Thomas & Kelly
Adoption is a blessing and we are so grateful to be on this path. We have so much love to share and can't wait for our family to grow. We hope that you feel confident as you get to know us that we will provide a safe and loving home for your child. Thank you for having the courage to consider adoption and for putting your faith in us.
Our Leisure Time
Living in Florida we have the privilege of enjoying the beautiful weather in our leisure time. Being that we both grew up in Florida, we spent a lot of time on the water and outdoors. We are both active and like to stay busy. Thomas loves to golf, fish, hike, swim in our pool, and bike on the trials near our home. Kelly enjoys swimming, gardening, going to the gym where she boxes, and also enjoys biking. In addition, we both enjoy gardening and watching sports such as college football and soccer.
When we spend time with family we enjoy playing games such as dominoes, trivial pursuit, cards, and bocce ball. We also love spending time out on our boat as well as spending time with our dog Maddie. We have a very walkable downtown area near our home with lots of parks and there are special activities regularly including farmers markets and arts and craft shows. We love getting fresh fruits, vegetables, and plants from local farmers. We also love to go to the nearby blueberry farm where we pick our own berries and make the best blueberry pancakes.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Our favorite vacation spot is our family home in Germany. Located in a small town near Munich. We love this spot for a variety of reasons. First, Thomas’ father was born and raised in the neighboring town of Diessen. Going to see, in person, all the places he heard about in his stories brings the family closer together. Second, Thomas’ family spent many summers together in Germany, so they have created great memories there. They were lucky enough to spend between 3 - 7 weeks there almost every year. Staying for this length of time allowed them to learn the language, assimilate with the local culture, and even make lifelong friends. The culture is another key reason why we enjoy the area. Raisting is a small farming village that exudes a calm, easy going, and simple way of life. Exposure to this simple atmosphere really gives us time to unwind, relax and reflect on what is truly important in life - family. The final reason we continue going back is the landscape’s natural beauty. The green rolling fields, lakes and streams, and the breathtaking Alps set a perfect backdrop to all our adventures. We hope to continue this summer vacation tradition. We will soon take our 4th trip together, and our young nephews have already been twice!
Our Dog, Maddie
Pets are an important part of our lives both mentally and physically. Growing up we both had pets that were a part of the family. The love and connection we made throughout the years with our family pets naturally led us to want pets of our own. In our current home we have a red golden retriever named Maddie. Mentally, we feel that Maddie is therapeutic. Having Maddie as a companion reduces the stress of everyday life. There is nothing like the greeting we get from her when we get home from work, it brings us so much happiness. Physically we love staying active, and having Maddie fits in to this lifestyle. Some of our favorite activities such as being outdoors, swimming, hiking, and being on the water are made even more enjoyable with her company. Seeing her excitement and happiness during these activities is rewarding and brings us joy. Maddie provides true unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship and we couldn't imagine our life without her.
Our Extended Families
The majority of both of our families live within 15 minutes of our house. Kelly's mom, dad, and brother live in the neighboring town and her sister lives in Georgia. Thomas' mom, dad, brother, and sister along with her family, live in a nearby town as well.
Whenever our families get together, food is always at the center. We have 2 chefs in the family along with family recipes that go back 4 generations to Sicily. Typically on Sunday we make meatballs by hand and marinara sauce from scratch to serve with pasta and a fresh salad. Everyone in the kitchen helping to prepare and cook the food is half the fun, the other half of course is eating it!
After dinner the fun continues with cards or dominoes. This is the time our parents usually start with stories from the "the good old days". These tales from the past always provide insight to our family’s history and culture and are a great opportunity to learn about who we are and where we came from. We also enjoy playing games and watching movies with our family.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in Florida; just 3 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Our neighborhood is made up of single family homes built in the late 1980's. The homes of the neighborhood have varying architecture that help create an appealing sense of place. The neighborhood is not "cookie cutter" where every house looks the same and each house sits directly next to their neighbors. A sidewalk follows along our entire neighborhood providing a safe place to walk and ride bikes. Our lot size of over 1/3 an acre provides lots of open lawn space in the front, side, and backyards. Many mature trees throughout the property provide shade and habitat for local wildlife. Many different birds frequent the feeders we have placed on the trees, and watching these birds from our kitchen table is a lot of fun in the mornings.
We have four bedrooms and two and a half baths in our open floor plan. The kitchen is open to both the dining room and the living room with a fireplace. Our outside patio is the best place to be when the weather is nice. It is screened in and surrounds our pool where we spend a lot of time in the Florida sun. We also have a half-court basketball court in our back yard which we enjoy as well.
From Us to You
We were both raised in a loving home and were encouraged to follow our dreams. Life was not always easy nor our paths clear, but we were guided through challenges with the love and support of our family and our faith. Family, faith, and a strong emphasis on education were a common theme in both of our homes. Both of our families had a love for food, music, art, and culture with roots in Italy and Germany.
Our paths eventually crossed over ten years ago while we were both attending college at the University of Florida. After graduation, we began dating and soon discovered how similar our upbringing, roots, and values were. Five years later we were married and truly started our lives together. Now married for over 5 years, our lives have been filled with laughter, world travels, challenges, but ultimately unconditional love and support. We have worked hard to ensure that one day we could provide a loving and stable home for a family of our own.
After years of trying to conceive naturally without any luck, we sought the opinion of our doctor. We were given the option to try various procedures, however we really had no desire to do so. We had spoken about the possibly of adoption before as this was a topic we were presented in our marriage classes through our church prior to getting married. We took our mom’s advice to trust in God and pray. We realized that the plan for us is not in our hands. Over time we ultimately realized our desire to be parents is far stronger than our desire to “conceive.” We are so excited to grow our family through adoption. The thought of loving a child brings us so much joy and happiness that we know we are blessed on this path. We look forward to sharing all of the love in our hearts with our future child. Also our families are so supportive and cannot wait to share all of their love to our future child as well. We look forward to continuing to travel and seeing the world through a new light with this child. We also look forward to countless beautiful memories and all the joy that a child brings.
It is difficult to put into words the respect and gratitude we have for you, and for your consideration of us as parents for your beautiful baby. Please trust and find peace in knowing that we promise to love this child unconditionally and to cherish every moment. We will treat this child with kindness and respect, and encourage that he or she be true to themself. We will pass down values that our parents taught us: love and respect of all people and this planet, kindness and forgiveness of self and others, and to see others as equal regardless of race, religion, or social status. We will also put a strong emphasis on the importance of education, and plan to stay true to our roots centered around good food, music, and culture.
We will send you letters and pictures regularly. We understand the value of contact with you throughout the years and feel that staying connected is an important part of both you and this child's journey and identity. We also hope that these photos and letters bring you comfort, peace, and joy. If it is the wish of you and the child to visit, we will encourage and embrace this with open arms. We also encourage contact prior to the adoption as well so that you can feel further confidence and peace with your decision in choosing us as parents. As new parents we won't know all the answers and with the ever changing planet and society we can't promise there won't be challenges. What we can promise, is that we will love this child unconditionally all the days of our lives.
