Brian & Heather
Thank you for taking time to view our profile. Hopefully throughout this profile you can tell that we will give a child a happy home full of unconditional love. We will nurture and support that child in any way that we can for the rest of our lives. We look forward to becoming parents and the day we can take family vacations, attend school functions, and just be a mom and dad.
Why We Chose Adoption
We met over six years ago and have developed a stable, loving relationship as a couple. We have both always had the dream of having children. Unfortunately, Heather's health would be at risk if she were to become pregnant. As a result, we have developed our relationship on the fact that adoption is the path we would take to build our family. So, unlike many couples who come into the process as a last resort after struggling with infertility or other issues, we are coming into the adoption process with adoption being our first choice. As a kind-hearted, loving couple with a strong family structure, we would love to raise a child to be a respected, upstanding adult that can someday be able to offer the same loving environment for children of their own.
Our Leisure Time
Our shared leisure time activities include cooking, bicycling, and hiking. We like to cook interesting and elaborate recipes on weekends when we have plenty of time to go to the grocery store and prepare a multi-step meal. We look forward to sharing this activity with a child and teaching them to cook and explore various flavor combinations and ingredients. When the weather is not as nice, we enjoy playing various board games and are looking forward to adding kids' games such as Candy Land and Monopoly Jr. to the rotation.
Brian also enjoys home improvement, mountain biking, and skiing. Since we recently purchased a house built in the 1950's, Brian has spent a lot of time improving the home's non-existent landscaping, and doing some home renovations. When Brian was in his mid-20's he bought an older house from the original owner and renovated the entire home on his own (with some help from his parents). Heather has also done numerous home improvement projects, and before meeting Brian, she renovated the entire condo she lived in (with a lot of help from her parents). Heather also loves scuba diving, reading, and doing arts and crafts projects. She just finished a scrapbook of a recent trip we took to Spain, and has started to work on some artwork to hang in our child's room!
Our Pup, Isabel
We both have fond memories of growing up with dogs, and in Heather's case, rabbits as well. Some of our best memories include our pets: playing soccer in the yard, sledding in the winter, building pillow and blanket forts, and dressing up in costumes for Halloween. It also gave us responsibilities early on, such as helping to clean up the yard and make sure the water bowl was always full. It's hard to think of a childhood memory that didn't involve our pets. Heather's childhood journals were even addressed to her pets!
We now have a dog named Isabel, which we adopted from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. She loves to snuggle and play frisbee, and she would love to sleep nearby to keep watch over a baby. All of the pets we have had over the years have had their own personalities and provided years of joy. Aside from building great memories, pets provide unconditional love which we look forward to sharing with a child.
Our House and Neighborhood
We bought a house last summer to give us plenty of room to start a family. It is a brick ranch house, on a half-acre of land in a community that the neighbors call "The Forest" since the neighborhood is surrounded on three sides by wooded areas. We often see wildlife nearby including deer, rabbits, and lots of birds! We live in the suburbs of a city so there are always plenty of things to do nearby, but it is nice to come home to a peaceful and friendly community. There are neighborhood events throughout the year, such as picnics and breakfast with Santa. We live within a 5 minute walk of three different playgrounds and the elementary school. We enjoy walking around the neighborhood with our dog and we look forward to adding a stroller to our daily walks! Due to Heather's volunteer activities, we also have access to a private pool which is great to use during the summer.
We have three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a fireplace to keep our home nice and cozy on cold winter nights. We love doing home renovations, and are in the process of finishing the basement to add a fourth bedroom and a large play area. During the warmer months we enjoy relaxing in our backyard and cooking meals on the grill. Brian also spends a lot of time making sure the yard is just right to run around and play on.
Our Extended Families
Brian's family is very supportive of each other and involved in each other's lives--from big events like birthdays to small events like helping pick a new color for couch cushions. Brian has three nieces and three nephews from his older brother and sister, ranging in age from 1 to 8 years old. In addition, Brian is the godfather of three of those nieces and nephews. We get together multiple times per year, including a week at the beach in the summer, with everyone. During time with the family, both Brian and Heather spend a majority of their time with the children. Recently, the most requested games have been freeze tag, Uno, and hide and seek.
Heather's family, which includes her parents and younger brother, is also very close. They got scuba certified together, when Heather was 14, and have taken numerous trips together to dive and snorkel. As a result, the ocean has always been very important to our family, and we look forward to digging in the sand and jumping in the waves with a child, and one day maybe even scuba diving!
Both sides of our family also love doing home renovations which has been a great way to spend time together while learning new skills. We could start a family home improvement company with all of our combined abilities!
From Us to You
We know you are facing a difficult decision by considering adoption. We want you to know that if you choose us to be the adoptive parents of your baby, we are ready and excited to become parents and share our lives and unconditional love with a child.
We are both in our mid-30's, and we have known since early in our relationship that adoption was the path we would take since we cannot have our own children. Through online dating, we met over six years ago, and adoption is something we have discussed since very early on in our relationship. For our first date we went to a tiny beach-themed restaurant and talked for hours (until we realized they were about to close and we were the last ones there!) about our jobs, our families, our hobbies, and our plans for the future. It was the first date we had both been on in years that made us excited for a second date. As we continued to date, we discovered shared common values, outlooks, goals, and a Christian faith.
We got married in September 2016. The ceremony was held in a church by the ocean, and the reception was held at an aquarium. We both love spending time at the beach, and we have a collection of sand from all the beaches we have been to, so the aquarium was the perfect location for us. We look forward to adding to this collection as a family.
Both of us come from very loving families who have provided us with great parenting examples in homes where we always felt safe and comfortable, and we look forward to providing the same thing to a child. Brian has 6 nieces and nephews from his brother and sister who we love spending time with. This will be the first child on Heather's side of the family, and her parents are extremely excited to become grandparents. Both of our families are also very handy, so we love doing renovations and repairs together. Between all of us, we have done every type of project you can think of, and we look forward to sharing these skills with a child.
We're both fortunate with flexible jobs that offer a lot of time off for holidays and vacations, which allows us to spend a lot of time with each other and our family and friends. It will also afford us flexibility while raising a child who will be the center of our lives. We are also fortunate that we have a network of family and friends who have been incredibly supportive of our plan to adopt, and they are all very excited to babysit a child! We hope to raise a child to be a kind and respectful person, always willing to help others, especially those less fortunate. We want to help a child live up to their fullest potential with the gifts God has given them to have a happy and fulfilling life.
If you choose us, we will forever remind your child of how loved they are by all of us, including you. In the years to come, we plan on sharing pictures and letters so you can witness your child's progress and see for yourself how your child is loved and cared for. We also hope that you may have some peace of mind knowing that our commitment is to love unconditionally, to nurture, support and provide every opportunity possible for a child to thrive and grow.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our family.
