Jayson & Mellissa

We believe that it is important in life to find the joy in everyday things, positively impact the world and continually learn. As parents we will share these same lessons, and will be there to love, support, and provide for a child. We would love to incorporate you in our lives, and look forward to building a lifelong relationship through the adoption triad.

Our Leisure Time

Halloween at Disney World

Jayson enjoys video games, music, EPL Soccer, doing projects around our home, and power lifting. Mellissa enjoys taking yoga/meditation classes because it is both a mental and a physical work out. She also enjoys listening to podcasts like NPR's Market Place and anything Disney.

The arts are an integral part of our life. This is one of the reasons we recently moved to Florida since it allows us the opportunity to partake in a plethora of cultural, art, and culinary events. We live a few blocks from downtown, which is home to the Performing Arts Center. We are looking forward to an upcoming live Film Concert with their orchestra. We also spend 2-3 days per month at Disney attending their festivals, concerts, and international pavilions. Our favorites are the Art Festival and Flower and Garden Festival at EPCOT. We love that we can meet people and sample food, wares, and language from different cultures.

Another thing we do regularly is watch soccer games with the local Tottenham Hotspur supporter club. It's a family affair with kids and adults alike. We also love to travel. Between us both we’ve been to 12 other countries at least once and visited 30 states. We like enjoying the variety of food, culture and history. We usually include museums and landmarks along with shows, shopping, and lots of restaurants.

Fun Facts About Us

Our Fur Babies

1. We currently have 4 fur-kids that we've rescued. Fawkes, Ollivander and Ginny are all Maine Coon mix cats. Sunny is the lone dog. She's a 13 year old Shiba Inu that we rescued in 2010.

2. Mellissa is originally from Wisconsin.

3. Jayson is originally from Kansas City, MO, but lived in upstate NY as a teenager.

4. We are Disney fanatics, and regularly visit Walt Disney World.

5. We are avid fans of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

6. Jayson is an avid video gamer, and we own multiple video game systems including original games from his youth.

7. Music is an important part of our lives, and we both participated in band and chorus throughout high school.

8. We are devoted fans of the Harry Potter series.

9. Jayson has played guitar for 20 years, and continues to enjoy playing as a hobby.

10. Mellissa enjoys yoga, and particularly enjoys hot yoga to help relax as well as stay in shape.

Cultural Diversity

One of the reasons we have quickly fallen in love with our community is how diverse it is. Our immediate neighborhood has many blended families of all ages who share a passion for the environment, community, and buying local. We are surrounded by a heavily Asian influenced food and shopping scene. We are especially fond of learning about the art of sushi!

Half of our city speaks Spanish, and the community reflects the many countries that our Spanish speaking neighbors come from. A favorite new food we've enjoyed since moving are Empanadas from a couple who make them fresh at our local Farmer's Market! When we attend City Soccer games many of the chants are in Spanish so we've started learning for both work and leisure. We participate in both MLS and EPL soccer clubs because it's a wonderful blend of people from all over the country and the world! We've had the opportunity to experience different peoples, history, culture, language, and food firsthand. We believe experiencing your own and other cultures are important in one's development, and pledge to continue this with a child.

Our Extended Families

Meeting Chewbacca with Melissa's Family

We both have large families spread throughout the country. Mellissa has 3 siblings and Jayson has 2 sisters. Florida is a new home for us so we don't have a lot of family nearby, but we easily stay connected with everyone via FaceTime and in person visits.

Recently Jayson's Mom, Aunt, 2 cousins, Grandma (Nannie), and Niece came to visit us. This was Nannie's first visit to Walt Disney World's EPCOT. We had a wonderful time exploring all 11 countries, and bought her a passport so that Cast Members in each country could sign it in their native languages. Nannie grew up in France so she felt at home being able to speak French and enjoy a macron in the Patisserie at the French pavilion.

