Brian & Hilarey
We believe that nothing is more valuable in life than the gift of family. We've waited a long time to be parents and share our love with a child. Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile, we appreciate your consideration.
What It Means to Become Parents
We’ve created a strong foundation as a couple over the last 10 years together, and adoption has always been our plan for starting a family. We have so much love to give and feel the ultimate gift is becoming a parent. We look forward to instilling our shared values of love, respect, creativity, honesty and curiosity in our child. We believe in a good education, traveling often, creating traditions and having a lot of fun! We live in a very diverse city and are surrounded by people of all races, religions and cultures, which is what we love about our home. We are eager to give our child new experiences where they can grow up learning and being involved with all cultures and heritages. We so look forward to introducing our child to holiday celebrations like trick-or-treating, making costumes and handing out candy to neighbors, cooking Thanksgiving dinner all day and then enjoying it with our family and decorating sugar cookies to bring to our cousins house for Christmas Eve. We can’t wait to travel as a family, spending hot summers at the beach playing in the water and sand or visiting new cities exploring and learning about the food and culture. We both grew up with and had so many fun times with cousins our age, now they have young children, so we look forward to having our own child grow up with them in a fun and loving environment.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
We are small business owners and work together every day. We are fortunate to have a deep level of trust and respect with one another that has honestly only grown and improved with time. It’s nice to always have a partner by your side as a sounding board when things get stressful and tough.
Hilarey feels so lucky to have found Brian as her husband and partner and admires his patience and problem solving skills. He will always strive to find the best solution to any type of problem, no matter how long it takes. She appreciates his constant support and love even when she doubts herself. He's always there to pick her up with a kind word or a strong hug. Brian is an extremely positive person, has a loving heart and is a great leader and teacher. She loves his perseverance, creativity and strong work ethic, both at home and at work.
Brian is so proud to call Hilarey his wife and admires her kindness for everyone, no matter their situation. She will always step up lend a helping hand or do whatever she can to make things easier or better for those around her. He also admires her organization, ability to get things done and follow through on anything she puts her mind to doing. Brian respects her individuality and independence as well as her strong loyalty to friends and family.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
We have visited Rehoboth Beach in Delaware for the last five summers and have really began looking forward to returning when the weather turns warm. We love that you an get there in just a few hours by car, and we can bring our dogs. Usually we rent a house by the water where once you arrive, can just drop the car off in the driveway and walk the rest of the time. The beach is always so beautiful, and we normally grab an umbrella and chairs and spend the days reading and relaxing under the sun. Often times our family and friends join us. It's so much fun spend time with our nieces and nephews, finding new fishing spot, swimming in the ocean and parasailing. Rehoboth is very family friendly with great restaurants, an arcade, carnival rides and tons of bike rental shops. We never look for things to do, but we always agree the time flies by too fast. We often talk about how someday we will bring our own child to the beach and how much we look forward to creating new memories with them.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a safe, residential neighborhood where we've resided together for 10 years. D.C. is a melting pot of different cultures, races, ethnicities and backgrounds, which is what drew us to and has kept us living in the city for over 20 years. Our neighbors are a mix of new young families with children and families that have lived here for decades passing their houses off to future generations. Everyone is generous and kind to one another, no matter the differences, inside and out.
A few blocks away is a gorgeous 250-acre campus which is a veteran's retirement home. Here they hold community events every season, from Spring Flings, to 4th of July festivities to Fall Balls, with music, food, games and crafts, just for the neighbors and their families. It has lakes, fields, picnic tables and playgrounds as well as a public elementary school, where we hope to send our child for school one day.
Our Extended Families
We are lucky to have Brian's entire family (sister, brother, nieces nephews and parents) just a few hours away by car and spend time with them a lot for milestones, holidays and vacations. Brian's sister always has a family get together on Christmas Eve so we drive up early and stay at their house with our two dogs. Normally after cooking and socializing (and after the nieces and nephews go to bed), the adults stay up late trying to figure out how to assemble the toys to go under the tree before Christmas morning.
Hilarey's family lives in the Midwest, and west coast, but see each other several times per year. Her dad is retired and loves to visit D.C. as much as he can. Their favorite family tradition is cooking Thanksgiving dinner together, everyone has a special dish that they are in charge of making for the group, and each person has a role somehow in making the day come together. We couldn't be more excited to introduce our child to our family traditions.
From Us to You
We admire your selflessness in an extremely emotional and complicated time and thank you taking the time to read this and consider us. We are a loving couple from Washington, D.C. who have been together for just over 10 years and married in 2012. We had a small wedding in Hilarey's home town in Iowa surrounded by the people we love most.
We both moved to D.C. over 20 years ago and this community has truly become our forever home. D.C. is truly the best place for children to learn and soak in cultural diversity. From history and art museums to festivals downtown to holiday parades and cuisine from around the globe, we never have trouble finding new and exciting things to do.
We are best friends and work together so we have an incredibly flexible schedule for taking care and raising a baby ourselves. Both of us have a strong work ethic, are giving to others and have developed shared values and goals. We strive every day to make things the best we can for our employees and customers. We have a warm home with more than enough room for a child, in a very safe and friendly neighborhood across the street from a school, community space and playground. We have two French Bulldogs, Egg Roll and Napoleon, who we love very much and add so much happiness and joy to our lives.
We are active, love to play sports, walk the dogs together, eat healthy and are committed to raising our child to be the best they can be, inside and out. We love to travel and experience new things, and can't wait to plan family vacations with our child. We are creative and art and music play a large part in our lives. We hope to instill Brian's love of reading and storytelling and Hilarey's talents in music, drawing and crafts into our child's life as well.
We have a strong network of friends nearby and love spending time with them and their families. We have one side of the family just a few hours drive from us and the other side is retired and loves to visit, so we never go very long without catching up. We also have cousins our age with young children that we see often on weekends. Holidays and family traditions mean a lot to us and we look forward to spending holiday time with loved ones. We believe in a strong family bond, which is what drew us to having an open adoption. We know there will be many questions and we’re open to an honest dialogue. We are committed to sending letters and photos to assure you are comfortable and the relationship stays strong, if that is what you choose.
We hope we have been able, through our profile and video, to paint a picture of what life may be like with us as parents. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity.
