Nate & Katie
Thank you for taking the time to review our profile. We are an adventurous fun-loving couple that have been together for over five years. Even before we were married we knew that we wanted to grow our family through adoption. We truly appreciate your courage and selflessness in choosing the right family for your child. Thank you for considering us.
Favorite Vacation Spot
Our favorite vacation spot is the Gulf of Florida. Katie spent a significant amount of time on family vacations when she was younger and we find ourselves returning to Florida regularly as a getaway just for the two of us or as an extended family vacation.
The Gulf of Florida is teeming with wildlife from unique and exotic birds to a myriad of marine life which is hard to find anywhere else in the United States. It also has a feeling of island time allowing families to relax and enjoy the time they have together.
Most recently we vacationed to Sanibel Island with our extended family and our nephew. It was amazing to see the joy and wonder he experienced by seeing his first starfish, running around on the sandy beach, and jumping into the ocean’s surf and waves. We are very much looking forward to returning and being able to share these and other first experiences with this child as a member of our family.
Throughout our lives we have been blessed to experience a myriad of cultures through our work and travels. The underlying thread that we have seen is that no matter the country, language, or socio-economic background people are genuinely good and are trying to do the best that they can for their families, friends, and communities. We believe what is special about this world is that there are so many people who add their own uniqueness to our humanity. We take every opportunity to learn about, respect, and appreciate all walks of life. This is a theme that we will use to raise our children, and will be the basis for any questions or conversations that we will have with this child in regards to different cultures, races, or ethnicities. We also believe that every culture should be proud of their heritage and we intend to ensure that this child knows and understands the uniqueness and special heritage that is their own.
Why We Chose Adoption
Since before we were married we have known that we wanted to grow our family through adoption. Our intention was to pair our biological children with our adopted children. We attempted to have our own children but after an attempt of Invitro Fertilization we learned we are unable to have children. For some people this would be a devastating scenario. For us, it simply meant that we were meant to grow our family through adoption. Shortly after we received this information we began thoroughly researching adoption agencies and located American Adoptions. Which brings us where we are today and once again we wanted to thank you for taking the time to review our profile.
Our Extended Families
We both come from large close knit extended families. Nate has one brother and Katie has one sister. Most of our vacations are centered around visiting family and spending time with our three-year-old nephew. A typical night with our nephew ends with “Uncle Nate, let’s play cars!” And no trip home is complete without a mini family reunion, where we get to celebrate all the special events that occurred while we were in Puerto Rico.
Our families regularly come to visit us to enjoy “island life” filled with warm weather and sun! Both of our parents cannot wait to come and help babysit! Our families are very supportive of our decision to adopt and are excited to help us raise a new addition to the family. Nate has a great-grandmother who is very much looking forward to another great-grandchild.
Since we live farther away from our families than we would like, our friends are very important to us and truly are our second family. We are very lucky to be able to say that our friends are as integrated into our lives as our families and are just as excited to be a part of this child’s life.
Our House and Neighborhood
Though we both come from the Midwest, we have been living in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico for almost two years now. We live in a quiet community, with wide boulevards flanked with palm trees. Our community is diverse in both ages and ethnicities, from young families with children of all ages to retirees. Our neighborhood has a newly built community complex, which has tennis courts, a multi-purpose room, a basketball court, and two jungle gym sets that is a popular spot with the kids. It is common to see parents with their children biking, walking, or playing together in their yards. We have an elementary school within walking distance from our residence which a large number of the children in the neighborhood attend.
Our house sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful jungle area where we routinely see macaws and parakeets flying overhead. We have a large living room that opens to our backyard and patio, where we entertain our friends and family. Living just outside a major metropolitan city we are lucky to have a variety of cultural outlets that include science and art museums, an Olympic swimming pool, and the Historical City of Old San Juan. The best part of where were live is that only five minutes away we have a 600-acre ecological park containing gondolas, a bird sanctuary, and a butterfly house. We can’t wait to take our child there!
From Us to You
Hello! Our names are Katie and Nathan. Thank you for taking the time and considering our profile. We can only imagine the journey that you have gone through and understand that only a truly loving mother would be reviewing these profiles and choosing a couple to adopt their child. Beginning our family through adoption is not something that we have taken lightly either. We know that raising a child can and will at times be difficult, but we believe that it will be the most awe-inspiring and rewarding thing we can do. You can be assured that this child, with our guidance, will not lack in love, positive influences, role models, and a close-knit family.
A little bit about ourselves. Both of us work for the Federal Government and have for almost a decade now. We grew up in the Midwest and genuinely love the hospitality of Mid-westerners. Though neither of us worked in Massachusetts, we fortuitously met in Boston over six years ago during a work conference. Since before we were married we had talked about and have been looking forward to adopting. Over the years, we have grown in our love of each other and are looking forward to sharing that love with this child.
Some of the things that we really enjoy are traveling to new destinations and learning about new cultures. Know that your child will be in a home that values all cultures and believes that these differences are what makes us special. This passion of ours is what spurred us to take a job assignment for three years on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. This small island is full of diversity, having influences from Spain, Latin America, Africa, and England. We are so thankful to have been able to experience this together. We thoroughly enjoy all activities outdoors, from hiking, paddle boarding, running, kayaking, to bird watching and reading a good book on the beach. We cannot wait to share these passions with this child. When our assignment is complete in a little over a year we will be relocating permanently to Florida.
One question that you probably have for us is “What do they plan to tell my child about their adoption?” We have no intention of hiding the fact that they were adopted. We plan to openly talk with him or her about their adoption and would readily share any information about you with them if you consented. We firmly believe that honesty and openness about adoption dispels any misunderstandings about adoption. This child will know that you made a difficult decision that was based out of immense love for them. Your child will know that you investigated and found one of the highest quality adoption agencies and even more purposefully selected an adoptive family that you believe is the best fit for them. They will always know that their adoption plan was all about them and was about providing the best life for them.
We hope that after your review of our profile you have been provided some insight on what type of life your child would have with us. Know that we are committed to being parents and showing this child a life of love, happiness, and acceptance. We would happily share these experiences over the years via written communication and photographs through American Adoptions. Thank you again for reviewing our profile, listening to our story, and making this difficult decision.
With love and respect,
Nate & Katie
