Kevin & Maggie

We met at an Italian restaurant over plates of pasta and garlic bread, and it was love at first sight. We are an amazing team cooking in the kitchen (she measures and he chops!). We are working on our long-term goal of visiting every state park in Georgia with our dog. We cannot wait to raise our child in a home full of good food, good stories and lots of laughter.

Our Leisure Time

Walking in Paris

We love to cook, often using vegetables from our garden and from local farms! Kevin is the baker and traditionalist and will cook Italian food any chance he can get. Maggie is the adventurer who loves to cook Indian, Thai, and Chinese food. Our house always smells amazing! Be it an all day cooking marathon or a quick weeknight meal, we will always play some great music (preferably R&B/Soul) and come together as a team to make something tasty. We love having friends and family over to share stories, food and laughter as we cook and listen to music. We are looking forward to sharing these wonderful times and everything we mix up with our child!

We like traveling to cities and exploring their unique neighborhoods and cultural amenities. We also enjoy getting out of the city to experience nature. For birthdays and anniversaries, we like to surprise one another with a getaway to a place we have never been to before. We can’t wait to be able to explore the rest of the world and see the great outdoors through the eyes of our child!

What it Means to be Parents

Our Little Family

We believe that being a parent is one of the most important roles in life. Being parents will be a grand adventure in which we will experience new emotions, move beyond our self-imposed limits, and immerse ourselves in the world of wonder and exploration within our child. We anticipate that this journey will be challenging yet so rewarding. With the loss of sleep and the switching to our child’s time schedule comes the gain of loving, caring for, and teaching a little being who is new to this world. We think that we tend to get wrapped up in little things when we are solely focused on ourselves. With a child, however, we will see the big picture and we will get to experience the world in a refreshingly different way through our child’s eyes. We want our child to feel unconditionally loved and to know that he or she always has a mother and father to whom they can talk to and be themselves with. We also look forward to being parents who are involved in and encouraging of our child’s interests and passions.

Cultural Diversity

We plan to attend cultural events and festivals that are specific to our child’s race and/or cultural background. Atlanta offers many spots to explore African American history and the civil rights movement, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site. It also has the largest concentration of historically black colleges in the country, and it offers several events including the Atlanta Jazz Festival and the National Black Arts Festival. We also plan to read with our child books on their race and/or cultural background. If our child shows particular interest in his ancestry, we plan to explore genealogy websites in order to trace his roots and create a many- branched family tree. We will seek groups in the area who are composed of transracial adoptive families and participate in activities and get-togethers.

Our Extended Families

Maggie's Parents

We are very fortunate to have so many of our friends and family who live close to us. Maggie is an only child and her parents still live here along with a great group of friends she has had since high school. Kevin is from New York where his two sisters and twin brother (and four nieces & nephews) still live but he has a great circle of friends in Georgia that he has known for 20 years.

Grandma and Her Grandkids

When combined, we have an amazingly large family in Georgia, with a total of 3 parents, 25 friends, and 18 nephews and nieces all within reach! Grandpa Bill cannot wait to teach our child how to fix stuff, and take us all to the South Carolina coast, where Maggie spent summers as a child, where we spend time throughout the year sitting on the upstairs porch talking and enjoying the breeze. Everyone in our life is so excited to help us welcome a child into our lives—with their children clamoring for a new playmate and member of the extended family.

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

We live in a small community that lies outside of a large city in Georgia. Our home is welcoming and relaxing thanks to the variety of trees providing shade and the wrap around porch with a swinging bench where we can catch a breeze on a hot day. Our yard has plenty of sunny spots as well, where we grow vegetables to eat and flowers for the butterflies. We look forward to helping our little one discover the beauty and bounty of nature outside.

Our Garden

Our neighborhood sits across from a wonderful elementary school, where we take our active dog, Bravo, to play Frisbee and where we look forward to walking our child to school in the mornings. There are many children in the neighborhood, so our child will have plenty of friends when at the neighborhood pool and playground. We often spend weekends enjoying the festivals and cultural events that the city offers. One of our favorites is the Arts Festival, which happens in the Spring and takes over the whole of Piedmont Park. We love walking around and cannot wait to hold our child’s hand while we walk by the booths on a sunny Spring day. We are just a short drive to many parks and forest trails that we enjoy exploring with our dog. Our neighborhood is diverse, family friendly, in an exceptional school district and a wonderful place to raise a family!

From Us to You

Hello from Georgia! We are Maggie and Kevin, and we are happy and humbled that you are taking the time to get to know us. We are so excited to grow our family through adoption, and our Atlanta family are also excited beyond belief to have a new little one to join our family. We cannot even begin to comprehend the amount of soul searching you likely have done to bring you to this decision, and we wish you peace and compassion as you choose the lucky couple to parent your child.

We, ourselves, are very visual individuals, so we ask that you consider imagining something. Please imagine a 4 bedroom house with a big backyard and a wrap-around porch that has so many fun things: a big vegetable garden to grow our tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and squash in; a basketball hoop to practice your layups on; a yard that is fenced in where children can run around and play tag or hide-n-go seek; and a big kitchen where we spend most of our time baking and cooking while listening to great music. This is the place we call home.

Also, please imagine a structured, fun-loving, creative home filled with music, books, toys, food, and family-time. Maggie enjoys fitness, so she is able to bring that energy into the house. Impromptu dance parties and karaoke are a regular occurrence in our kitchen and living room! Kevin is laid back and loves an evening of PJs, popcorn, laughter, and movies. But he also loves projects and building stuff, like our movie room, gardens and firepit.

Maggie is a school psychologist for a local school district, and Kevin is an IT guy at a small private school, so we love to share our passion of education with our children. Providing the opportunity for lifelong learning is a priority in our house, and we will provide every opportunity within our reach to allow your child to succeed both socially and academically. Fortunately for us, we have some of the best schools in all of Georgia.

This is just a glimpse into the life of our family. We want you to know that we are dedicated to providing your child with a safe environment, surrounded by unconditional love and acceptance. Our extended family and friends are thrilled for us, and they are so excited to meet our new, little family member. We cannot wait until that day as well!

For the 12 years that we have been together as a couple, our hearts have always been set on having a bigger family. Because of our fertility issues, we realized that an incredible door of possibility was wide open, and that was the opportunity to adopt a child. On so many levels, both of us understand that this is going to be such an incredible, beautiful journey to be able to witness and experience. What a blessing and a gift we will be honored with forever!

It is important to us that you know that your child is loved and being well-cared for and to give you comfort knowing that you made the right decision. Through photos and letters, we hope to share their joys and milestones through the years.

Thank you for reading our letter and taking the time to learn about us. There is no doubt that we would feel like we were the luckiest family on the planet if we were able to welcome your child into ours!

Warmest regards,

Kevin & Maggie
