Cultural Diversity

Enjoying a Beautiful Afternoon Together

When we first started discussing adoption as a way to grow our family, we both knew our hearts were open to a child of any race or ethnic background. We feel it is our responsibility as parents to educate ourselves on our child's cultural background, and to be advocates for our child throughout his/her life. We want to raise our child in an environment where they are proud of their ethnic background and where we provide our child with numerous opportunities to learn and engage in their culture. We are fortunate to be a part of a support group at church for adoptive families where there are numerous transracial families. We have been able to discuss challenges their families have experienced as well as learn how they are teaching their children about their culture. Living in a diverse city, our child will be surrounded by many different races and cultures. It is important to us that our child has role models throughout their life that share the same ethnic background as them and we will do our part to make this possible. We are blessed to be surrounded by friends and family who will love our child and will celebrate our child's culture as well. We look forward to embracing cultural diversity in our family and raising our child in a home full of love and support.

Our Leisure Time

Made it to the Waterfall

We love spending time outdoors and exploring new places! We enjoy walking our dog Darcy on the numerous local greenways and trails. We also spend time with Darcy going on hikes in the mountains! We always enjoy the beautiful views from the top of a mountain or the refreshing breeze from the waterfalls.

During football season, you will find us cheering on our local team, the Tennessee Volunteers! We can't wait to take a child to the games and have a new little Vols fan in our family!

On the weekends we are often hanging out with our friends and family. Whether we are sitting outside watching the children and dogs play, or walking downtown to our favorite local restaurant, we always enjoy our time together!

During the summer and fall, we love to travel and discover new towns and restaurants! We are looking forward to sharing our sense of adventure with a child and to travel around the country as a family making lasting memories together!

Our Family Traditions

Baking Cookies at Thanksgiving With Cousins

We are both fortunate to live so close to the majority of our family. Living in the same city allows us to see our family on a weekly basis. We love gathering at Katie's mom's house for family dinners and cookouts! We also enjoy going to Hunter's Dad's house where we often cookout and play board games. One tradition we have started is a biweekly family dinner with our friends Joey and Amber and their son Hank. Amber and Katie enjoy trying out new recipes and cooking together in the kitchen while Joey, Hunter, and Hank play outside in the yard. We are so excited to add a little one to our family and to provide a playmate for Hank! We have several family traditions during the holidays that we look forward to every year! At Thanksgiving, we travel to the mountains of North Carolina to stay at Katie's great-grandmother's house with her entire extended family. Every year we eat our Thanksgiving lunch, play games, make cookies, play outside, and cut down our Christmas tree together! At Christmas, we look forward to decorating our house and the tree! We love spending time with both of our families at the holidays watching Christmas movies, opening gifts, and having Christmas dinners. We are so excited to add a child into our family and share our many family traditions with them!

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Living in beautiful East Tennessee, we enjoy all four seasons throughout the year! We live 30 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood, and several beautiful lakes. We spend much of our free time with our dog Darcy, going on hikes and watching him swim and play at nearby dog parks. We love visiting the numerous playgrounds and splash pads with our friends and their children. We are fortunate to live in a diverse city where numerous festivals are held throughout the year. These festivals showcase various cultures through food, language, dance, and song.

We live in a 4-bedroom, 2-bath house in a family-friendly neighborhood. You can often hear the sounds of children laughing as they ride their bikes and scooters around the neighborhood. We have a large fenced-in backyard where Darcy loves to play fetch and show off his frisbee skills. During the warmer seasons, we often grill out with friends and enjoy sitting on our back patio. After work, we spend quality time together cooking dinner and relaxing with Darcy in the living room as we catch up on our favorite TV shows. Our church is a wonderful community of diverse, young families. We have been blessed to be part of a church that has a heart for adoption and provides opportunities for adoptive families to come together for a time of fellowship. We cannot wait to introduce a child to this close-knit community.

Our Extended Families

Thanksgiving at Granny's

We are very lucky to have so many family members living in our same town! We are within driving distance to both sets of parents, who are all eager to become first-time grandparents! We have monthly cookouts with Hunter's family where we play games and enjoy being outdoors. You can find us most Sundays at Katie's grandmother's house enjoying a home-cooked meal and catching up with family. Hunter has a younger brother and Katie has an older brother and a younger brother. Katie's oldest brother lives in town with his wife who is of Thai descent. He is a local, organic farmer and we love having access to fresh vegetables and eggs year round! Katie's youngest brother currently lives in Jackson, Mississippi with his wife while he completes his residency. Living close by allows us to enjoy mid-week dinners at Katie's mom's house and spur of the moment activities around town with our families. Our families can't wait to welcome a child into their hearts and lives.

Christmas With Family

From Us to You

We are so excited to start our family through adoption. We look forward to sharing all of the joy, laughter, and adventure in our lives with a child. Your selflessness and courage is something we admire and will never take for granted. We understand that our desire to become parents would not be possible without the immense amount of love you have for your child. We are incredibly humbled and grateful at the opportunity to become parents, and we thank you for considering us as potential adoptive parents to your child.

Our names are Hunter and Katie and we have been married for five years. After being set up on a blind date by a mutual friend, we dated for two and a half years before we got engaged. During our seven years together, we have experienced both the joys and heartaches that life can often bring. These experiences have allowed us to grow as couple as well as develop a newfound appreciation in the simple joys of life. Our desire to start a family was temporarily put on hold when Katie got sick and needed a year of treatments. Once she received a clean bill of health, we started discussing our options for starting a family. It was clear to both of us that adoption was the best fit for our family, and we anxiously began our journey that led us here today.

We are a fun-loving couple who enjoys spending time outdoors with our dog, Darcy. We love exploring new greenways and trails around our community and taking Darcy swimming in the local lakes! Most evenings we unwind after work by cooking dinner together and cuddling on the couch with Darcy while watching our favorite TV shows. We are very fortunate to live in the same town as the majority of our family and friends! On the weekends, we often spend our time with them having cooking outs, walking around downtown, or playing at the park with their kids. Both of our families are excited about the new adventures adding a child to our family will bring. We cannot wait to create new memories with a child and show them a life full of unconditional love, laughter, and adventure.

We are more than ready to take the next step in our adoption journey and meet our birth mother and her child. We have been praying that you will find peace and comfort in your decision, and we are so thankful you have taken the time to consider us as adoptive parents. It is important to us that your child knows you and your family, and it is our hope and desire to have an open line of communication to share the many milestones in your child's life. Whether it is through emails, phone calls, texts, or visits, we want your child to know he/she is surrounded by love and support. We admire your courage and strength as you continue your adoption plan for your child. We want you to know that we will do everything we can to honor you and the love you have for your child. We promise to raise your child in a home full of love, laughter, and acceptance. Thank you again for considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We look forward to hearing from you.
