Adoption in Our Lives

Fun With Mom & Dad

We originally tried to conceive a child naturally, but, to our surprise, God had other plans for us. His plan for us was to create our family through adoption and we followed His call. That plan came into fruition with our son, Matías, who we adopted as an infant in 2016.

We met Matías on the day he was born and it was love at first sight. He is now 18 months old and full of energy. He loves books, puzzles, being with us in the kitchen, watching soccer with Mauricio, going to the park, and dancing to music. Matías recently said his first words which were both Spanish words. He is the first grandson for Christine's parents and was the first boy grandchild for Mauricio's parents. Both families have so much love for him and can't wait to welcome another child into the family. We know that Matías will be a loving and caring big brother, and it will be fun to see him play and interact with his new sibling.

We always talked about having more than one child, so now that we are ready to grow our family, there was no hesitation to pursue adoption again. Each adoption journey is unique and we, along with our families, look forward to the one God has planned for us this second time.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

At Murcielago Beach

We love to travel and have gone on several trips together. One of our favorite places is Ecuador, Mauricio's home country. We have traveled there several times. On the most recent trip, we took Christine's parents and also our son, Matías, to celebrate his first birthday. We enjoyed the beaches, the mountains, the warm weather, and visiting many friends and family. We ate delicious food, especially lots of fresh seafood. We look forward to traveling there many more times and to allow our children to grow up learning about Mauricio's culture. We love to explore new cities each time we go and hope to one day travel to the Galapagos islands.

Our Cultural Heritage

Mauricio was born and raised in Ecuador and his first language is Spanish. Although the majority of his family now lives in the states, he still has much of his extended family back in Ecuador. We travel there every other year to stay connected to his friends, family and culture.

Christine comes from a bi-racial family. Her dad's family background is German, English and Irish. Her mom's family background is Mexican. She didn't grow up speaking Spanish, but studied it in high school and college. She lived in Spain to increase her fluency. We have decided to make Spanish the main language in our home. Our son's first words have been in Spanish and we will continue to speak Spanish to our children at home and nurture this important piece of our family culture.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in Washington state near mountains as well as beaches. There are many places to hike and do outdoor activities year-round.

Our home is fairly new and it has four bedrooms and a den where Christine's piano is. We have a nice patio area and backyard with plenty of grass for outdoor activities. Our house is located at the end of a long driveway which makes it very private and safe for kids to play away from the main street.

Matias Loves Grandpa's Pool

Our neighborhood has many kids and is very close to a nice park. It has a paved trail, a basketball court, and playground equipment. Right next to the park is a family farm. They have horses and cows and sell corn that they grow in the summertime.

Down the street from us is a large complex with baseball, soccer, and football fields. The elementary school is a few blocks away and has a big field with a track.

Christine's parents live 15 minutes away and they have a big backyard with a pool. It's a great place to spend time on a hot summer day.

Our Extended Families

Vacation With Mauricio's Family

We both come from large families. Mauricio has four siblings and Christine has three. Christine's parents and brothers live in the same town as us. We get together for holidays, birthdays, and other activities. We see Christine's parents every weekend at church and Christine's mom takes care of Matías two days a week. One of Mauricio's brothers lives in the same town as well. We have him and his wife over for dinner and to watch soccer games. The rest of Mauricio's family lives in New Jersey, and we visit them very often. When we are with his family, his mom and grandma cook traditional Ecuadorian food. Christine enjoys cooking with them and learn the Ecuadorian recipes. Spanish is Mauricio's family first language and we speak it at home as the main language as it's an important part of Mauricio's culture. Both families have been very supportive about our decision to adopt again and are excited to meet the newest member of our family!

With Christine's Parents & Grandparents

From Us to You

Hola! We are Mauricio and Christine and we send you greetings from the state of Washington in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We have been happily married for over five years and although our original plan was to start our family through natural conception, God had other plans for us. After much thought and prayer, we felt God's call for us to adopt. In June of 2016 we were blessed with our first child, Matías, who came to us through adoption.

We are enjoying the journey of being parents and are ready for our family to grow. We both come from big families and know how fun it is to grow up with siblings, so we are excited for Matías to become a big brother.

Mauricio is originally from Ecuador. He is very passionate about soccer and is already making Matías a fan. He looks forward to taking Matías and our next child to many soccer games. Christine comes from a family with Mexican and European roots. Being the oldest, she was always taking care of her younger siblings and babysitting other kids, so becoming a mother has been a natural transition. She plays the piano and hopes to teach our children to play. Our Hispanic culture is very important to us and we are excited to pass on those traditions. We both speak Spanish and maintain it as the main language in our home, in fact, Matías' first words were in Spanish. We love music and always have it playing in our house. We love to travel and appreciate other cultures and are excited to take our children on many adventures around the world. We like to stay active spending time in our backyard, at the park, playing sports and doing different activities. We enjoy cooking, and it has been fun to have Matías help out in the kitchen and learn our favorite recipes.

Our five years of marriage and almost two as parents have allowed us to build a strong foundation in our relationship. We are prepared and excited to welcome another child into our family with open arms. However you have come to the decision of adoption for your child, we want you to know that your choice is truly appreciated. We have a strong Catholic faith and are praying for you along your journey. The fact that you are reading this letter and taking time to learn about us gives us great hope, and we value whatever decision you make. We believe that we are all God's adopted children and we will bring your child up surrounded by His love. We will make sure your child knows their unique adoption story and will commit to sending letters and pictures to you frequently so that you can see how your child is growing and developing.

We are a fun, young couple who have so much love to give, and we can't wait to be able to share that love with another child. Our family and friends are very supportive and are excited for us to grow our family through adoption. We have a wonderful community around us and your child will be embraced with welcoming arms and loving hearts. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us.
