Alex & Kathy

We are beyond excited about the addition of a child to our home. We have been married for 8 years and together for 9. We have spent years exploring our community and building stability in our lives together, learning and growing together as a couple, and we cannot wait to explore it all over again through the eyes of a child. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for considering us as parents and for this amazing gift you would be bestowing upon us.

What It Means to Become Parents

Merry Christmas!

Kathy: I’ve always dreamed of becoming a mother. I look back at things I have learned in my own life that have helped shape me into who I am as a person, and I look forward to helping a child experience so many things in life as well, so that they can grow into the person that he or she is meant to be! I’ve held on to books and games that have been special to me, hoping to share in those with a child someday. I’ve enjoyed learning to play musical instruments, as well as all different sports - and look forward to sharing my love of these things with a child, or learning all about an entirely new passion with them if their interests should lead them on a new path! I coach high school sports and what I love best about my role is being able to help children find and build up their own inner confidence- and helping them achieve things they never thought were possible.

Alex: Being a father will undoubtedly be the most rewarding experience of my life. As a teacher, I have had the opportunity to be a part of thousands of children’s educations over the years, and it would be so amazing to be able to be a part of my own child’s education someday as well. Education is so important to us as a family, not only in school, but also helping a child grow to become a kind, and loving human being- as that is perhaps the most important task a person can be a part of in this world. I also look forward to sharing the wonderfully fun experiences that I had in my own youth- like family vacations to Disney World- where we can hopefully develop a childhood full of amazing memories.

Leisure Time

Having Fun at Busch Gardens

Kathy: My parents had a lot of hobbies that they would share with my brother and me, but we never felt forced-upon and they let us be who we wanted to be. My parents loved sports and encouraged me to try any or all that I wanted (at various points in my childhood, I did gymnastics, tennis, swimming, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey). I learned to love the outdoors when we'd go hiking as a family and looking for wildlife. My parents also taught me how to play guitar and clarinet. Most of all, whatever we chose to do, they wanted me to love learning – and I hope I can pass that love on to my child.

Alex: I enjoy swimming, hiking, playing board games, and good conversation. I love music and play the piano, guitar, and sing. It would be really fun to teach my child an instrument or two to play. Imparting them with a love for learning is also something I look forward to. As a middle school teacher I enjoy seeing the expression on kids' faces when they discover something interesting that they didn't know before. My motto as a teacher is, "Make learning something new a part of every day."

Our Cultural Heritage

Alex's mother is American of European heritage, while his father is Mexican. Kathy's family is European. Alex grew up both in Mexico and in the United States and understands what it means to be of two different heritages. Since marrying Alex, Kathy loves having this background incorporated now into her own and we feel we can be supportive and truly understanding parents to a child who is either white or Hispanic or a combination. Alex still speaks Spanish and uses it sometimes as a teacher with students. We recently had our DNA tested to see our heritage which was a wonderful experience – or experiment, as it rather felt like. Kathy is 99.9% European and .1% Mongolian; Alex's heritage is all over the world – Northern and Southern European, Native American, and even some Asian.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our community is a relatively new subdivision so there are a lot of young families. The community was designed for this, so there are lots of playgrounds, pools, and top notch schools. There are many children around to meet and become friends with. The community hosts special events for families like camp-out night or outdoor movie night, concerts, and the yearly community fair.

Our house is an end-unit town house in an older part of the community. We chose this house because of the trees in the neighborhood that made it feel more secure and quiet. We also chose it for the big garden space in the back which Kathy has fixed up into a beautiful garden with a small lawn area, flowers and shrubs, and an upper and lower deck. We like to sit outside and eat dinner and watch the hummingbirds visit the flowers. The house has three floors, three bedrooms, and 3.5 bathrooms - we love the natural light on all three levels.

Directly across our quiet street is a playground where people bring their small children every day - some people drive to our playground, but we can just walk over. Once our child gets older, we can walk to other community playgrounds and pools for more activities.

Our Extended Families

Thanksgiving With Family

We both have family near our home. Kathy's mom lives in the next county; she visits regularly and her mom is excited about having a grandchild to spoil. Alex's mom and step-dad also live in the neighboring county. We go to family dinners at each of the mom's houses, and sometimes the moms meet up even without us to talk over lunch. Alex's brother also lives nearby and has two children of his own. Kathy's brother currently lives overseas but Kathy is excited to see how much fun he is going to have being an uncle when he visits.

For holidays, we usually meet up at a family house with extended family from in and out of town. Alex's family has a huge get-together the Saturday after Thanksgiving where everyone gets to catch up over the year. Christmas is done at Kathy's mom's house; Alex's mom's house; and a third, quiet Christmas is celebrated just between us and our cat, Athena.

Our families are very excited about us adding to the group with a child of our own.

From Us to You

Our hearts go out to you as you consider adoption for your child - we can’t imagine how difficult and emotional this time must be. We hope that you are able to see how incredibly ready we are to welcome a little bundle of love and joy into our home, and know that this has been a dream of ours for years now. When we learned that we were unable to have a child biologically, we knew in our hearts that adoption was the perfect path for us to build our family. We cannot wait to welcome a child into our arms and fill their lives with love and happiness- and also instill in them great appreciation for the journey that brought them to us. We will ensure that this child takes great pride in their adoption story, and knows the sacrifice that you made for him or her to find us. We also hope that through all of this, that we are able to all bask in the sunlight that is this child as they learn and grow and become their own person- as we want you to be reassured that we will always keep an open door for you. We don’t know your story at this time, but we can imagine you have been through so much. We hope that you can sense the appreciation from us for your bravery and selflessness in even considering us as a potential family for your child.

We have just celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary so we are comfortable with one another and secure in where we are going. We can talk to each other about any concerns we have, although, since we so often agree, that there hasn’t been much need to compromise or work out conflicts. Alex is a middle school teacher and Kathy coaches high school sports. We both love working with children and have already chosen to spend our lives doing so, but having a child of our own that we can share our daily lives with would complete our family.

We have lots of fun hobbies we try to keep up with. Kathy likes to garden and has transformed the backyard into a beautiful garden with a small grassy lawn and flowers and small trees. There are butterflies and hummingbirds and birds singing in the trees outside our back fence. We love to sit outside and enjoy the yard and one another’s company. Kathy also likes to quilt. She is currently working on a quilt to be donated to the school where she works for the athletic department fundraiser. In her free time, she likes being active ?" hiking or playing soccer. We are both musical. Kathy plays piano and guitar and enjoys writing music. Alex also plays guitar and writes music. We have a small music studio in the basement where we can practice without waking up the neighbors!

Our families live nearby, and since we have both lived in the area most of our lives, we have friends and connections around that are excited for us to adopt a child. The grandmothers are ready and waiting to do their part spoiling a grandchild! Every day we hope to bring another experience for the child, whether it just start as a stroller walk around the block, or visiting a new playground, meeting another child, petting a dog…. We can’t wait to share each of these little moments and help someone grow into a beautiful young adult.

You’ve come here, and read this far, because you love your child already and want to be sure that you are making the best choice possible. We promise to do our absolute best to teach our child to be caring, to love learning, and to appreciate all of life’s tiny beautiful moments. We will be glad to exchange emails and photos and as we communicate over time, may be open to further contact. Adoption is new for us and probably for you too ?" we’ll go through this journey together and learn how it works!
