Ben & Michelle

Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile and for considering us. We are so excited about growing our family! Not being able to have our own children has been difficult but we are so grateful that we can adopt a child. Our hearts are already filled with so much love and excitement about the thought that someone like you could choose us to love and raise your child.

Cultural Diversity

Teaching in Africa

Michelle grew up with cousins who were African American, so an acceptance and desire to learn about diversity began at a young age. We both grew up with friends who are half Native-American and Filipino and they are still some of our closest friends to this day.

Our church allowed a Russian and Hispanic church to meet in our church's building and we loved the opportunities to share in activities together. One of Michelle's favorite memories was learning some special Russian recipes from one of the families.

We have recently spent the last couple years doing missions work in Africa teaching, building churches and helping the local church. We had the opportunity to live in France for one year to learn the French language as well as study the French culture.

We have loved having the opportunity to live and work in Africa and have enjoyed experiencing different cultures and traditions. We are open to having a blended family.

Family Traditions

Christmas Tree Farm

In our fourteen years of marriage we have enjoyed embracing traditions from our childhood as well as creating our own. We begin with fall and the days spent canning peaches, pears, pickles, green beans and pumpkin for the upcoming winter. Next comes the apple press where the whole family gathers bushels of apples to make fresh apple cider. We start the holidays heading out to the tree farm, looking for the perfect Christmas tree. Then we gather all the kids and adults building gingerbread houses, which often turns into a competition. We look forward to the Christmas Eve service at church, singing carols and hearing the Christmas story. Christmas day is spent with family opening presents, playing games and having a family meal. When spring arrives we are excited for the early morning clam digs at the beach and our trips to the local farmers market to find the perfect flowers for our yard. Summers are often spent camping with family, going out on the boat and BBQs with friends and family.

Discussing Adoption

Fall Apple Press

It's our plan to be open and honest about adoption with our child. Talking about adoption will help build our child's self-esteem, strengthen our families bond and fulfill our child's right to know. It's important for us to start telling our child's adoption story early while being sensitive to their developmental stages. We believe that this is not a one-time conversation but an on-going one. We understand that it is important to give as much information as our child can handle at that age in their life. We will always be open and honest with your child about how they came to be a part of our lives. Our child's adoption story is something that will be a special part of our family. We also believe that it is our responsibility to initiate this conversation. Just because our child isn't talking about their adoption story, doesn't mean they're not thinking about it. We will be sure to listen to their feelings behind any questions they may have. We want you to know that your love and sacrifice will not be forgotten. We will raise your baby with the knowledge of your love and share with you those precious moments through letters and pictures.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live on a quiet street just one block away from our city's beautiful Lake Sacajawea. There is a 3-mile trail around the lake where you will always find people exercising, fishing, canoeing and enjoying the playgrounds. Many community events are held at Lake Sacajawea during the summer months from the “go4th” parade and festival, a summer concert series and outdoor movies at the lake. Our closest neighbors are all retired but the rest of the street has families of all ages. Most kids walk to the nearby elementary, middle school and high school.

Our home is a charming 2-bedroom, 1.5-bath home built in the 1950's. Because of its age the house has a lot of character from its custom built-in cabinetry, ornate doorways and original hardwood floors. We have a large fenced backyard with an outdoor patio where we love to BBQ during the summer months while hanging out with friends and family. We enjoy spending time together in the kitchen cooking and often find ourselves relaxing in the family room while watching a movie. We have a tradition of having Friday night pizza and movie night that we can't wait to share with our growing family.

Our Extended Families

Michelle's Family

We both come from close-knit families who value quality time spent together. Since we grew up in the same town, both of our families live close to each other. One of our family traditions is a large 4th of July celebration with food, games and fireworks where over 100 family and friends gather from both sides of our families. We can't wait for the day for our child to grow up making memories with their cousins.

Ben has two brothers. Michelle has one brother. Together, we have 7 nieces and nephews and many cousins in our extended families. Michelle's family enjoys camping each summer, spending time boating, fishing, singing and roasting marshmallows around the campfire. Often times evenings are spent having family dinners and playing games. One of Ben's brothers lives in town and we enjoy spending time together at Ben's parents’ for family dinners, watching football and going on hikes. We enjoy going to the beach during the summer for family vacations. Ben's oldest brother lives in Oregon and we make the most of our time spent together over the holidays and summer vacations.

Both of our families are anxiously waiting for the day our family grows and for the opportunity to love this child.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and getting to know us a little better. We can't even begin to imagine what you're going through but we want you to know that as you're about to make one of the biggest decisions of your life, we count it a privilege to be someone you would consider to raise your child. We admire your courage to consider adoption and pray that as you make your selection, God will give you peace and comfort during this time. Life certainly has its challenges and doesn't always go according to plan. We have learned that despite the ups and downs of life there is peace in knowing that God has everything worked out for us and He gives us the desires of our hearts.

We have been married for 14 years but have considered each other as best friends since Jr. High. We have always dreamed of having a family of our own but early on in our marriage it became evident that we would not be able to have our children naturally. As we worked through that reality and discovered the blessing of adoption, our hearts were encouraged to know that our dreams to become parents could be a reality. The opportunity to adopt a child into our family has brought us closer together. We find ourselves talking about how exciting it will be to have a family of our own. It amazes us that someone like you could bless us with a precious life to love, protect, cherish and provide for. A very supportive family and group of friends that have journeyed through life with us are also eager to love this child.

We look forward to every aspect of parenthood and having a family. Ben's career has made it possible for Michelle to transition from teaching to becoming a stay-at-home mom. Each day will be a new adventure as we have the unique opportunity to live and work overseas at times. This allows us to experience other cultures, customs, languages, and people groups. We see these opportunities as a positive experience that most people will never enjoy. We hope to instill strong values and traditions and are so excited to watch our child explore life and discover what the world has to offer.

We know that you will never stop thinking about your child as they will forever be apart of who you are and that is why we want you to know that we will raise your child with the knowledge of your love. As your baby grows, we will make sure to send you pictures and letters to keep you updated on your child's growth, personality, life experiences and special moments that affect who they are as a person. We believe it's important for our child to know and embrace his/her adoption story. The story will be something we will appreciate, respect and celebrate through our lives. Our hope is you feel peace in knowing how much your child will be loved as we honor the wishes and dreams you have for him/her. We will always be grateful for the amazing way our family was created, by you and your incredibly loving decision.
