Jonas & Katherine
Thank you for reading our story. We know that adoption is a gift and we are humbled that we may be blessed with the opportunity to honor you and your child. Our family is so fun and silly and our home is full of love and laughter. We are looking forward to expanding that love to envelop one more. We hope that you consider us and we look forward to the journey that lies ahead of us.
Our Promise to You
Our promise to you is that we will spend our lives loving your child in a way worthy of the amazing gift you have given us. We will keep your little one safe, healthy, active, and happy. We will do the very best we can to provide the best opportunities for happiness and success possible.
We have so many plans. Little league, birthday parties, family vacations here and abroad, swimming lessons, college. We will encourage imagination, kindness, courage, humility and love of family. There will be amazing days, routine days and sometimes average days but we will end each day with prayers of gratefulness.
And we will honor you every day. Your child will know that you love them, think of them all the time and only want the best for them. We may not be able to share every detail of your life but your precious one will know that you are brave and generous and their mother. Cross our hearts.
Our Leisure Time
We are the best of friends. We knew it from the moment we met and it grows deeper and wider every day. Jonas supports Katherine's interests and vice versa but we also have separate hobbies.
Our favorite neighborhood thing we do is go to the local Cinebistro (movies and dinner). We both love the Marvel, X-Men and other action movies but we also dig comedies and heartfelt stories. It's not unusual to find us both wiping a tear from our eyes. Plus Jonas LOVES their crab cakes.
As a family, one of our favorite places is Orlando. We're not sure who loves Disney's Animal Kingdom more, Katherine or Kaiya. The safari is incredible. The last time we went, a baby giraffe came right up to our truck! We've figured out that we have more fun if we spend a day at the hotel swimming in between visiting theme parks to rejuvenate. It's the perfect family vacation.
Our Most Memorable Moment
The day Jonas proposed was such a sweet, hilarious, event. Jonas decided to take us to one of Katherine's favorite restaurants. When we arrived, the waitress tells us how excited she is that we're getting engaged at the waitress's station! Jonas was so disappointed that the surprise was let out but then we just had to laugh at the craziness of it all. Jonas stuck to his original plan and the ring was brought out with dessert. It was beautiful and it was as if no one else was in the room. Until the phone rang and it was our alarm company! For some reason, they were being signaled that the house was on fire. Thankfully, it wasn't but of course we were concerned so we hurried and paid the bill and rushed home to meet the firemen. Everyone was so nice and we all had a good laugh at the evening's events. But nothing could have made that day bad. We were getting married!
Our Extended Families
We both love spending time with our families as often as we can. Jonas has three brothers; Katherine is the oldest of three girls. Jonas is lucky enough to have his mother and younger brothers nearby, so we hang out with them all the time - baseball games, BBQs, holidays, birthdays. Both of his brothers love spending time with Kaiya too. They all went to the indoor sky diving place (which they loved), Six Flags is a favorite, and they attend all of her school sporting events.
One of Katherine's sisters also lives close by and spends a lot of time with us. We travel together, spend holidays at each other's houses, and Katherine and Kim even belong to the same book club. Katherine sees her mom and youngest sister several times a year, either in Colorado or Georgia. Each year we bring in the new year with homemade pizza, sparkling cider and noisemakers.
We both come from very large extended families. Our cousins are like our siblings. One year, we went to FIVE weddings for our family and friends around the country. It was so much fun, we would say at the end of each trip "see you in two weeks" and everybody would laugh from sheer delight.
Everyone is so excited about our plans to adopt. Katherine's sister sends her nursery suggestions, both grandmas have asked to buy cribs, clothes and other necessities and Jonas's brother and Katherine's sister will both be godparents.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a wonderful community. There is a recreation center, swimming pool and park with basketball and tennis courts right in the neighborhood. We regularly walk over to shoot hoops, swim and it's a favorite route for our dogs. Every year, the community celebrates its history as one of the oldest predominantly African American neighborhoods with a parade and festival.
Our house is two stories, three bedrooms and three bathrooms upstairs. We also have a lower area with another bedroom and bathroom. The back yard is fenced in and the front is covered with beautiful 100+ year old trees. Our favorite part of the house is the screened in deck. It's the absolute best way to spend mild Sunday afternoons.
Our neighbors participate in playdates, share tips via our community app, and hold lots of neighborhood events like movies and concerts in the park. Kaiya isn't old enough yet but she's already on the list of future babysitters.
From Us to You
Hi. We (Jonas and Katherine) want to thank you for taking the time to consider us as the adoptive parents for your baby. We know it is no small decision and we truly appreciate the strength and courage required during this process. We are deeply honored that you are reading our story and hope you find that we are the right family to adopt your precious one.
We'd like to tell you a little about how we came to be. We met five years ago and have been married four. Our first date was at a Starbucks while he waited for Jonas’s daughter, Kaiya, to complete her ballet class. Jonas explained that he was a ballet dad who learned how to create the perfect ballet bun from YouTube, dropped Kaiya off at class twice a week, attended all of her recitals with flowers in hand and hung out with all of the other ballet moms after class. Katherine thought it was the most adorable thing she'd ever heard.
We agreed to date for a while before sharing what was happening with Kaiya. By the time Katherine and Kaiya met a few months later, our fate was sealed. We knew we were in it for eternity. It was obvious to Kaiya and Jonas's mom too.
We were instant friends from the beginning. We share a lot of things in common and love spending time together. But mostly, we can just relax and be ourselves around each other. Our relationship and our home are full of love, laughter, silliness, and acceptance. It's awesome and we would choose this life again and again.
Kaiya took some time to adjust but we got her involved immediately. She decorated her room, was assigned set chores, got involved in walking the dogs and we created some routines for us three - going to Food Truck Wednesdays in the Summer, Friday dinners at the Whole Foods warm bar, football games and tailgating, Destin every summer and our favorite, Disneyland. Kaiya was our first priority once we decided to adopt. She's excited about being a big sister and "teaching them everything she knows."
Everyone in our lives is excited about our plans but maybe no one more than Katherine's mom. Although Katherine is the oldest of three girls, they haven't yet had kids so this child will the first grandchild! Katherine's mom cried when she heard the news and promptly started picking out decorations for the "other" nursery in Colorado. And Katherine's sisters cannot wait to be aunts.
As full as our lives are, we know that sharing all of these wonderful experiences with a child will only make them more vivid and special. We are so thankful that you're even reading our story. If we're selected, we would love to communicate through letters or emails and share pictures and videos of this beautiful child. As we promised, your child will always know as much about you as we do. And if you're open to it, we would love to create a tradition that we can all share during the holidays. Even something simple like a shared ornament or recipe. It's important to us that this child knows they are loved by us all.
Thank you so much,
Jonas & Katherine