Jayson with His Mom and Sisters

Growing up Mellissa's family always traveled. Their travels are always ridiculous, yet fun filled. One of the first trips Jayson joined was a Thanksgiving trip to Colorado. We drove 21 straight hours, in a van full to burst with ski equipment, 7 people, and a 21 pound turkey brining in the trunk. We went ATVing in the mountains, ate Thanksgiving dinner at midnight and pie for breakfast the following day, and hiked an hour up a mountain to eat under the stars in a Yurt. Our families are so excited to add another child to our adventures!

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

Our home was built in 1951 by the previous owners. We cherish the fact that we had the opportunity to hear the history and memories this home has from someone who lived here almost their entire life. It's small, at 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms, but it's size is made up in charm with original wood floors and quirky kitchen wallpaper. The previous owner added a large open addition making it the perfect space to play games and host family. The backyard is fenced in, and begging for a play set and kiddie pool to stay cool in the warm summer heat. We also have a spacious bike path out front for evening strolls with our dog.

We Love Our Neighborhood

One of the features that sold us on our neighborhood is that it is considered an "up and coming" neighborhood where young families are buying homes and setting down roots in the area. This will allow for our child to have many kids who are close in age nearby. We are within walking distance of a weekly farmer's market, a bakery and ice cream parlor, vegetarian restaurants, locally owned stores, a garden that hosts monthly family movies under the stars, and a brand new elementary school. We are also only a short drive from all the area attractions like the Science Museum, Disney World, Universal Studios, Discovery Cove, Kennedy Space Center, and some of the country's best beaches.

From Us to You

We understand that the word "difficult" doesn't do what you're likely feeling justice. The decision to place your child for adoption simply cannot be expressed in a single word. It can be said though that you are insightful, caring, and courageous because you are purposefully deciding what is best for the child. We are honored that you are taking the time to learn more about us and welcome the opportunity to join you in this journey.

We are Jayson and Mellissa. We met in the fall of 2009 while attending college together. Life had flung us both into Madison, Wisconsin. We truly believe it was fate. Bright and early on Tuesdays and Thursdays we had Adolescent Phycology followed by Historiography. It started with Jayson always saving her a seat next to him since Mellissa tends to run behind in the mornings. On October 16th we had our first date. Although Jayson has improved, at the time he was a very picky eater. During our first date he couldn't find anything he liked so we left the first restaurant and went to another. We closed the restaurant down that night, talking late into the evening. The next night we went out again, this time to a polka restaurant were Mellissa was introduced to some amazing friends who can't wait to support us as parents.

We were engaged in the spring of 2011 and were married in 2012. Mellissa knew Jayson was the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with because he made her laugh. For Jayson it was clear that Mellissa made him a better person, and that he enjoyed his life much more with her in it. Jayson is also a great listener, and we have very similar outlooks on life. We can talk for hours or do nothing at all but just spend time together. We also complimented each other nicely. While we both like to recharge at home, Jayson helps Mellissa come out of her shell. Conversely Jayson can tend to be a creature of habit and Mellissa helps him try new things.

In the fall of 2013 we began our quest toward parenthood. For 3 long years we worked with multiple doctors, getting lots and lots of tests, undergoing multiple surgeries and procedures, experienced 4 failed embryo transfers, and miscarried twins from donated embryos. Those long and stressful months were some of the hardest of our lives. We grew so much as a couple; seeking comfort from each other, communicating during the angry and sad days, and juggling all the stress. After going through all that we did we know there is nothing that can rattle our marriage. But this leads us to this moment in time. After a lot of soul searching and talking, researching and more researching, we are pursuing adoption to create our family. Through it all, being parents was our dream. Being biologically related to our child was not important to us because family goes beyond blood, it's shaped by love and time together.

Words cannot describe how excited we are to create new memories as a family, and share all our passions and adventures with our child but also learn new ones that they enjoy. We look forward to including you in our lives as we give our whole hearts to raising our child with love and patience. We are committed to an open adoption and ensuring our child knows their story and you. We are also committed to sending you letters and photos at a minimum. Technology is a wonderful way to stay connected and we would be honored to involve you via emails, FaceTime, and even in person visits.

Thank you again for the opportunity to begin to get know us. We hope to begin our journey together soon!

Sincerely,

Jayson & Mellissa
