Murry & Susan
We believe that love is multiplied not divided. Adoption is a beautiful circle of love. We have an abundance of energy and joy to share with a child. We have always dreamed of a big family full of laughter and love. We have two daughters and are eager to further grow our family through adoption. Thank you for considering us for this special next chapter in our lives.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
The beach is our ultimate family destination. The sun and surf draws us back every year. We head to the sunshine state each summer. Devouring crab legs and peeling shrimp are our top seafood entrees at our favorite beach restaurants. We take an annual beach family picture overlooking the water and look forward to adding our new child to this special moment. We spend lazy vacation days swimming in the pool, searching for mermaids and dolphins, building sand castles, collecting seashells, and dipping our toes into the water. We enjoy exploring the area on bike rides and cruising around on the golf cart.
We also love going to Walt Disney World. It truly is the happiest place on earth. We have been there three times and can't wait to go again. Who can say no to chocolate covered Mickey Mouse shaped popsicles that instantly melt in your mouth and to taking flight on the beloved Peter Pan's ride?!? We crave experiencing that pure magic and delight that would come from our new child's eyes on their first trip there.
Our family treasures taking adventures and seeks out being on the go. We aspire to show our new child the world. We want first row seats in all of their firsts. We thrive on road trips. Whether it is driving out west to the Lone Star State, navigating through the majestic Smokey mountains, or winding up the east coast to NYC. We hope to experience all 50 states one day.
Addressing Cultural Diversity
We consider ourselves life long learners. We’re raising our girls to embrace the world through a global perspective through travel, books, and charity missions. What matters most to our family is developing a solid character and possessing a compassionate attitude.
We reside in a progressive and ethnically diverse community outside of a major city. We are surrounded by a myriad of cultures in our neighborhood. We crave learning about their traditions, trying their delicious cuisines, and celebrating holidays with them. Our daughters have close relationships with these friends. This community is excited to support us and serve as mentors as we hope to grow into a vibrant family through adoption. We appreciate that it is important that our new child have a support system that they can directly identify with throughout their development.
We’re passionate about traveling and experiencing other cultures first hand to gain understanding and appreciation of others. Susan grew up in the Southeast, the Northeast, and the Midwest. Susan graduated college with a Sociology degree/Cultural Anthropology emphasis, a minor in Business, and a Masters in Teaching. She studied and worked in England for a year and has traveled throughout Europe. She taught at an International School. Murry graduated college with an International Business degree and a minor in Spanish. He has ventured to Asia, South America, and Europe, using his Spanish skills. Embracing other cultures is captivating and energizing to us.
Our Family Traditions
We pride ourselves on having established family traditions. Our intention is for our children to have experiences to look forward to each year and for these traditions to become a fabric of their character for generations to come. Birthdays are a huge deal to us. The day of one's birth is sacred. Streamers and decorations adorn their bedroom entrance. We throw elaborate birthday parties filled with family, friends, and fun. It's a day to be spoiled and celebrated with all of their favorites! Every Saint Patrick's Day, the leprechauns invade our home with a footprint path of shamrocks and messy shenanigans. They leave behind several charming green and gold surprises. Starting back in preschool days, the girls each wear an apple themed shirt on their first day of school and present their teacher with a small token to kick off the year. Many of our traditions are centered around the Christmas season. Our family Elf on the Shelf, Sugarplum, makes her debut with a North Pole breakfast with white powdered donuts, candy canes, festive little toy surprises, and holiday pajamas. Annually, we also make hot cocoa with marshmallows and decorate a gingerbread bread house. We attend a candlelight Christmas Eve church service each year. Murry reads the girls The Night Before Christmas every Christmas Eve. We're beyond excited to share in these magical family moments with our new child.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a large family-oriented neighborhood in the suburbs of Kentucky. Children live close-by for play dates and family gatherings.
Our three-story, five bedrooms home is our favorite place to be! The kitchen is the heart of our home where all the magic happens. We love to be surrounded by good memories, so there are oodles of photographs up throughout our home. Our sprawling backyard is a fun destination for all to enjoy. We have a beautiful salt-water pool with a fence around it, a brand new wooden play set equipped for a baby swing, a basketball goal, and a spacious deck for entertaining. The girls love to roast s’mores, blow bubbles, draw with sidewalk chalk, fly kites, and catch fireflies in our yard.
