Adoption in Our Lives

Family Photo in Hawaii

Shortly after we were married we knew that we wanted to have children. We also knew that the possibility of being able to conceive may not happen. We were prepared to grow our family through adoption. Our family was very supportive of our decision and Julia's cousin had adopted two of her children. Knowing that we had a very strong support group of friends and family we felt ready to begin the adventure.

In 2016 we adopted our daughter, Amelia. We have a wonderful relationship with her birth mother, which began even before she was born. Words cannot describe the feeling of becoming parents. She has made us so incredibly happy and given us the reassurance that this is the very best decision we could have made. From start to finish it is a roller coaster but our hearts are open to doing it all over again. We are very blessed to have been matched so perfectly.

We have learned from this experience that there is no right or wrong way, but to have a whole lot of faith and trust that what is meant to be will happen. We are excited to grow our family again through both our child and birth parents.

What it Means to be Parents

We have one daughter, Amelia, who just turned a year old. Every day is an adventure with her. It truly seems like a dream come true that we are blessed with Amelia. Having a child completely changes every aspect of your life. Everything involves being together as a family and constantly working together so that everyone is taken care of. It's funny how each "new" milestone is the best. Very early on Amelia was always interested in food. Jason is a wonderful cook and he loves cooking with Amelia. It is very typical for him to be cooking dinner with Amelia either watching in her high chair or he will have her on his back in the carrier.

We love teaching Amelia and to watch her learn is so much fun. Some of our favorite activities include going to the zoo and the aquarium as a family. We know that we are ready to become a family of four. We are absolutely positive that we have the love and patience to have another child and look forward to the opportunity.

Our Pets

Julila with Our Dogs, Stanley and Max

Animals are very important to both of us. We have always had multiple pets together and share the responsibility equally. At the current time, we have two awesome dogs, and two kittens that are litter mates. Our oldest dog is Max, who is around 8 years old and is a wonderful companion. We also have Stanley who is 2 years old and still acts very much like a puppy. They both have been wonderful with our daughter. The neighborhood children really love to pet them when we go on family walks and they love the attention!

The kittens are less than a year old. Julia has always had a love for orange cats, especially long haired ones. When these two little guys needed a home it was impossible to resist! The best characteristic about these guys is there love for Amelia. We will often find Bumble lying next to Amelia while she is playing. They are both very tolerable of her petting them and even at times trying to lay on them! There is no doubt that the pets in our home are more than just animals, they are our family too!

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

We live on a very quiet street in a cul de sac. We are very lucky to have wonderful neighbors who live next door, and we often do house projects and repairs together.

Our home has three bedrooms and a good size kitchen for cooking and entertaining friends and family. The downstairs leads to a large, fenced-in back yard. Our favorite room of the house is the nursery where Jason spent many hours painting a jungle theme on the walls. We spend a lot time playing with our daughter after dinner in her room.

Our backyard is beautiful and completely surrounded with trees. The deck is just off the kitchen overlooking the yard. During the summer months we grill most of our meals outside. We have a wonderful swing set with a tree house where our daughter loves to swing and go down the slide.

We chose to live in this community because it is nationally recognized for its award-winning school system. Also, there is wonderful downtown district with lots of neat shops, restaurants and a farmers market that we visit often. There are many children who live close by, and most of them go to school together. There is a nice little park that is within walking distance that has basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts, two different playgrounds and is surrounded by trails. Many of the children's sports teams practice there.

Our Extended Families

Cousins Playing on the Beach

We are very lucky to live within about 30 minutes of most of our family. At Christmas, our favorite family tradition is baking cookies. Every year, we spend an entire day baking about 10 different kinds of cookies and candies. It is a day filled with happy memories, reminiscing and lots of Christmas carols! The second favorite Christmas traditions is decorating the tree. We always try to find the best, tallest fattest tree to decorate. We always described the Christmas tree as magical, and with small children, it is definitely true!

Hangin with Grandma

Our family is very diverse. We have family members that live in Hawaii, and our nieces and nephews are part Filipino. We also have cousins that were adopted. When Jason's parents remarried almost 30 years ago it gave us another set of parents who are loving and supportive of us. Julia's mother lives by herself in condo very close to us and her younger sister lives with her boyfriend in Florida. Jason has two brothers. The oldest is married and has four children; they live in Hawaii. Jason's younger brother just bought a house not to far from us. We are very close to our siblings and try to face time often with the ones who live farther away.

We adopted our daughter about a year ago. It has been a wonderful experience watching her change and grow every day. For us to watch our parents with our daughter is absolutely wonderful. For right now Amelia is the youngest grandchild as well as the only one living in the same state so she gets to spend a lot of time with all of her grandparents.

From Us to You

We are Jason and Julia from Kentucky. We met in 2005 while working as bartenders, as corny as that may sound. We fell in love and married in 2010, switched to better jobs, bought a house and started planning our family. Without a very clear answer as to why, we have not been able to conceive, and we are ok with that. However, we truly love being parents to our daughter Amelia and we know that we have enough love to share with another child.

We would like to think of ourselves as a loving, intelligent, active couple who are always looking for the next adventure. We love spending time together as a family, whether it’s as simple as cooking dinner or on our way to a fabulous vacation. We are both very creative people, and our home is proof of that. Jason really enjoys painting and drawing, while Julia also enjoys crafting, making jewelry and most of all reading. We cannot wait for the opportunity to expand our family again so that our daughter will have a sibling to share our adventures with.

We enjoy an active lifestyle. We always love spending time with our friends and family, usually at a cookout or family game night. During the warmer months, we also have a garden that is expanding each year. We love outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, and canoeing. We are also members to our local zoo as well as the aquarium.

We are family oriented. Several times a month, the whole family will gather at Jason's mother's house for dinner. Even for most holidays Julia's mom and sister will join the fun with Jason's family. We are also very fortunate that Jason's father and step mother help watch Amelia during the week while we are working. We do make every effort to spend time with our parents as much as possible not only for ourselves but there is a true magic watching them as grandparents. It’s such a treat to watch them play and interact with Amelia, we just know that they will love another grandchild just as much.

One of our deciding factors when buying our house was the school district. Even before we started trying to grow our family, we knew that we wanted our child to have the very best education. Our home is located on a very quiet street on a cul de sac. There are many young families in the neighborhood with lots of children. Our house is a good size with a large, fenced -in backyard and swing set that our daughter loves to play on. We live in a bi-level home with 2 bedrooms upstairs and are in the process of finishing the basement so we have more living space. The nursery at one time was two rooms, but the wall had been removed to make it one very large bedroom. Jason spent many months painting a fantastic jungle scene to make it a very colorful fun space for a child.

Our goals for raising a child are simple: we want to instill our values in him or her. We are both very hardworking, honest people. We enjoy making our own food, growing our vegetables, and even doing our own home remodel projects. We feel that having children will only enrich our lives.

We cannot begin to imagine how difficult it must be to choose a family for your child. We want to thank you for taking the time to read more about us and for considering us to become parents. We would very much like the opportunity to share with you pictures, letters and emails over the years to come.

With warmest regards,

Jason & Julia
