Matt & Marisa

Becoming parents through the gift of adoption has been our life's greatest joy and blessing! We believe being a parent is a tremendous privilege and great responsibility and we strive every day to be the very best Mom and Dad we can be. We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to grow our family through adoption and we're grateful and humbled that you have taken the time to get to know us better.

Our Leisure Time

Family Night Cheering On the Royals!

In our free time, our first priority is spending time together as a family. Whether it’s a special dinner out at a new restaurant or an afternoon at the park or simply a lazy weekend afternoon at home we are intentional about enjoying quality time together as often as possible. We also love FOOD! Marisa loves to cook and enjoys the challenge of becoming a better chef with every new recipe.

Since moving into our first home about three years ago, Matt has developed a talent for wood-working and has made some beautiful furniture for our house. Matt has also been a die-hard fan of the Royals and Jayhawks since he was very young. He loves watching every Royals game on T.V. and going to as many games as he can. Some of Matt’s greatest childhood memories are of watching games with his dad—he can’t wait to make those memories with Max and our future children. He’s already taught Max to cheer “GO JAYHAWKS!” during KU games!

We also love traveling and believe it’s important to explore new places and experience different cultures. Combined, we have been to over twenty countries and hope to eventually make it to every continent. Max has already been on one long road trip and eight different flights in his short lifetime. We are so excited to travel with our children and introduce them to new people, new perspectives and help them learn more about our world.

Adoption in Our Lives

So Happy We Get to Live this Life Together

When we received God’s call to grow our family through adoption, we had no idea what to expect but we jumped eagerly at the opportunity to embark on such a special and unique journey. We didn’t realize that adoption can be an emotional rollercoaster as we experienced two failed adoptions before our son came into our family. We didn’t realize that our adoption journey would be filled with such deep love and support poured out on us from our family and friends who have been so excited for us to grow our family. Adoption has brought people into our lives who have become some of our very best friends because they, too, have known the joy of growing their families through adoption. Our children now get to grow up together.

Adoption has taught us that it’s LOVE that truly makes a family as we’ve watched our parents and siblings fall madly and completely in love with a little boy who doesn’t share their DNA but holds every piece of their hearts. Our adoption journey has taught us that all families are equally beautiful regardless of what they look like or how they found one another. Adoption has taught us lessons about life, love and ourselves that we had no idea we needed to learn. Simply put, we are better because of adoption and we’re grateful for this beautiful journey to grow our family.

Our Religious Beliefs

Max's Baptism

Our Catholic faith is the center of lives and is the core of who we are as individuals, as spouses and as parents. Our faith is where our story began and has shaped every aspect of who we are and how we live. Our faith has given us great strength and hope on our adoption journey and through the mountains and valleys we’ve experienced in life. We make it a priority to pray together both as a couple and as a family on a daily basis and we’re active in our church community where we are surrounded by so many beautiful examples of faithful, holy families. We truly LOVE our Catholic faith and we really look forward to passing this faith onto our children. Our greatest mission and responsibility as parents is to introduce our children to Christ’s love and make sure they know how valuable they are and how much God loves and cherishes them.

Our Extended Families

Celebrating Our Niece's Baptism with Matt's Family

One of the greatest joys in our life is our family. We both come from close-knit families and were blessed to grow up in loving, happy homes. Our parents have supported and encouraged us through every chapter of life and without them we wouldn’t be who we are today. Our parents have become the most amazing grandparents and have loved, adored and spoiled our son since the moment we brought him home. We strive to be the kind of parents to our children that our parents were to us.

Matt and his older brother, Andy, have been there for each other through thick and thin. They can make each other laugh for hours telling ridiculous jokes and they both love all things Royals baseball and KU basketball. Andy and his wonderful wife have three amazing children who are the best cousins to Max!

Cooking Class with Marisa's Family

Marisa’s younger sister, Jenna, is truly the best aunt in the world and she’s Marisa’s best friend. Jenna is loving, thoughtful and hilarious and has a special bond with Max. She and her husband are expecting their first child and we cannot wait for Max and our future child to have another cousin to grow up with!

