishments with you.
We are very eager to open our hearts and our home to the newest member of our family. We know it will not be possible if not for the remarkable strength of someone like you.
With great love and joy,
George & Moira
