Andy & Jessica
We are so excited by the opportunity to create our family through adoption. Being parents and having a family is something we have been dreaming of for a long time. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us. We know that the decision you are considering is a brave and selfless one, and we thank you for considering us.
What It Means to Become Parents
Being parents means everything to us. Having a big, happy, loving family is something we've been dreaming about for years. It's easy to think about all the moments we'll experience in the beginning. Watching the child experience so many firsts – first steps, first words, first holidays. Thinking about those moments is so exciting, but we are also looking forward to so many wonderful moments down the road as well. Family vacations to new and different places, cheering for them on the sidelines at sports events, and watching them learn and grow academically.
Any child that we bring home will have grandparents, aunts, uncles, and 14 first cousins all waiting to be a part of their life. We smile when we think about all the kids playing together and how much fun it will be to see how they all care for their newest cousin, and the friendships they'll develop as they grow up together.
So while we anxiously await the moment we get to hold a baby in our arms, we are also focused on everything that comes in the future as we get the honor of raising a kind and loving child into an intelligent and caring adult.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Jessica About Andy: Marrying Andy was the best decision I ever made (not that it was a hard one to make!). Not only do I know that being married to him means I will very often be wiping away tears of laughter, but I will also always feel loved and supported. Andy has this amazing ability to be this very professional and driven man, while then immediately turning around and becoming the big kid he is inside. It's one of my favorite things about him.
I also admire the love and support he has for friends and family. Last year my brother was diagnosed with cancer. Every other week for 6 months he was in the hospital for several hours at a time while he received treatment. Andy was right there by his side every single time, keeping him company and helping keep his mind off of why he was there. Andy never missed a treatment. I know it meant so much to my brother, but it also meant the world to me to see Andy love and support my brother during the hardest year of his life.
Andy About Jessica: Jessica is kind, intelligent, giving, creative, and funny (among a long list of other things). She has always been there for me, and I love spending time with her, no matter what we are doing. She always puts others before herself, and I admire how passionate she is about her work and hobbies. She is just a very special person and I can't wait for the day when we have a child for her to share all of these amazing qualities with.
Our Pup, Ruby
We are dog people! We brought home a new puppy, a golden retriever/poodle mix named Ruby, last year. She is such a sweet girl and has already brought a lot of love and laughter to our home. Most everyone in our family has a dog, so we get them together often to play at the park or the beach, and anytime the family gets together all the dogs are there too. No pup gets left behind!
Prior to bringing home Ruby, we had another dog that we sadly said goodbye to last year. Jessica had done a lot of training with her so that she could become a certified therapy dog. With that certification she joined an organization that made frequent visits to hospitals, schools, and nursing homes. Jessica and our dog most often made visits to our local VA hospital. It was their favorite spot to make the rounds visiting patients and their families. As our new dog gets older Jessica plans to go through the same training with her so they can return to making their regular visits to spread some love to those who need it.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a beautiful beach community in Southern California just 3 blocks from the ocean. Our home is a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom townhome that we purchased 5 years ago. Walking distance from our home are an elementary school and middle school, so there are a lot of families in our neighborhood with kids of all ages. It's a very family friendly place to live. There are community activities throughout the year such as the 4th of July Parade and Christmas Parade where families and local organizations create their own floats. One street over from us is also the trick-or-treating street for all the kids in the area every Halloween.
There is a park in our neighborhood which we go to every afternoon to take a walk and let our dog run and play. It's a beautiful park with ocean and downtown views. Like us, there are a lot of regulars there that we've come to know. Jessica's parents also often show up with their dog since they live in the neighborhood as well.
In addition to the park and having the beach just steps away, our city also has countless activities and attractions. We have a world renowned zoo, safari animal park, as well as beautiful parks and children's museums. Disneyland and Legoland are also just a short drive away.
Our Extended Families
We both come from large close-knit families. Andy's side of the family is especially large. He has four older siblings all of whom have children. In total there are 13 nieces and nephews ranging in age from 1 to 15 years old. Andy's nickname in the family is "Uncle Awesome" and he has definitely earned it. He is always the first one to join in any game the kids are playing, dress up to go trick or treating, or start a cannonball contest in the pool. We absolutely love getting to watch each of the kids grow and to be a part of their lives.
Jessica's side of the family all live very close by and get together often. She has an older brother and younger sister who live 10 minutes away with their spouses, and her parents live in our neighborhood. We have weekly Friday night dinners at her parents' house, often with cousins and friends joining us. Jessica's sister and her husband just welcomed their first child last year. It's been a blessing living just minutes away and being able to witness all of our newest nephews milestones as he grows. We love seeing his face light up with a smile every time we walk in their front door. We can't get enough of him!
Everyone is so excited for us and supportive of us as we pursue adoption. They are all waiting with open arms to welcome a child into the family.
From Us to You
We can only begin to imagine what you must be feeling as you sit here reading our profile. We can guess that you might be filled with some of the same emotions we are feeling - nervous about the uncertainty of it all, and anxious for what the future holds. We know that the decision you are considering for your child is made purely from love and selflessness. And while we may not know you yet, it says so much about your strength of character and the love you have for your child. If you were to choose us to raise your child you would be blessing us with the greatest gift we could ever imagine, the opportunity to become a family.
Family is something we connected on immediately when we met six years ago. We both come from large close-knit families and have always wanted the same for ourselves. Both of our parents are approaching their 50th wedding anniversaries and we feel so lucky to have such great examples of marriage and parenthood to model ourselves after. We have been trying to start our family since we were married three years ago, and while the journey has been longer and harder than we ever imagined, it has only strengthened our desire for the family we have dreamed of having for so long. We know that that struggle will only make all the experiences that come along with parenthood that much sweeter when it does happen for us.
Our lives are filled with laughter, adventure, and family. Where we live allows us to be outdoors and active all year long and we love to take advantage of that. We enjoy hiking, long walks, or playing at the beach with our dog. Much of our social time is spent with family. Jessica's family gets together almost every Friday night for dinner, and often sees each other during the week as well. We see Andy's family several times throughout the year, whether it's a big family vacation, or we are visiting each other's hometowns. They are all just as excited for us to become parents as we are!
Education is very important to us and we will ensure that your child goes to the best schools and has the opportunity to attend any college they choose. We were both lucky enough to have had the same opportunity given to us by our parents, and we value the fact that we were able to explore the education and career paths we wanted, with full financial support, and encouragement.
We also believe that having a worldly and cultural education is equally important. Traveling to different parts of the world, experiencing new cultures, and stepping outside of your everyday life are so important in developing compassion, respect, and understanding for people and places that are different from your own. We have both traveled a lot with our families growing up, and together as a couple. Experiencing new places together is something we cherish and look forward to sharing as a family in the future. When we travel we love to learn about the local history, explore the outdoors, and even try foods we may not usually eat.
We are both open and honest people and plan to always be open with your child about where they came from, their family history, and how much they are loved not just by us, but by you and your family as well. Not only do we want them to know where they came from, we what you to know how far they've gone. We hope to share photos, emails, and phone calls to keep you updated on how they have grown and the activities they are involved in, if that is something you desire.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us. We hope that whatever decision you make you find peace and comfort in it. It's a brave and selfless thing you are considering, and we admire you for that. Know that if you were to choose us to raise your child they would be met with overwhelming and unconditional love not just from us, but from everyone in our lives.
