Jacob & Carie
We are extremely grateful that you have taken the time to consider our profile. We truly admire the strength, courage, and compassion that have guided you to consider an adoption plan. We are eager to devote our lives to raising and nurturing a child. We would consider it our great honor to raise your child with love, honesty, humor, and kindness.
Adoption in Our Lives
We each grew up with several close friends who were adopted, so we were both exposed to adoption from an early age. Jacob's aunt and uncle adopted their newborn son Christopher when Jacob was 8 years old. Jacob is like a big brother to Christopher and we enjoy when Christopher comes to visit!
Jacob's Godparents also have a daughter who was adopted, and whom Jacob has known her whole life. We have enjoyed numerous family vacations and trips to Duke sporting events with her family over the years. She is getting married this year and we are so excited to meet her birth mother and other members of her birth family who will be coming to the wedding!
As we started the adoption process, we began talking to many families about their own unique adoption journeys. We are grateful for the opportunity to start our own amazing adoption journey and we look forward to sharing our experience with friends and family.
Our Leisure Time
In our free time, we enjoy being with family, cooking and entertaining, spending time outside, and going to the beach and mountains. We have been lucky enough to get to travel together a lot and have become amateur photographers. We particularly enjoy taking pictures of nature and the environment. We also enjoy attending Duke sporting events together and have even been to two Duke Football Bowl Games. We look forward to sharing our interests and adventures with our child.
Carie is the leader of a church ministry which is devoted to partnering with a farming village in Guatemala. Carie also enjoys planning an annual party for patients and families at the hospital where she works. This annual get together allows hundreds of patients and their families to have a fun day of games and food while celebrating their recovery.
Jacob has been a lifelong Duke fan and was even able to be in attendance for Duke Basketball's 2015 NCAA Championship. Besides watching Duke sports, Jacob enjoys playing golf with his brothers, working on cars, and volunteering in the community, along with coworkers and friends. Jacob also has an interest in fishing and hopes to learn to fly fish in the near future.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Carie About Jacob:
Jacob is my best friend, my hero, and my soulmate. From the minute I met Jacob I could tell he was one of the most caring and family oriented people I had ever met. Jacob is intelligent, funny, and kind. He takes time to take care of his family and is always willing to do anything to help me, our families, or even a neighbor in need. Jacob is an amazing and loving husband and I know he will make a wonderful father.
Jacob About Carie:
Carie is the most thoughtful, compassionate, and caring person that I know. She is dedicated to her family, her patients, and God. She is always willing to go out of her way to lend a helping hand to others, whether it be a family member or a complete stranger. As a pediatric nurse, she is attentive and comforting to her patients and their families. Her desire to help others is also evident by her leadership of a church mission to help the people of Guatemala. Carie's loving nature, natural maternal instinct, and vast pediatric nursing expertise will make her an amazing mother!
Our Extended Families
We place a great deal of importance on family, and our families play a crucial role in our daily lives. Most of our immediate family lives close by, and we spend many holidays and weekends visiting with family.
Much of Jacob's extended family live in the immediate area, including his parents, his two younger brothers, aunts and uncles, and 5 cousins, as well as several grandparents. We often go to Jacob's grandparents’ house for large family gatherings to celebrate birthdays and many holidays. Throughout the year we enjoy a wide variety of homemade specialties such as grandma's fried chicken, cornbread, rolls, and various homemade cakes and pies. Jacob's granddad also makes his own amazing ice cream and fudge.
Carie's mom and brother also live close by, and we often get together with them for dinner and other events. Every July 4th, we cookout and enjoy the neighborhood fireworks show at Carie's mom's house. Every Christmas, Jacob's grandma hosts Christmas lunch, and both our families go over to celebrate and exchange gifts. We also get together for Easter and Thanksgiving celebrations.
Both of our families are thrilled about our adoption opportunity, and are committed to help in any way that they can. In particular, both of our mothers are delighted about the prospect of being grandmothers!
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a two-bedroom townhouse in North Carolina. Our home is spacious and has a large living room and kitchen that provide a wonderful space for cooking meals, spending time as a family, and hosting events. Our second bedroom is on the same floor as the master and has its own attached bathroom with a bathtub. We feel that this will serve as the perfect setup for a nursery.
Our neighborhood is a tight-knit, quiet community where families take walks and ride bikes, have weekend gatherings around the fire pit, and an annual summer kick-off celebration. There are kids of all ages in our neighborhood that enjoy playing together and riding bikes on our private streets. We have access to a nearby community pool, many great parks, and modern and inviting playgrounds.
We live in central North Carolina, less than a three-hour drive to the beach and the mountains. Our family owns a mountain house that is a great vacation space complete with a pool, tennis courts, and access to a golf course. We love spending weekends at the mountain house enjoying hikes, gorgeous views, and time with family. We cannot wait for the opportunity to introduce and share our home and community with our child.
From Us to You
We want to personally thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our profile, and for considering us as potential adoptive parents for your child. Though we cannot even begin to comprehend your situation, we realize that this is one of the most difficult decisions that a mother can ever make, and we truly commend your courage and selflessness to consider your child's best interests and well-being above all else. We want to assure you that should you choose to place your child with our family, he or she will be loved, nurtured, and cared for unconditionally, and brought up surrounded by a loving family with nothing but his or her best interests at heart.
We met on Match.com in 2011 and almost instantly realized that we were best friends and soul-mates. We have been married for four and a half wonderful years and are excited about sharing the rest of our lives together with a child. We have a marriage based on a loving, caring, open and honest relationship, and we are the core of each other's support system. We have always known that we want to be parents, but have also known that, due to both of our past medical histories, we could not conceive a child naturally, and we are thrilled about the opportunity to become parents through adoption.
We live in a wonderful home and are blessed to have most of our extended family close by. We love to travel, hike, and spend time with our families. We also enjoy going to our local college team's football and basketball games and even have traveled to a few bowl games the football team has played in. We love to entertain and often have our family over for celebrations or just to share time together. We have a very close-knit family who are all eager to help us raise a child.
At this point in our lives, we are responsible, financially stable, and feel prepared for all the joys and challenges of raising a child. We are humbled and honored for the opportunity to raise a child and we plan to share our love, laughter and gifts with them. We plan to raise our child in a loving Christian household where the child feels open to exploring any interest or talent they may have, and provide opportunities to travel, explore, and learn, all with their safety and well-being as our primary concern. We have a wonderful support system of family and friends excited to participate in all the blessings of raising a child.
We will share your child's adoption story with them from the very beginning, and plan to share their life story with you. We plan to send regular pictures and letters to you, and we are also open to exchanging emails and phone numbers. We hope that seeing your child healthy, happy, and thriving will help to reassure you that you made the right decision.
Thank you for reading our story and considering us as an adoptive family for your child. We know that you love your child unconditionally and we want to assure you that should you choose us, your child's well-being and happiness will be the primary focus of our lives.
Thank you again for this opportunity,
Jacob & Carie
