Adoption in Our Lives

With Fia at Preschool

Our plan was to grow our family both biologically and through adoption. We were blessed enough to conceive a child through fertility treatments and in May 2014 our precious daughter, Lainie, was born. She suffered a birth injury and passed away 13 hours later. This was a devastating loss to us. We try to honor her by celebrating the life she did have and the joy she brought and still brings to our lives. We do an annual Walk to Remember with our family and it is always a special day. Lainie was our first born child and will always be a part of our family.

We adopted our beautiful daughter, Fia, in 2015. She is such a blessing to us. It is hard to imagine life before she joined our family! Fia is very smart and well adjusted. She loves music and really enjoys spending time with her friends at school. Fia is really such a joy with her sweet and silly personality. Although Fia is too young to understand what having a sibling means, we are helping to prepare her with books and she already enjoys caring for and nurturing her younger cousin. She's quite the little mommy! We know Fia will love being a big sister.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

A Nice Day Together

Dana About Dale: The qualities I love most about Dale are his big heart, his intelligence, and his reliability. Dale appears serious on the outside, but is a HUGE softy on the inside. Dale adores our daughter, Fia, and she thinks her dad is the greatest person on earth. They have the sweetest connection and Fia is truly a Daddy's girl. It warms my heart to watch the two of them together. I know I could not have chosen a better person as a partner and as a father to our children. Dale is extremely reliable and has never let me down in even the smallest way. He is a wonderful provider and finds a lot of joy in giving gifts, planning surprises, and doing thoughtful and meaningful acts. He is truly the most wonderful man I have ever known!

Dale About Dana: I consider Dana my very best friend and the person I always want to be around. Dana is strong, loving, compassionate, always doing the right thing, caring towards everyone, and overall the best person I have ever met. I believe Dana is the most caring mother I have ever seen. The patience and love Dana shows our daughter is something to behold. I watch Dana create an environment each day for Fia that is full of magic and learning. Fia always looks forward to her time with Dana as they sing, play games, and enjoy lots of snuggles. I can't imagine a better mother, partner, and friend to grow our family.

Cultural Diversity

We are completely open to transracial adoption. We love children and a child of any race is a welcome addition to our family. We choose not to use the phrase "we don't see color" because we feel it robs the child of their heritage and ethnicity. We would love to know as much about the child's ethnicity as possible so we can make it a part of our lives. We will teach the child about our cultural backgrounds and teach them as much about theirs as possible. We want the child to feel comfortable in our family, but also very comfortable with the person they are and where they come from. We will do little things like purchasing books that have characters in them that resemble their race or culture and cooking a dish of cultural significance. Our two year old daughter has dolls of various races and attends school with children of different races and cultures The most important thing is to make the child feel special and celebrate his/her heritage. It would be a priority to us that the child experience racial and cultural pride and have a strong sense of self.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in Illinois where both of us were raised. Our home is located in a family friendly neighborhood full of children and nearby activities. There are many parks, walking paths, beautiful nature preserves, golf facility, and pools right in and around our neighborhood. Around the corner from our home, there is an annual Scottish Festival we enjoy attending with family. It has games and races for children, a dog show, numerous sporting events, music, food, and fun. In the same location, there is a huge 4th of July celebration which was attended by 42,000 people this year. It is a wonderful event that we love sharing with our family. We make an entire weekend of it. We love getting out and enjoying a wide variety of activities. We have season tickets to the Bulls, a membership to the zoo, we visit the aquarium, museums, and take in the occasional Cubs game! There are so many wonderful activities for children where we live and we are eager to share these experiences with a child. This is really a terrific place to live and raise a family.

Our Extended Families

Reading With Grandpa

We have both been fortunate to come from very loving families. Dana is one of 6 children and Dale is one of 3. Together we have 18 nieces and nephews, 6 of which are under the age of 5 ... with more to come! Our families live in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, and Wisconsin, so we have a lot of fun places to visit.

Dana has family close and we get together regularly. One of our favorite weekends hosting family at our home is during the 4th of July. We also enjoy spending time with family during the holidays (Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).

Fun With Cousins

Every two years, Dana's family has a reunion in a national park. Dana's great grandfather established the Interpretive Program in the national parks and was a Superintendent of the Grand Canyon. The reunions are always held in a national park as many family members have lived or worked in them. Dana's mother was born in Grand Canyon National Park and her Grandmother was born in Yosemite National Park. We love to visit the parks and take vacations and can't wait to share these experiences with our children. We want them to experience as much of this world as possible.

Our families are as excited about the adoption process as we are and, once again, can't wait to have a new little one join our family!

From Us to You

First, we would like to thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We don't pretend to know what you are going through or how you are feeling, but can only imagine that this is a very difficult decision for you.

We were both fortunate to have parents that wanted more for their children than they wanted for themselves. They wanted their children to have a better education, better opportunities, and better life experiences than they had. That came at great personal sacrifice. That is unconditional love in the truest sense of the word. We recognize that it is the unconditional love that you have for your child that has brought you to consider adoption. Please know that we do not take this responsibility lightly.

Dale has worked in Air Traffic Control for the FAA for 14 years and Dana has been a Special Agent with the FBI for 15 years. We have worked very hard in our careers which has provided us with a lot of opportunities. But the one thing we have always maintained is that our number one priority in life is our marriage and our relationships with family. We have a wonderful marriage that we nurture and prioritize our dreams for raising our family. We value our careers but our true priorities in life are our relationships with our loved ones. The relationships we have with our family, our friends, and with each other are priceless. Ultimately, our top priority is the relationship we have with our children. Being able to share our love and our life with our beautiful daughter is such a blessing. But the opportunity to enable her to grow up with a sibling, and for us to complete our family, would be the most precious gift of all.

We promise to love and cherish any child we are fortunate enough to have join our family. We have been very blessed in the areas of love, family, friends, health, and quality of life. We were especially blessed with the adoption of our beautiful daughter, Fia. We were also very blessed to have had our precious daughter, Lainie, who passed away shortly after birth. We love each other and our daughters very much. We look so forward to growing our family once more through adoption.

Dana has spent the majority of her life caring for other people's children. She began babysitting at the age of 11 and continued throughout high school. During college and graduate school, Dana was a nanny for two children and later helped to care for a friend's child. We have many nieces and nephews including 5-year-old Natalee. She was unexpectedly born at 26 weeks while her mother (Dana's sister) was visiting. Due to the baby being in the hospital, Dana's sister moved in for several months. This gave us the opportunity to provide support to her and her husband while they went through a very difficult time in their lives. We also got to spend time with Natalee in the hospital, watching her grow and progress. We are very involved in Natalee's life and are her aunt/uncle and godparents. She now has a little brother that our daughter Fia just adores. They are all very close and love to play together.

Children bring us so much joy. We feel we can provide a child with a wonderful life full of love and opportunities. Should we be blessed enough to be chosen, we promise to provide letters, pictures, and emails. We want you to feel comforted knowing your child is loved and cared for in the life you chose for them.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering us.