Both of our families live close to us and we get to see them all very often. We’re so excited for the many family memories we will continue to make and we’re grateful for the love and support our children will be surrounded with as they grow up.

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

We live in a very family-oriented community in a large suburb of Kansas City with a ton of things to do for families and children of all ages. We are surrounded by top-ranked school districts, beautiful libraries, unique museums, excellent shopping and delicious restaurants. As Max has gotten older we’ve discovered more outdoor parks than we can count full of kids and families enjoying time together. Our community is extremely safe and the people here are kind and friendly. Our neighborhood is full of young families with lots of children always playing together outside. Working in healthcare, Marisa also loves the fact that one of the highest rated children’s hospitals in the country is right around the corner from our house.

We really love going into downtown Kansas City to try new restaurants, attend various festivals and art fairs and take in the city life--just a thirty minute drive from home! When we were first married we lived downtown in a tiny loft apartment and the city is still one of our favorite places to visit and holds many special memories for us.

The home we live in has three bedrooms, a large back yard and a beautiful finished basement that has been the perfect playroom for Max. Since Max came into our family our house has truly become a home and we have made so many amazing memories as a family of three and look forward to making many more with another son or daughter.

From Us to You

Above all else, we want to thank you for choosing to give your child the gift of life, which we believe is sacred and precious. While we don’t know your story, we know that it’s out of deep, unconditional love for your child that you have chosen adoption. We cannot begin to imagine the whirlwind of emotions you’ve experienced on this journey but we want you to know how much we admire you and how thankful we are for mothers like you who are strong, brave and selfless. We are humbled and honored that you have taken the time to get to know us better!

We are truly best friends and have been married for almost seven years! We LOVE being married and we love being together in both the ordinary and extraordinary moments of life. We strive for passion in life and have been blessed to find careers that we are passionate about. Our careers challenge us, teach us, and allow us to help and encourage people every single day. We are surrounded by loving family and amazing friends who have celebrated with us in life’s most wonderful times and who have supported us during life’s most difficult times. The foundation of all of this is our deep faith in God. Our Catholic faith is the center of our lives, our marriage and our family. We believe the greatest gift a parent can give a child is to show them the love of Christ.

Even before we were married, adoption was on our hearts. When we found out that it was going to be difficult for us to have biological children, it wasn’t even a question - we knew immediately that God was calling us to build our family through adoption. For us, adoption is not a “backup plan” but is truly a calling. We feel lucky that God has called us to build our family in such a beautiful way. When we welcomed our son, Max, into our family our hearts grew larger than we ever thought possible. Being his mom and dad has brought us more joy than we can possibly describe and is truly our greatest honor and privilege in life.

When we picture what life will be like as we grow our family, we dream about the very special bond Max will have with his brother or sister. Our siblings are our best friends and we believe there is great joy and great value in having siblings to walk through life with. Having siblings who are also adopted will be a gift for all of our children and will help them learn that a family is not made through DNA but through love and commitment. The gift of adoption will be celebrated and cherished in our family from the very first moment of your child’s life. Your child will know from the earliest age possible that their adoption story is so special and something to be very proud of. They will ALWAYS know how much you love them and how courageous you were to give them the best life possible.

Our dream as parents and our promise to you is to do everything in our power to make your child’s life happy, healthy and full. We will encourage your child, every day, to discover their own unique talents and passions. We will support them completely as they pursue their dreams. More than anything, we promise to raise children who know and understand how loved they are by you and by us, but who also realize how much MORE they are loved by God. We cannot wait to share letters and pictures with you throughout your child’s life as they meet milestones, make memories and write the chapters of their life. It’s important to us that you are able to share in the joy of seeing them become the person God created them to be!

As you prepare to make this incredibly difficult decision, we will be praying for you and asking God to give you peace as you walk this journey. Please know that you are a blessing and you will always have our greatest admiration and respect.

With Love and Gratitude,

Matt & Marisa
