JD & Sabrina
Becoming parents has been the biggest blessing in our lives! We are so excited to open our hearts, our home, and our resources to another child through adoption! Thank you for choosing to get to know our family a little better. It is our hope it will give you an idea of who we are and what is important to us.
Sabrina is a licensed Veterinary Technician turned stay-at-home mom. While she loves animals and loved her previous job, being a mom is her favorite, most fulfilling job yet! Getting to be present for all the big and small milestones means the world to her.
JD owns and operates a successful oilfield company he has built from the ground up. He likes that every day is different and that he gets to use his problem solving skills to resolve all the challenges that come up. His company is active in the community sponsoring many local organizations such as the High School rodeo team. This past summer he provided employees and equipment to help clean up after a devastating hail storm hit our community. Being his own boss allows him to take time for family. We also raise cattle and JD calls his chores his therapy, he loves to be outside hauling hay, fixing fence or checking cows on horseback.
Our Children, Paizley & Hugh
God has blessed us with two biological children who cannot wait to become a big Sister and big Brother! They have both been telling us all the things they want to teach their new baby sister or brother.
Our daughter is 7 years old and in the first grade. She is spunky and full of energy. She has a kind heart and is compassionate towards those she loves. She is a born leader and loves to organize games and activities for her brother and friends. Currently she loves school, playing Barbies, taking piano lessons, running, and riding bike.
Our youngest son is 3 1/2 years old. He is our little snuggle bug and is always ready to give or receive a hug or kiss. His sense of humor keeps us laughing all the time! His favorite things right now are stick forts, building with his magnet blocks, making crafts out of paper and playing with his barn kitties.
We love helping them try different activities and seeing which ones spark their interests! We look forward to trying new things and exploring new interests with another child.
No matter what language, race or faith family always comes first to us. JD's ethnicity is mostly Irish and German, while Sabrina's is German and Norwegian. Both of us are extremely proud of who and where we came from and know a lot about our ancestors. We nurture that in our children and will make sure our adopted child feels the same about his or her ethnicity as well. We will welcome any information about cultural traditions or family history from you. We promise to be open and honest about issues related to any of our race or ethnic differences as well as seek out mentors of similar heritage for our child and our family. We have developed relationships with other adoptive families within our community and will continue to grow our support network. We look forward to learning more about our child's heritage and incorporating new traditions into our family.
Our Extended Families
Sabrina's parents (Papa Rod and Grandma Brenda) live 3 hours away and we see them at least once a month. They are such amazing grandparents and are very involved in our children's lives. It has become a family tradition to take the kids to their county fair and swimming lessons every summer. Last summer they bought a tent just so they could camp out in the backyard while the kids were visiting! You can find them in the stands at every school / church program, kindergarten graduations, dance recital and sport event. . Sabrina grew up very close to her aunts, uncles and cousins and we still remain close and see each other often.
JD's parents live on the same ranch as us so we see them almost every day! They are also very hands on grandparents. Grandma Tracey loves to have the kids help her in her garden and Papa Bob builds box forts with the kids and is always ready to drop what he's doing to come see a fort they made or find a jar to help them catch lady bugs. JD has 2 younger brothers who visit often. JD also grew up close to his extended family. His Grandparents love to host big holiday dinners. His Grandpa Oscar even pretends he's Santa every Christmas for the little ones.
Our House and Neighborhood
We are so fortunate to raise our family on the same ranch both JD and his dad grew up on! Our home overlooks the beautiful North Dakota badlands. It is so important to us that our kids can run out the front door and have wide open spaces to play, race their bikes, use their imagination, ride their ponies, build tree forts, chase butterflies, catch frogs and explore! We share our ranch with 2 dogs (Patrick and Rudy), barn cats, horses and cows.
Our home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen with a big dining room table where we eat dinner together every night, and a cozy living room with oversize furniture perfect for snuggling up with a book, or having family movie nights. The large deck on the front and fire pit gives us plenty of room to host friends for bbq's and bonfires complete with s'mores.
Our community is small yet progressive and has a wonderful school system where our daughter is in 1st grade. The community recently added a new indoor pool, ice skating rink, baseball field, basketball courts, skate park and bike path. We also have a wonderful park that hosts community picnics, an Easter egg hunt and is a perfect shady spot to watch the annual Fourth of July parade. The Church we attend has many young families and we enjoy spending time with our church family and teaching Sunday School.
From Us to You
What a strange way to meet....through a letter! We hope through our words you will feel and be able to envision the love and life we would provide your child if you choose an adoption plan. Whatever decision you make we want to thank you for getting to know us better.
We met in college- JD was on the rodeo team and Sabrina on the horse show team. Our first date was Valentine's Day and five years later we were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the ranch we now call home ( it's a family tradition to be married on the ranch). Six years and 2 kids later we are ready and very excited to add to our family through adoption. We have chosen adoption to complete our family because Sabrina has experienced pre-term labor with both pregnancies and we feel strongly it wouldn't be safe to add to our family in that way again.
Raising our family on the ranch surrounded by beautiful scenery and fresh air was a decision we made purposefully. Both of us grew up in the country and it has contributed to who we are today. There is never a dull moment at our house and always plenty to do. The opportunity it gives us to play and work as a family just can't be beat! Our community is full of neighbors and friends many who have lived here for generations and would do anything they could to help and support each other.
We have many hopes and dreams for our children but ultimately they must follow their own hearts and dreams. Because of this we value education, and will encourage their interests and provide experiences so they can develop their strengths and reach their full potential. Success to us means being caring, responsible, and productive members of their community.
We imagine you would like to know what we will tell your child about their birth story. We want them to know all about their beautiful unique story! Our child will not remember a time they didn't know they were adopted. We will talk openly about how they were surrounded by love from the very beginning and through your selfless love you chose us to be their parents so that they might have the kind of life you dreamed for them. We would like to exchange letters and pictures to share your child's growth and experiences with you, and hope you are open to that as well.
As you make the important decision of who will parent your child we want you to know we are a loving and committed couple who value our marriage, children and being parents above everything else. Our family is ready to welcome and love your child with all our hearts!
You must have so many questions about us! Hopefully our letter, profile and video have answered some of them for you. We would love to get to know you better if you choose, but above all we wish you and your baby the very best.