Our neighborhood is lined with sidewalks. Our home sits adjacent to two cul-de-sacs perfect for bike riding, cruising on scooters, and roller-skating. We love exploring in our golf cart and fishing in the small lakes in our subdivision. Everyone festively decorates for all of the holidays. There are hundreds of trick or treaters and an annual holiday hayride.
In the community, there are numerous attractions nearby as well as breathtaking horse farmland. The girls attend a National Blue Ribbon public school. At the parks nearby, we go fishing, jog around, enjoy playground time, feed the ducks, and soak in God’s glorious landscape. Our public library has an enriched summer reading program and children’s events. Murry annually takes the girls to a father/daughter dinner and dance.
Our Extended Families
We're blessed to have both sets of grandparents, as well as other extended family live just a few hours away. Our family is actively engaged in our daughter's lives. The girls love to ride the tractor and visit the animals on Susan’s Aunt and Uncle’s working farm. Our family sits front row at dance recitals, school performances, swim meets, musical shows, and art exhibits. They are our biggest fans and are eager to cheer on a new child in our family.
Mimi and Op never arrive without a craft to do with the girls. Mimi sews many special clothes for the girls and hand crafts many holiday decorations for them. Mimsy and Lulu always come with a surprise in their bag for the girls. They love to take them to the movies, Waffle House, and go shopping. Mimsy enjoys baking sweet treats with them. Lulu is a talented builder and has designed a beautiful custom wooden infant bassinet and a backyard seesaw for the girls.
Every 4th of July is spent with Susan's extended family in the mountains. We all travel from across the country to be together the wear our red, white, and blue. We eat yummy BBQ, watch the fireworks, and catch candy in the 4th of July parade! The highlight of the week is a young cousin dance off party and performance for the entire family. It is a week filled with horseback riding, cousin sleepovers, hiking in the mountains, bike riding, games, swimming, face painting, and giggles!
From Us to You
Your consideration of adoption is a brave act of love. We are in awe of your selflessness in this possibility. We humbly thank you for your consideration and time in learning about our family and our devotion to adoption.
If you should choose adoption and select our family to raise your child, we promise to instill within them that they are a chosen gift. Love will always be at the core of their existence. They will be cherished every single day of their life.
One of Susan's fondest childhood memories was being a Girl Scout and having her mother serve as the troop leader. In Girl Scouts there is a song called, "Make New Friends."
Make new friends,
But keep the old.
One is silver,
The other is gold.
A circle is round,
It has no end.
That's how long,
I will be your friend ...
We look at the relationship of a birth mother and an adoptive mother in a similar manner as this song. We'll tell your child that they have two mothers, one is silver is and the other one is gold. You will be their gold, giving them life, bringing them to the light of the world. This precious, selfless act will be a legacy that'll always be honored. We'll be their silver, raising and nurturing them in this world.
We'll share your role in their lives right from the start. We're happy and open to sharing pictures and email updates with you throughout their life. Visits may be something special we can explore together depending on your comfort level as well.
We have been happily married for almost 10 years and have always dreamed of having a big family. Our family doesn't feel complete. The best gift we can provide to our daughters is another sibling. Susan is the youngest of three children. During her childhood, she felt cherished by her older siblings. She appreciated having them as role models to look up to and admired them deeply. Murry is the older of two. He enjoyed having a younger brother to play with and to teach the ways of the world.
As parents, we feel well equipped for this opportunity. Our world is dedicated to raising our family. Our weekends are filled with special moments. We wake up to Murry making us his famous stuffed omelets and delicious buttery pancakes. Our family time is focused on bike rides, park outings, sidewalk chalk designs, dance classes, library visits, birthday parties, family cookouts, and attending church. We love being active and on the go. However, we also relish in lazy, cuddle days at home reading books or watching movies.
Murry's hard work ethic in his career has allowed Susan to stay at home. She's fully committed to raising children. The girls are now both in school all day, so her focus will be on caring for our new child. We're excited to have front row seats with all of our baby's firsts. Their first smile, giggle, rolling over, word, crawl, step, boo boo, and much more. Murry can't wait to walk through the door at the end of the day to hear all of the daily highlights. He is hands on with homework, bath time, and tucking them in at night with stories and goodnight kisses. He is our Hero.
We promise to give your child a life full of unconditional love, joy, adventure, and acceptance. We will be their safe harbor, always by their side, guiding them, cheering for them, and loving them to the moon and back.
