Our Lifestyle

Anxiously Waiting to Grow Our Family

Our lifestyle is very much "work hard, play harder." During the week we both work full time. We are blessed with flexible work hours so we can be home when needed. In our leisure time Ashley can likely be found in the garden checking her plants, or out berry picking with Sophia around the farm. She loves to make homemade jam, freeze vegetables and can pickles all from the garden. Russ is a "tinkerer" and loves to tinker with the antique tractors we have to get them running. Russ also loves to play catch with Sophia and help her improve her softball skills. In Sophia's downtime she can be found playing with the animals or reading a book. Over the spring and summer we like to go fishing, take family trips to the lake or up north to Ashley's aunt's cabin. During the winter season our favorite activity is to jump on the snowmobiles and go riding around the farm. We also enjoy a good ol' family game night with a variety of board, dice or card games, which can sometimes end up being an intense game of UNO.

We love taking family outings to different festivals and weekend cabin trips. We try to plan at least one big family trip every other year. We have gone to places like: Orange Beach, Alabama, Texas to visit family, Disney World, the Florida Gulf and San Diego, California.

We are excited to be growing our family and can't wait to share these life travels and experiences with another child.

Our Family Traditions

Painting Our Pumpkins

We have so many great family traditions! We love getting family together for Sunday dinners and during the holidays throughout the year. Some of our favorite traditions are:

Fourth of July - We host a huge 4th of July party on the farm with lots of family, friends and neighbors. We grill and everyone brings something to share. There are kids and adults everywhere playing games and catching up. One year during our party we had 2 hot air balloons from the X-games land in one of our hay fields. They were doing some kind of promotional flight, needed a place to land and randomly had selected our property. The kids thought it was so cool and the "balloon pilots" let everyone go up in the hot air balloons. In the evening we go for a hay ride and all the dads put on a wonderful firework show. After the fireworks we wind down the evening with a bonfire and s'mores.

Halloween - We host a pumpkin carving party every October. We'll set up tables for painting and carving pumpkins, then at the end of the evening we will light them so the kids can see their wonderful creations. There is always lots of food and fun to be had.

Thanksgiving - We usual spend with Ashley's step dad's side of the family. There is always a full variety of foods, games, music and laughter. With so many aunts, uncles, cousins children there is always a good time to be had.

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Home

We live in a rural area just outside of a major city suburb. We really get the best of both worlds! Great country living, with a 10-minute drive to the city. Our home is newly built on our family's 160-acre farm. We have five bedrooms, a large kitchen and dining room for family gatherings, with a second living room and playroom downstairs.

    A Rainbow Over Our Barn

We have a large yard with a variety of fruit trees, a trampoline and a playset. There is lots of space to run, play and explore around the property. Our home is filled with life, love and laughter daily. Your child would grow up on the farm with lots of baby animals like kittens, cows, goats, chickens, and pigs if Ashley can get Russ to agree to it ;) Lots of cousins and grandparents who are only 1/2 mile down the road. The family farm is our little slice of heaven on earth. It's so full of wildlife and nature with amazing views year round.

Living on a family farm has been a huge blessing. Every day offers a new adventure and having so much family nearby is amazing!

There are also many great parks, and community festivals near us. We try to visit different ones whenever we can. We love to visit the farmers market, the zoo, children's and science museums, water parks and splash pads, and the county fair grounds. We are looking forward to new adventures with this child.

    Our Extended Families

    Russ' Family

Ashley comes from a large blended family with two sisters, two step-sisters and one brother. Russ comes from a smaller, close knit farm family with one brother, and lots of very close cousins. We are very blessed to have Ashley's families live close by and to have Russ' parents, grandparents and brother all live on the family's farm by us. We do weekly meals with Russ' family at his parents' house and love spending time together as a family. One of our favorite family traditions is the county fair. This time of year is filled with all of the cousins bringing their kids into town and spending the whole week at the fair eating all kinds of delicious foods, going on rides, playing games, and watching all of the 4-H animal shows. Our family is unique in that we have them all right there with us on the family farm. We enjoy spending as much time outside together as we can. Our families were thrilled to hear that we were hoping to adopt a child and can't wait to welcome a new baby into the family.

    From Us to You

We are Russ, Ashley and Sophia! Thank you for taking a moment to get to know us a little better. Words cannot even come close to expressing the admiration we have for you, the selfless decision you are considering making, and the gratitude we have that you would consider us as parents for this child.

We truly are each other's best friend and love the life we have built together. We have been together for nine years, married for seven. We were introduced to each other by Ashley's friend who just so happened to be Russ' cousin. Ashley was a single mom at the time, with Sophia being an infant. Growing our family has always been a dream of ours. After finding out that Russ was infertile, we knew adoption was the way we were meant to grow our family. We have an incredible support system around us that is overjoyed about adding another child to the family. Your child will always be surrounded by immediate and extended family members that will love and spoil them unconditionally. Sophia will be an incredibly loving and caring big sister. When we told her we were adopting, she said she can't wait to meet her new sibling so she will have a best friend for life.

Russ is an amazing father, uncle and godfather to all of the kids in our lives. He is the first one to get out and play with them, teach them something new whenever the opportunity arises and do silly things to make them laugh. Once when Sophia was little, she was riding a stick pony around the yard, tripped and scraped her knee. She was so upset, so Russ got on the stick pony rode it around a little and flung himself into the air so he fell too. He told Sophia she had to get a new stick pony because that one bucked so much, even he couldn't ride it! He loves any opportunity to create lifelong memories enjoys teaching Sophia about duck hunting and snowmobiling.

Ashley is the more social butterfly of the family. She loves to invite friends and family over with their kids for a day of food, catching up and enjoying watching the littles play outside. She enjoys being outdoors with Russ and Sophia whenever possible doing things like snowmobiling, gardening, caring for our farm animals and cheering Sophia on during her softball games.

We are overjoyed to be adding another child to our family! We promise to love and support them through all of life's adventures, encourage them to try new things, and help them be the best versions of themselves they can possibly be. We would be happy to share with you updates as your child grows into this incredible human being.

Even though we haven't met yet, we have an incredible amount of love and respect for you and the decision you are considering for your child. Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile as you search for the right family for you and your child.
