Paul & Jennifer
Thank you for reading our profile and considering us as potential adoptive parents. We are so excited to be on this journey towards completing our family through adoption. We know that adoption is a gift and we promise to provide unconditional love and support to your child.
Our Promise to You
We cannot begin to explain how thankful we are that you may choose us to raise your baby. These are our promises to you:
Our Leisure Time
Leisure time is an important part of our day and both of us use the time as a way to decompress after a busy day at work. Sometimes it may just be taking the time to prepare a meal together after our work day, relax on the couch and watch our favorite TV shows or movie, other times we like to spend time outside just enjoying the spring/summer/fall weather.
Sports plays a big part in both of our lives - whether it is catching the latest game on TV or participating in one of the local amateur leagues every week - we both enjoy the outlet that playing and following team sports can bring. One of the things we most look forward too when we have a child is participating in their sports teams whether it is as a supporter or as a coach.
We are very lucky to live in a neighborhood that contains many parks, walkways and sports fields. During the warm summers months we like nothing more that to take a stroll in the evening around our neighborhood, catch up with neighbors at the park or just enjoy the peace and quiet in our back yard. Every year our neighborhood organizes a block party. We really look forward to sharing the food, fun games and kids activities on that day with our child.
One of the things we love to do together is hike and be out in nature. We would love to be able to share this passion with our child and introduce them to an amazing world outside of a TV or computer screen.
We are fortunate enough to come from two different cultural backgrounds. Jennifer's heritage is of a Portuguese/Indian living in the U.S., while Paul is originally from Ireland.
We met while Jennifer was living and working in Ireland, and moved back to the US in 2015. Having now lived in both the U.S. and Europe, we celebrate and uphold both unique cultures including some little traditions we picked up along the way on our travels.
We celebrate our own diversity by following traditional cultural foods, holidays and family. For St. Patrick's Day, we will make a traditional Irish breakfast while on Christmas eve we follow the Portuguese tradition of setting up the manager and crib followed by midnight mass and the American Thanksgiving and 4th of July. Our extended family also consists of different cultures of Mexican and Albanian heritage so we also are lucky enough to celebrate Dia de los Muertos and learn Albanian dances.
As a diverse couple, we understand some of the challenges that society places on families of different ethnicities. We choose to embrace and celebrate the diverse culture that make up our friends and family.
We look forward to the possibility of raising a child of a different culture, and help them navigate and celebrate where they are from and their own cultural traditions.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in Illinois, in a very safe suburb close to a major metropolitan area. Since we have moved to our house, we have become close with 6-8 young families, where we all get together for birthdays, 4th of July parties, neighborhood Christmas caroling and also the annual summer block party held in August. Your child will have many other children to play with, go to school with and make lasting friendships with. One of our neighbors has also recently adopted a baby into their family whom we are quite close with.
We live in a four bedroom home, with a large fenced in back garden. Our favorite place to hang out is the kitchen/family room, where we make dinner, bake cookies, host friends, and relax watching our favorite shows. In the summer, we use the back garden for BBQ's, and hanging with neighbors and their kids.
We are so lucky to have two playgrounds with monkey bars, swings, slides, and seesaws close to the house which are full with kids and moms from Spring to Fall. We also have tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts all within walking distance and are utilized often by all the neighbors. We have a large community swimming pool near to us which we use regularly in the summer months.
Our Extended Families
We are very fortunate to have a close knit family on both sides - Jennifer's family live just 10 minutes away while Paul's family live in Ireland but visit often.
All our family get-togethers involve lots of food, laughter and games. We love to host and have everyone over to our house. Birthdays, Thanksgiving, Mother's Day and Christmas are big events in our house.
One family tradition which we carry on is Thanksgiving, where parents, in-laws, siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family are invited to our house. Everyone brings a dish to share, it's an afternoon spent eating, sharing what we are thankful for followed by an evening of board games, football and family time.
Our family is unique in that we come from two different continents- Paul being European and Jennifer being American - and we incorporate traditions from both cultures into our daily lives. Your child will get to experience the best of both worlds.
Both sides of the family are incredibly supportive and excited for us to adopt a child as they know how much it means to us to add to our family.
From Us to You
Hello! Our names are Paul and Jennifer. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us as you read through our profile. We can't imagine how difficult this decision must be for you, however we promise to give your child a safe, stable nurturing and loving home.
Since we met, we've known that we wanted to start a family. Shortly after we were married, we struggled to conceive children biologically. After some time of self-reflection and faith, we knew that God had a plan for us through adoption. We are strongly committed to each other and to opening our hearts and sharing all of the love we have with your child.
We are very excited about the future, we have been married 8 years and have been together for over 10 years. We are very much in love and are each other's best friends and supporters. Paul works in information technology from our home office and enjoys playing competitive sports like basketball and soccer. He is very involved with nieces and nephews and encourages them to learn and explore and celebrate life.
Jennifer works in human resources in a sports nutrition firm, she enjoys working in a environment that encourages a healthy and positive lifestyle. Jennifer is nurturing and enjoys cooking and baking in her downtime. We are fortunate that our jobs allow us the flexibility of a work and life balance. We both lead a healthy lifestyle and enjoy being outdoors hiking, walking and just enjoying nature.
We very much look forward to sharing in many of the same activities we did as children such as family vacations, encouraging a child's interests and activities and watching them grow. Both our families are close knit and are extremely supportive of our decision to adopt and will be very involved in our lives as we raise a child.
For a future child, we value the importance of education, respect, and maintaining a strong work ethic. We are committed to encouraging their interests and hobbies but we will also ensure that they will develop their strengths and enable them to reach their potential as productive, caring and responsible adults.
We both have an appreciation for different cultures, and enjoy taking trips not to just have fun but also learn something new about the world. We encourage learning by visiting new places, experiencing new cultures in addition to a well rounded classroom education.
We look forward in the role you will play, whatever you chose for that to be. You are significant to our family and always be. We will share with you your child's growth and experiences through photos and letters and emails if desired. We will always be open and honest with a child in regards to adoption. We will make sure that your child knows how much you love them and how hard the decision was for you and you will always be reflected positively to them.
Family is everything to us. Being a part of our family means knowing that you are surrounded by love, support, acceptance, and time together. We are humbled and grateful that you would consider us as adoptive parents to your child.
