Why We Chose Adoption

We Can't Wait to Become a Family of Four!

We have always wanted a big family. We were very lucky to easily get pregnant after a year of marriage and had our beautiful daughter, Abby. Unfortunately, our next two pregnancies did not have such happy endings. After Abby we had a stillborn son at 30 weeks. Then our third pregnancy ended with an emergency C-section at 32 weeks and our son lived for just 2 days. Our doctors think it is possible we both carry a recessive gene that presents an unacceptable risk of additional losses. We have suffered great loss trying to add to our family but this has all led us to adoption and we couldn't be more excited for this journey! Through adoption we hope that our dreams of that big family become a reality. We know that when we hold that baby in our arms and welcome him or her into our family all our heartache and loss will be worth it.

We know in our hearts that our loving family is not complete, and we feel so blessed that through the gift of adoption we can complete our family.

Our Individual Strengths

Vacation in California

Scott is hard-working, thoughtful, caring, easy-going, and such a good husband and dad! He works hard to provide for his family and has done very well in his career. Not only is he great at his job, he is also a great husband and father. Family always comes first and he makes it a priority to always be home each night so we can have dinner as a family, and he would never miss a preschool musical. Scott is one of those people that everyone gets along with. He has an easy-going go-with-the-flow personality that makes him extremely likeable. When he isn't working you will find him playing dress up, having tea parties, playing at the park, leading a family dance party or playing a game or hide-and-seek.

Katie has a fun-loving, outgoing personality that draws people to her. She lights up the room with her amazing smile and makes the most out of every moment. She is my best friend, an amazing and supportive partner, and a caring and loving mother who will do anything to support our family. While she was born to me a mom, she somehow also finds the time to own and run a successful corporate event planning business, providing a wonderful role model to our daughter. And her event planning doesn't end with her business--whether it is trips to the park, zoo, museums, or activities like playdates, cooking, crafts, dance, or gymnastics, Katie is constantly working to find fun and creative ways for Abby to develop and explore the world.

Fun Facts About Us:

  • You will always find us in matching PJs on Christmas morning.
  • It is a family tradition on Katie's side to take a sibling picture on the steps each Christmas morning. We have continued this tradition each year even now that we are all grown adults and now include our spouses, children and family pets. We take up the entire staircase! It is our hope that one day our children continue this tradition with their siblings!
  • We love sports and sporting events. Scott played baseball in high school and is a loyal Cubs fan. Katie's brother is a professional hockey player so we attend lots of hockey games!
  • Our favorite family vacation spot is Lake Michigan. Katie's family has a house on the lake and she has been going there her whole life. We have spent countless hours on the deck watching the amazing sunsets. We always make a game out of who can guess the exact time the sun will set. We love bringing Abby up to Michigan and can't wait to continue as a family of 4!
  • Scott's family loves to go skiing in Colorado, and Scott has been skiing since he was 5. We can't wait for our children to learn to ski and enjoy family time in the mountains with their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins!
  • We love music and have lots of dance parties with our fun-loving daughter. Some of Abby's current favorites are: Can't Stop the Feeling, Don't Stop Believing, Brown Eyed Girl, Build Me Up Buttercup and anything by Taylor Swift.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a beautiful neighborhood that is full of children. We back up to a forest preserve which has a big field where all the neighborhood kids play tag and soccer in the summer and go sledding and throw snowballs in the winter. We have lots of neighborhood potlucks in the cul-de-sac near our house where the kids ride bikes, color with sidewalk chalk, and catch fireflies on summer nights.

We have lots of parks nearby. Our favorite park has a playground, a small barn with horses, and a walking trail through a wooded area with a lake where we stop to feed the fish. We are 5 minutes from our neighborhood pool which is always packed with young families! It has a great swim team, two water slides, and it's where you will find us on Sunday nights grilling and swimming with friends!

We bought our house with the intent to fill it with children. We have 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a finished basement, upstairs loft area, and a beautiful gender-neutral nursery that is just waiting for pops of pink or blue. Abby has a playroom full of toys that she is excited to share with a baby brother or sister!

Our Extended Families

Family Tradition - Annual Sibling Photo on the Stairs

Family is everything to us! Both of our parents have been married for 35+ years so we have great examples of what a successful marriage looks like. Katie has an older sister and two younger brothers, and they aren't just siblings but her best friends. Scott has a younger brother and they too are extremely close. Scott's brother has two kids, Katie's sister has one child, and Katie's brother has one on the way. We are so excited that our children will have lots of cousins to grow up with!

Big Family!

We live for family traditions, reunions, holiday gatherings, and all the delicious food that comes with them. Scott's grandma was an awesome cook and her most famous dish is a homemade chocolate cake served with a side of homemade sherbet. It wouldn't be a family get together on Scott's side without sourdough pancakes in the morning, college football, and endless laughter!

Katie's extend family is close to 100 family members and they gather for a big reunion every 5 years at their lake house in Michigan. The family is divided into 3 teams and each day compete in beach Olympics, team skits, scavenger hunts, and kickball tournaments. Each day ends with a beach fire, s'mores, and the most beautiful sunset over lake Michigan. Katie's family motto is, "It's better together," and it really is!

We can't wait to bring another child into our amazing family where there is an abundance of love, laughter, and fun!

From Us to You

We want to begin by saying thank you. Thank you for being so brave and so strong. Thank you for the opportunity to make our dreams come true. Thank you for loving this baby so much that you are considering this amazing decision. We know this isn't an easy decision, but one made out of love.

We know this probably wasn't your life plan - it wasn't ours either, but we strongly believe, with all our heart, that we were brought together for a reason, and we look forward to growing our relationship with you in an open adoption! We can't wait to share with you pictures and letters of your child and all that he or she will accomplish and all the smiles and laughter that they will experience growing up in our family. You will always be viewed positively in your child's life, and you will forever be a part of our family.

Your child will have an instant best friend and caring big sister. Your child will have a fun, hands-on dad whose love for princesses and tea parties is real because it makes his daughter smile. Your child will grow up with a silly mom whose goal is to make each day fun and to hear her children laugh.

Our names are Katie and Scott, and we have been married for five years and together for eight. We met while we both lived in Chicago, and it was one of those situations where we knew instantly that we had a connection. After a year of marriage, we got pregnant with our daughter, Abby. We had an easy pregnancy and a healthy baby girl. After Abby we suffered the loss of two children, one was stillborn at 30 weeks and one who lived just two days. We still do not know why this happened to us, but it was an easy choice after all that loss to choose adoption to grow our family. We feel it in our hearts that our family isn't complete, and that adoption is our answer.

We have a strong marriage and have been through a lot together. We have had our challenges with the loss of two children but have grown closer together because of it. It is a top priority to show our children what a happy, healthy marriage looks like, and we always want our children to know how much love we have for each other and for them. Scott is hard working, kind, and has a huge heart. Katie is caring, funny, and loves to be around people. We balance each other out and work well together. We have so much love to give and promise to make it our life's priority to love your child with everything we have in our hearts. We will do everything we can so that your child grows up with every opportunity to succeed in life and will always be his or her number one supporter.

We want the best life for our children filled with adventure, education, laughter, and fun. We want you to know that you will never be forgotten, and we will always celebrate you and the courageous decision you made. We will look forward to our calls, emails, and visits, and we will always speak highly of you and your brave choice. We know this is a hard decision, and we want to thank you for getting to know us better!
